    Alfa Romeo GTA

    Here is this week's restoration special. I have always loved the step front Alfa Giulia 105 series cars. So when I had the opportunity to acquire the pinnacle  of these which is an Alleggerita or lightweight version produced for, and raced by, Alfa's own Autodelta race team I grabbed it with both hands. Here is the car racing in 1965

    In the 60's and 70's in South Africa there was a driver called Basil van Rooyen who's Alfa's were always quick and beautifully turned out.

    One of my favorite cars from that era! The design is so clean, so minnimal, yet the subtle proportions and curves of the body work have so much character. Coincidentally saw one about a month ago parked near the park here in Boston. Congrats Cray!

    From the experts:

    The shield is an air deflector used to guide air over the wipers – only the 1965 team cars used them, then they were banned by the FIA for deviating from the correct silhouette rule of gp.2 touring cars.

    Very nice. So this chassis is the regular automotive steel they were using at that time in Italy or something else?

    Original chassis was steel,  but  aluminium floor pan and doors etc to reduce weight

    The aluminium is original -that's what makes it an Autodelta car.

    The floor plan is just 4 pieces where you rest the feet, not all the bottom part, right?

    My understanding is that it is the whole floor of the car but not the cross beams etc.
