    Advanced Driving Tuition

I've now completely run the C2S in (2,400 miles in just over 3 weeks) and it is loosening up nicely. The car's performance probably outweighs my ability by a factor of 10 and I feel I really need to get some professional tuition. Porsche offers something called "Porsche Sports Driving School", just wondering if any of you UK guys have gone down this route, and what alternatives are out there?

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

i m from Greece but my honest opinion, is if you deside to attempt such courses do it with "their" car, dont f**k your car.
And there are some issues with damages cause during track use.
Moreover, i cant stop thinking what Porsche gains when its customers enter such courses, and tracks with their own vechicles. They just push their cars so much, that after servicing is required much more early plus cluthes brakes, brake pads, etc.

Imagine what a profit ,globaly, this brings to Porsche.

You cannot thrash your car around a track and then expect everything is fine.
    Even a Porsche.
I have mine checked by the dealer after each session (between 3 and 6 a year, so not too bad) and usually adjust things like brake fluid, tyres, brake pads, etc.
I think it is great to do it with your own car Otherwise, where use 100% of its capabilities?
Laws in Europe are quite strict these days.

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

in this perpective you are right, but people who do not track their cars, do not know of the potential damages that can be done through tracking.
Is there anyone before their action that informs them about these "potential" danger?

    meaning, hard use of clutch,etc.

I would do it personally, but would feel more confortable with a "porsche" car. And many of these events are quite expensive, so why not use their car ??

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

I think usually it's more expensive when you use their car.
Also, there are two kind of Porsche driving school, the one on the track which is purely based on performance and the one more focused on safety, I think the latter is based in Austria but not sure.
Really good concept I think, they basically put you in a dangerous situation and teach you how to get out of it or control the car.
And that king of event is not as hard on the car as a trackday I would think.
    To be considered...

I agree my abilities fall far short of what the car is capable of. Alternative to Porsche :-

I am doing a course in May will be either with Porsche or Masterclass. Mixture of road and track and I don't believe its too hard on your own car. Check insurance though!

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

Cheers dreamcar, i'll give them a call.

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

If you are after experience in improving your road driving I have received many recommendations for John Cave at Drivetrain performace driving. You can check out their website at www.drivetrain.uk.com

I haven't been on the course, but am booked in for May. Not sure of the cost as it was a Christmas present, but I think it is about Pounds250 for the day. You drive your own vehicle and apparently don't break any speed limits, so shouldn';t be any insurance issues.

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

For $200 I can get 2 hours of track time. I'm sure if I used someone else's car I'd be charged much much more. For example, I've seen viper track days for something like 2000 and I know you can rent race mazda miatas for 400, not including track time. I like sporty cars for the street, especially Porsches. I also love track time and can't think of a better way to enjoy the car I'd own anyway. When I use my own car I can build on previous experience with the same car and access many more track days every year. All the schools that use their own cars put together would only be maybe 10 dates a year (in my area) and I wouldn't be interested in driving all their cars. With my own car I have access to probably 2-3 dates a month and can do it with a car I enjoy driving more and can setup to my tastes.

Of course you can run into a wall and lose your car. The track I use the most has nothing to hit so I don't worry about this. Other than this if you don't know how to shift you can ruin your clutch or miss a shift. But if you can shift well and avoid walls (not too difficult), then you're just looking at replacing brakes and tires more, which to me is no big deal. Sure a warning is in order, but in my opinion, this is what a Porsche is MEANT to do. Last time I was at the track there were 3 GT3s, a 997S, and a 996 turbo and this wasn't a porsche only day by any means.

    Re: Advanced Driving Tuition

Do you have to use your own car with the Porsche Driving tuition?.....Ferrari run a similar course called Pilota, they provided the cars...360's and 575's....I didn't do it because I thought the price was steep. It was several thousand dollars for a couple of days...They ran the intro course at Mugello, and the advanced at Fiorano.

How much is the Porsche one.....gotta say if I'm trying to explore the outer limits of a car, would rather try in someone else's Porsche
