wantone:The Golf R will be its real competitor as the A45 is way more expensive. I think the Golf R is a great winter car but VWs are a bit dull to drive.
We drove one a few years back and fully agree on the "dull" part. Sort of sleeper performance but not much character.... so our Subaru STi lives on.....

At the risk of sounding like a crazed Volkswagen fan, the new Golf R is allegedly very different in driving dynamics than models past with the addition of a more aggressive and torque vectoring rear differential. Comparisons, therefore, require a driving test of the new car.

Agree the new one sounds promising.... locally the past gen R was selling with a $8k dealer markup, and no test drives allowed....I felt like Leawood and his Porsche dealer..... I later ended up finding a used one to drive. Meanwhile the Subaru dealer just throws you the keys to their demo STi and just says....have fun!

I actually just see one whilst out, in a car park. Love the white ones but this one was a darkish metallic red, it was really nice. Surprised me

I am not an owner but I actually had the car for four days thanks to Toyota France. They lent me the "Premium", I am going to try the "Track" version on the weekend of the 19th of November, I'll let you know about what I think of this little car
Coming back to the GR Yaris "comfort", it is a very very funny little car especially on wet roads. Very good on long journey and very nice as well in the city. The roof line is taking a little bit the head room for the back seats but you can easily do 2 hours drive, no problem.
Such a nice engine as well, no acyclism at all and very funny small turbo lag! Oh and it revs so fast without any inertia! Great chassis, strong gearbox, however I wouldn't mind an hydraulic steering...
Do you want to know anything more? I am here if you need to! And if you are unexpectedly passing by Paris on the weekend of the 19th I can let you try this little beast
Hi guys, just spent the last weekend with the GR Yaris (Track Pack). Michelin's tyres are really better than Dunlop's ones. It is really a great little car, it's not a fun car but a serious car with serious performance. Just insane to see such a nimble little car going that fast. The engine is really strong and even if the sound is played with the speaker I quite like it... However I find strange the driving position and the position of the pedals. Let's be honest, for 35k€ it is really a bargain
if you have any question I am here for you!
Thanks for sharing.
I am still struggling with the decision if I should get one because my son knows how to drive stick (his current BMW has automatic though) and at least there would be two persons in the family who know to drive stick.
Local dealer has a car he wants to get rid of but I'm still not sure.
