OK, besides the central exhaust which leads one to belief its a GT3 (we have seen aerokit carreras and they had side exhausts), this car also has the GT3 grill at the end of the bonnet and two air intake on the engine lid in front of the wing, both things that the aerokit carrera does not have. Too much coincidence.
And given it has no bucket seats, it has yellow turn signals, and bumperettes... could be an american spec GT3 at that (maybe the 997GT3 wil make it to the US then afterall).
My guess too Carlos. I think this is at least another car than the "normal" aerokit. The three points you mentioned give it away; central exhaust, front bonnet vents, sub-wing inlets. -Joost-
looks like pretty cool car in the end. much better than the normal 997 due to the fact that the front looks less beetlesque because of agressive front spoiler. now we should focus on finding out, if the engine will stay the same but with 400 hp or maybe the normal carrera engine with the fake drysump tweaked to 400hp.
Have just received a mailing from my dealer with some springtime offers (wheels, cleaning set etc.). It also features the aerokit which looks exactly like on the pics above - except for the central exhaust. Price is 7k CHF (roughly $8.4K).
the air intakes on the engine lid in front of the spoiler seem to be part of the normal aero kit as well. at least thats how it looks on the pics i was sent in the aerokit brochure.
Yes, but if you loo more closely they are different. The aerokit ones are shallower and open towards the front, but in the GT3 they are taller and seem like they open rearwards also.
There ar twin scoops because I think this engine is using a twin airbox desigm, one on either side of the intake. The reason is that with the central muffler now taking the place of where the airbox resided on the 996 GT3, that is down in between the motor and the rear bumber, they obviously cannot place the airbox there. With no room for the airbox in that area, I bet they moved the airbox up and to the sides of the intake. Thats why there are 2 scoops to ensure that fresh cool air is directed to both air boxes or air filters.
Rotors are not cross drilled. The 997 and 997S are already available...so why would they be winter testing just a plain old 997? Are they winter testing the aerokit? I doubt it. So they have to be winter testing something else.
Assuming that this is a GT3, and it has the 3.6L motor with a little more HP, would it still be necessry for them to winter test it when winter tests have already been done for the 997 and winter tests on the 3.6L motor have been done years ago for the 996 model?
They have to be testing something else or at least something special. Maybe DSG.
