    Re: 992 GT3

    Mark,

Size wise and tossibility - vs .2? Does it feel light??  Thanks

    Re: 992 GT3

Hi Watt. Size wise and tossibility it feels much the same as my 991.2 GT3.

Its obviously fractionally wider at the front but that doesnt translate to size on the road as the rear was always wider then the front before. If truth be told the 911 has been too big IMO since 997 and for our roads down here the GT4 is a much more manageable package as you well know first hand.

I wasnt particularly excited by the car from an asthetics POV when I saw the videos and pictures online, but I have to say that in the flesh it has WAY more presence and cohesion that the 2D images suggest and it looks very musculer and aggressive - and in white with black wheels the human eye can pick up all the shadows, curves and details that are missed by the camera. Now, when putting a 991 next to it the 991 looks rather long and skinny. I actually prefer the look of the 992 mostly and I never thought Id say that. Even teh rear looks better resolved in the real. It looks more compact and purposeful although I still think there is a bit too much business but Im sure the 992.2 will address those issues as always. IMO having the balck plastic on teh front bumper is just perfect as this is where I pick up all the stones marks from the track in any case so its one less thing I need to have repainted - just put some back to black on it from time to time and take off the reading glasses and hey presto its new again LOL!

    Re: 992 GT3

The only real chance Ive had to feel the cars dynamics and weight anywhere approaching a limit is on the track and I would say it feels of similar mass to the 991.2 dynamically. I would say its probably less rotatable on the limit (not that Ive gone their just yet) but that is due to the increased grip of the wider tyres/bigger tyre patch and the improved front end bite/reduced understeer on corner entry.

One thing that is apparent on road and track is how much better the shocks are at dealing with compression and rebound. I believe these are the sachs units like teh ones that do such a great job in the Alfa Guilia but obviously a later generation and re-valved for the task at hand. There resolution is much greater (i.e. they respond quicker) and they are capable of much greater variety of range. For example in normal mode they are handling the cars improved stiffness, wider tyres and much stiffer very well and its as really comfortable as the prior gen car IMO. That means that on the track settings you can make full use of all of those things that work against a comfortable road handling but with few of the compromises on the road compared to the last gen...

I believe this is where Porsche nailed the performance with the 992 GT3 and why it is equal or slightly better dynamically than the 991.2 GT3RS. Sure the new front suspension helps but the wider tyre patch and the firmer springs with the new dampers and stiffer chassis have made up the majority of the gap here as they did between 991.2 GT3 and RS before. Aero would be the next biggest benefit as it is noticeable when entering faster corners and noticeably better than the 991.2 GT3 in certain circumstances.

For the 992 GT3RS a larger tyre patch, further stiffening and tuning of the damper and springs and improved aero with active elements will alone bring another 5-6s to the table in Ring lap times. Any power enhancements or trickery we yet know will no doubt increase the delta between the RS and the base GT3 further. If the 992 GT3RS can knock out a circa 6.47 Ring lap its starting to become a seriously quick machine. I cant recall what a 991.1 GT3 Cup car could do at the ring but I suspect that its around mid 6 thirtys with a skilled driver, slicks and a Ring geometry set up. 10s is a very small gab for a car that you can drive home from the track with the stereo playing, air conditioning and your girlfriend in the passenger seat LOL

    Re: 992 GT3

Mine is January quota with PTS color.

    Re: 992 GT3

Finally got back from Scotland and picked up the GT3 today.  Only a short 70 mile drive home from the dealership on backroads, but found some things interesting based on what I've heard from reviewers.  First off the ride is great, I don't understand people talking about how busy it is.  It was more composed over our very bumpy back roads than my old 991.1 RS.  This was in sport mode not track mode, so can't comment on that yet.

Steering definitely seems lighter than what I recall on my old 991.1 GT3 and certainly more so than the .1 RS.  Once broken in will hopefully get it out for one track day before the close of the season to really understand how it feels closer to the limit as I was just at a relaxed cruise.

The Shark Blue gets a lot of attention (for better or worse).  I had numerous thumbs up and one guy in a hellcat charger actually say "Holy f**k" loud enough I heard him.  I love the color but the attention I'm not so sure about, but hey you only live once why worry about what other's think.  And so far it's only been positive attention.  Obviously I now need to detail and coat it, not yet decided on PPF or not.  I'm hoping to get an RS, but who knows if that'll come through.  When I was at the dealer they mentioned they had more than one person offer 100K over for it.  It's a great car but it's not a 300K car, people are insane.  And don't worry the amber side markers will be gone as soon as the clear ones come in.

    Enjoy.

    Re: 992 GT3

Top car! I love the choice of silver wheels. They show the attractive spoke design.

Regarding the ride, it is true that in all the UK publications that I've read  there were negative comments about harshness on B roads to the extent that testers had to reduce speed sometimes as the car was becoming difficult to drive.

Yours and other owners' comments differ from the tests. Probably the Press cars were pre-production specimens and Porsche changed something on the customer cars.

Silver wheels were a good choice. It looks great.

    Re: 992 GT3

    Congratulations Lexs4–fabulous car!

I also like the combination of Shark Blue with silver wheels. I’m considering a new GTS in Shark Blue but the only silver wheels on the GTS configurator are the Carrera S wheels. I’m thinking about a CXX order to have the black turbo S wheels partially polished as they are offered on the regular Turbo S. Anyone have any experience with CXX orders? Or any other advice to get silver wheels?

Sorry to post a GTS question here,  but I didn’t see a GTS thread on the forum.

    Re: 992 GT3

Stunning car!!! Enjoy it in good health! I love the Shark blue especially with silver wheels!  Alas I went for silver because of the attention you mentioned even though most of it will be good attention I'm sure:)

    Re: 992 GT3

Thanks everyone for the kind words, had to take the car to my buddy's shop this weekend so some local folks could come check it out.  Unfortunately found a screw in the passenger side front tire while there Smiley, but fortunately just a small M3 screw that didn't actually go through the tread.  Still breaking it in (car reminds you how many miles you have of break-in left every time you start it) but loving the car so far.  Took it on some of my favorite back roads and really is a joy to drive.

True. But it can harm the space and pull focus from what occupies it when overdone. Lighting design is an often overlooked aspect of architectural and interior design. If I were designing a garage for a collection I definitely have some ideas for the lighting Smiley

It you look at the Porsche configurator for the GT3 Touring and select PTS, you also get something similar:
