    Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

Just curious if there is anymore info indicating a higher-performance lower weight version intended for the road?

    Thanks!

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

in Italy the rumors are live again...

front bumper like the one of the GT3 RS(racing version) big wheels maybe 19" and big wheels arches similar to the one of the 993GT2.... BO?!?!?!?!?!?!

I have a friend that is on the list....for a late 2003 early 2004 delivery.....

    Ciao

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

    hi dario,

has your friend any information about the price compared to GT2 or GT3?

    regards

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

    he said near 115.000 Euro......

But it seems that another our italian friend has a GT3RS on order...... L......?!!?!

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

New reliable rumor concerning the GT3-RS:

    - to see at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2003
    - around 100 cars will be produced
    - the look will be the same as the regular GT3
    - 420 hp
    - melded? (in german: geschweisster) rollcage
    - price: Euro 130.000 - 140.000,--

I was told, that zhe GT3-RS will be a cup car with license-plates.
I don't know if the car will be available in every country, but my dad will probably get one.

That car will be the hardest competitor to the Stradale!!!

    p.s.: this is no april-joke!

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

If you go to the Porsche website you can see the 3D view of the GT3RS.

Couldn't you fit the intake from the RS which is an intake that has a throttle control valve for each cylinder, rather than a throttle control valve for all 6 cylinders (which is on the roadgoing GT3) to the GT3 and then run different cams and wiring harness and ECU.

Is there anyone on this board who is mechanically inclined?

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

I would think the effect of the engine mod would be minimal compared to the >500lbs difference in weight between the two cars...

Re: Any more rumors of a street-legal GT3RS?

I think there would also be issues with emissions and noise (the GT3RS doesn't run mufflers or cats), not to mention what it would do to your warranty. The GT3 RS engine is a racing engine, not designed for street use. It requires a rebuild after every 30 hours of race use. A rebuild starts at $25K and goes up from there depending on what you need. So be careful what you wish for, this is one combination that wouldn't work very well for the street.

    420 hp?

420 Horsepower from a 3.6? Is that possible? Where does it redline?

    Re: 420 hp?

Yes, it's possible. Redline is 8500. New Ferrari 360 CS gets 425hp from 3.6L and it's a street car...

RS-Tuning built a reliable 460 HP 3.6 l engine for the Nuerburgring 24 hour race last year. So yes, indeed, it is no problem to get reliable 420 HP out of the 3.6 l engine.
    Porsche's 3.6 l engine from the GT1/993/GT3/996 Turbo/996 GT2 is a juwel, a masterpiece.

    Re: 420 hp?

I understand that the new GT3 motor is stronger than the Turbo and even the GT2's. since the GT3 motor it has titanium rods, is this true?

    Re: 420 hp?

I think the titanium rods were done more for weight reduction than for increased strength. By using titanium they were able to provide the same strength for less weight.

I don't know what is used in the GT2.

    Re: 420 hp?

GT2 doesn't have Ti rods, since it only spins to 6,800 rpm (compared to 8,200 for GT3). I wouldn't say the GT3 engine is much stronger, since it has alot of stress at those high revs. Turbo motors also have alot of stress with high compression and lots of heat. They're in the same league strengthwise, with driving style being the biggest factor (high boost and high revs will cause wear of them both, respectively)

    Ti Rods....

Grant....the ur GT3, '99,'00, had titanium rods too. In the neu GT3 motor the Ti rods have been lengthened by 3 mm and the piston crowns reduced by 3 mm saving about 85 grams per cylinder. (according to the latest R&T mag). The piston pin offset has also been adjusted to reduce slap and noise.

    Not quite right.

The titanium rods usually are better for short term stress at high rev but aren't that good for longterm stress.
They're usually used for racing where "longterm" isn't such an issue. The titanium weakens after some time, not after a month or a year but...
They're used because of weight and resistance.

The first GT3 cars out of the first series (there have been 2 series) didn't have titanium rods.

    Re: Ti Rods....

RC....I totally respect your knowledge, insights, and information. I was quoting from a factory booklet titled "The 911 GT3 A passion for Motorsport" printed in February, 1999, printed in Deutschland in english and provided some time ago by CFG. Page 10 says in the context of describing the GT3 engine: "Titanium con rods help reduce the weight of moving masses and therefore improve engine response." I'm sure that this is not the first time that even factory info might not match what they really build.

    Re: Ti Rods....

Shaving a few grams off the reciprocating parts to improve throttle response is great. I love immediate throttle response - one reason that I'm going to probably remove the AC equipment from my GT3 eventually. If it takes .5hp to run the compressor (when AC is off according to CFG), I'm sure that translates into quite a bit of inertia with regard to throttle response. I bet it makes more difference than the difference between Ti and Steel conrods. Made a noticeable difference with the 73S I had...
