Carrera S Porsche Powerkit X53 !!!

Well it was about time!!!

Porsche will release the Powerkit for Carrera S in September 2005!!Its unbelievable!
The code will be X53 and will feature 381 HP !! and 422 Nm of torque!!

I guess the code is X53 because in late 2005(around December) the Powerkit for the base carrera will be realeased probably with the code X52

But the amazing news is that it is estimated to cost around 7,000 Euro insted of 13,000 for 996 and maybe a litle less!!
Plus the powerkit will include an upgrade in the car's engine software that will "transfer" the rev limiter to 7,800 rpm!!! Imagine the sound at these revs!!

In aprox. 2 weeks Porsche will OFICIALY post the Powerkit details!!

The 7000 euro price is that what it will cost to retro fit it or as an option when purchasing the car

Well, correct if I'm wrong, but I always thought the 996 Powerkit costs between 7.667,60 Euro (incl. 16% VAT, 6.610,00 Euro excl. VAT) for the Carrera until 12/00 and 7.946,00 Euro (incl. 16% VAT, 6.850,00 Euro excl. VAT) for the Carrera from 08/01 onwards?

retrofitting a powerkit is a very bad idea economically.

aftermarket modifications costing much less can yield much higher gains than factory powerkits in the base 996 and 996 turbo applications.

In Italy,on Genuary 2003 I payed X51 about 10,000 Euro(incl 20% IVA).

For the neophyte (like me) what does a powerkit entail? New cams? Fuel mapping? What exactly are the mods that get you the additional 25 plus HP?

The base 997 should have had the S power and the S should have the powerkit power. Instead, they make you pay through the nose for what you should have had. What is distressing about all this is they get away with it! Many S owners will fork out the extra money and line Porsches' pockets.

Those that do will soon learn they will not get one dime back on their powerkit cost.

If this rumor is true, Porsche thank you for not letting me down.

Many people, including me, think the base 997 should have the S 3.8 engine and S should have the 3.8 power kit. Another thing to keep in mind is the resale value of a 997 equipped with the X53. I know the 996 TT X50(i think a larger increase in power than the X53) owners paid a premium of 15k for the powerkit and are only getting an additional 5k for thier car when they sell it used. With the new GT3 only about 10k more than a 997 X53, the X53 may not be worthwhile. Throw in the price of the aerokit and it makes the 2 even closer. If you can afford the X53 option, then the GT3 shouldn't be that much of a jump. Just my opinion. I know resale is not a big concern for some people but something to keep in the back of your mind.

Carlos, I have reached a point with your defense of Porsche of the indefensible, I believe if Porsche told you the sun rose in the west and set in the east, you would believe them and defend their position.

The difference between you and me is that I will complain loudly to Ferrari if I believe they are screwing me. With you and Porsche if they told you to bend over and grab your ankles you would do it.

I don't really see the appeal....

I mean more power - great sure... but does any of us REALLY NEED more power in this car? Not racing it.... it doesn't feel underpowered to me and it's VERY fast.....
