Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

This past week I was doing a Porsche Circle driving event in the Dolomites passes. As expected we were given 992 turbo S to be thrashed around.

It’s actually my first time ever in a 992.

We did the same passes 3 years ago in a 991 turbo S so now I have an apple to apple comparison between the two generations.

My first takeaway, Wet Mode is amazing. Thursday it was raining and cold, we had Wet Mode on and the car simply will not allow wheel spins. Pretty much defying physics how good the car stick to the road. As it happens 3 years ago we had some rain too on one of the days and the 991 wasn’t as planted compared to the 992.

I picked a convertible this time around, and the top is simply amazing. Was traveling on the highway at speed up to 170km/hr and literally no wind noise inside and no messy hair for my girlfriend either with the wind defector up.

Car feels big and heavy however. It isn’t that much bigger than a 991 but behind the wheel I felt like I was in a Panamera when trying to place it on the road, I had to keep checking the right side mirror to see where my right fender is. Braking and turning is where I can feel extra weight transfer over the 991. But that’s with PDCC on and in Sport Mode. Sport Plus mode however the car is much more agile and willing.

Power. On highway, passing is even more effortless over the 991. There is simply no need to use the push to pass button. It reminds me again  why the turbo S is the best 911, it’s a Swiss Army knife sort of car. Sports mode the car is a great GT, Sport Plus mode it will shame most of the sports car around.

Anothe thing about power. For the 992 turbo S, there is a power dead spot from idle to 2000rpm. In second gear out of turns in that rpm range, the car simply won’t go anywhere, like major turbo lag, this didn’t happened in a 991. I felt like I was in my 964 turbo 3.6 in that regards. Porsche probably sacrificed a bit of drivability to hit the high end power target.

I truly love and adore the interior. Everything is so nice looking, nice feeling when touched and all high end materials. Fit and finish is second to none. The little shifter makes me feel like I am in the 918. Cute. Convertible top is also nicely insulated, no different than say in a hardtop car. Only problem is a big blind spot for rear 3/4 view. But nothing a properly adjusted mirror won’t help.

I was basically staring at a 992 turbo S’s ass for the last 5 days, and also the front of one in the mirror. One word, the ass is THICK. when inside tunnels, with the rear light bar on, and without seeing the car’s color, the rear profile with the fender and glasshouse silhouette, it looks just like a Taycan.

Another thing about the outside look, on a non-turbo convertible, the rear has a weird hump to it. But on the turbo/turbo S, the extra wing breaks that up nicely so it’s very pleasing to the eyes.

Overall, it’s a mixed bag, still on the fence about whether to get a 992 turbo S or not.

    In a way, yes.

The old 918 Spyder Circle was for 918 owners only. 2 years ago they changed the format and includes GT car owners and changed the name to Porsche Circle.

Each dealer would have submitted names of their GT car clients to HQs and those names will in turn be sent back to Germany and an invite to join the Circle will be sent.

2020 was a lost year, and Porsche actually didn’t cancel the whole program and let it live. They had another event planned at Nardo later this year, it was supposed to coincide with a car launch. That event has now been pushed back to 2022. There should also be another event at Goodwood next year. But that will not be a driving event. More like a social and insight event. I believe a return to visit Le Mans is also planned as Porsche will be competing again.

Nick, when did you buy the GT3RS again? If it was during 2018 your dealer should have submitted your contact to PCNA. It would seems like they didn’t. If you are interested, send me your contact via pm and I will forward that to Germany to get it sorted.

Maybe the mirror is finally breaking for Nick?  Objective reality is a powerful force.
The fact is conservatives are far more charitable and clearly also more open minded than liberals.

Nothing is black and white, everything is a shade of grey somewhere. Believe it or not, I identify more as a Dem than a Conservative.

I am all for LBGT rights and I am not for church over state.

I am not for overly broad gun rights but I respect choices.

I am however all in for law and order, and I believe that for compassionate reasons some illegal immigrants can be made legal, but only if they go through the proper channels like everyone else, they have to leave the country and reenter legally first. But at least give them a fast track pass or something.

I am all for FAIR tax rate, which, will be 25% max. Who wants to work till July/August/Sept before money start going into their own pocket? Simplify the tax code and make it a flat rate, it will be cheaper for billionaires to just file it themselves than to employ hundreds of lawyers and accountants and shell companies to find loopholes. Make the tax code so simply that there aren't any loopholes, it would work wonders.

Re: OFFICIAL: New Porsche 911 Turbo S (2020)

At the end of the day, we should all focus on decentralizing government as much as possible to the local level. Otherwise everything gets lost in a permanent bureaucracy. Switzerland is the best example of this. Some of the highest social services in the world and lowest aggregate tax take.  And btw Switz has the highest per capita military spending  in the world. At the end of the day i think all of us agree on objectives in politics, the issue is all about delivery, and unfortunately state bureaucracies just don't deliver. I get back to my father in Australia being a private doctor. Australia has a universal healthcare system called Medicare and then a private system on top of it. What was fascinating is the private hospitals had a lower cost of service than the state ones. Why? Because the state ones had two admin staff for every front line worker and the private hospotals were the reverse. Again I have  no objection that a first world country should have medical care for all, the question is all about optimizing delivery. Sorry for the politics guys. If you optimize delivery of services thru decentralization, then you can achieve much more across the board, irrespective of political affiliation (unless of course you want the large state bureaucracy for whatever reason). We are getting to a time in the west when we have to consider how to optimize government services. Another thing, contingent liabilities. I have  no plans nor desire nor ability to retire at 55 or even at 20 years of service and receive a pension for the rest of my life. I am not sure how we can reasonably continue that, even for our heroes in police and fire, etc. btw, Merkel decreasing the retirement age in Germany a few years ago was non-sensical. Sorry, a bit of a ramble.
