    Engine could not start!!

Well as ridiculus as it sounds this happened a couple of days back.
I was entering a small parking space in the town when i suddently braked not to approach the near car.I did not press the cluch ,i was in very slow speed and revs so tghe engine closed. So what this happens. So i try to turn on the engine again but nothing, after trying for 5 times and with some gas at the last 3 times nothing could be done, the engine did not start up.
I was then determined to call road assistance.
(note:in Greece these guys at Porsche do not have specialized road assistance but instead cooperate with another company, i mean com on guys even BMW has its own road assistance team with specialized knowledge!)
So when the guy showed up said that we might have to put the car on the transport truck(dont know the word), i got mad i said :fix it know.
He went inside tryied to start up the engine nothing, he then tried again with his foot pressing the gas pedal all the was down, and the car started.
Diagnosis: The engine was stuffed(dont know the word) with too much gas and could not start up , it needed more gas pressure.
Nonsense to me beacause i waited 20 mins before i tried the last 3 times to give the car a break period and then try again.
It just seems too silly to me that's all

You think i should go check this at the dealer?

    Re: Engine could not start!!

Take it to the dealer for a check. This is not normal.

    Re: Engine could not start!!

If it's not a breakdown of some system that needs a repair, there's got to be a reason this happened and there's got to be a simple solution. For your stalling the engine, they probably didn't bother to include the solution in the manual.

My wife's car battery went dead and she couldn't get the key out of the ignition. The manual was useless. After several hours the dealer service dept finally said, "Oh, yes, when that happens all you have to do is push a screwdriver thru the hole under the steering column and the key will come out."

Why they couldn't have put that in the manual I do not know!

    Re: Engine could not start!!

Sounds like the engine was flooded. Used to happen on older cars, but I thought with all the fancy engine management systems nowadays, the engine would know this and "manage" the situation. In the old days the cure was to floor the pedal etc as your guy did. Again in the old days, this wasn't a problem that needed to be "fixed"

    Re: Engine could not start!!

OF COURSE LEONG AND ITS NOT A PROBLEM THAT CAN BE FIXE , ITS NOT THAT SOMETHING IS PROBLEMATIC, IT WAS THE MOMENT
and MMD the same with the battery can happen to porsche but it has directions in the manual of how to deal with it. What was your wifes car?

Correct me if I'm wrong.... BUT

I bet there is NO WAY the engine could be flooded. The car has E-Gas - the gas pedal is controled electronically and I bet it doesn't even LET you FLOOD the engine with gas when it's not running....

I could be wrong so maybe someone smarter than me can clarify....

ALSO - this MAY be obvious but you know that even if it's not in gear the car will not start without the clutch engaged. Is it possible that while you were flustered with stalling the car, you then forgot to engage the clutch??

Re: Correct me if I'm wrong.... BUT

no John, it could be the case but its something i focused on doing that time, because it crossed my mind that maybe i did not press the cluthch deep enough.

But the car appeared to be starting while it couldnt actually and did not start up.

Re: Correct me if I'm wrong.... BUT

I've had a similar thing happen. The car stalls under load at slow speed. I try to start it and it won't. What I do is turn the ignition completely off(so that everything shuts off). Then try again. The car will start again. I bet that's it.

Re: Correct me if I'm wrong.... BUT

I TOLD YOU THE CASE I TOOK THE KEY OFF 2 TIMES AND WAITED 20 MINS.

It only started when the guy pressed the gas pedal all the way down.
    It was ckoaked with gas

As mentioned above, I thought E Gas would prevent this situation. But I remember even on my 1981 VW Rabbit (Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection) that you could flood the car and by flooring the gas pedal, you open the intake manifold all the way which lets the gas vapors already in the flooded engine escape easier so that the air/fuel ratio returns to a state where ignition can occur. Seems like some of the old tricks still work on today's cars.

Oh, in that case you better get a new one
