    Re: New Porsche EV

    To be objective:

    1. Very nice dimensions, finally the compact race car. Getting tired of the f1 and gt’s becoming the buses. Simply compare modern pee nose f1 cars and state of art v10.

    2. Very advanced tech. 900v, natural fibers for aero (modern trend, but currently natural fibers are not used for heavily stressed applications), safety (consider the size of the car)

so you can see that the engineering team worked hard on it, once again, Porsche confirmed it is on avant garde in engineering. Every competitor is behind

but… from design language point of view its sh-t, tasteless design (like most of modern supercars, what to do… aim clients from asia and middle east love it, very few cars remain with the clean and pure lines) having nothing in common with the brand history and its design language. You cant even justify it by the aero, its not prototype or single seater.

So funny this morning when I first saw the pictures.

From the front, I thought I was looking at an RX-7 with a aftermarket bodykit.

Side view I see a Koenigsegg.

It just looks so un-Porsche like.

    +1.

Hm, I understand what you say regarding the resemblance with a Koenigsegg or the RX-7. To me, do I like the car as such.. Meh. The main association that I have with it is the 919 Le Mans car, which in itself doesn't have a lot of typical Porsche looks. Also, I don't care too much for the "hanging curtain"  look. It's hard to explain, but somehow, it looks like the care is floating above the ground, and the space between the car and the ground is filled by a hanging curtain. But there are a lot of really beautifully designed elements that I really like, so in the end I think I kinda like it.

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

I like the Mission R concept.  Lots of exciting styling elements. We'll have to get accustomed to the new Porsche EV face/lights and the essential from now on, Swan Neck wing.

I think this concept could evolve into the Taycan sportscar to supplement the sedan and the crossover..

Some people will comment that the new design doesn't look like a Porsche. Probably the same people who were complaining that every new Porsche had to look like a 911.

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

It really is not bad looking for a focused Motorsport product. I really like the rear which looks super aggressive. The front is OK, but nothing special. The profile is quite Porsche and I like it.

My issue is the drive train. I wish Porsche had used this opportunity to showcase a synthetic fuel product.

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

One day later, I see it as a 718 replacement in the near future...

Even the fuel consumption in the press release is from the 718... smiley

Synthetic fuel is a cool thing, lets look how it will work. Considering that the new oil fields are more and more difficult to develop and extract oil, e fuels could be the alternative. Only 2 disadvantages: much less BTU than petrol (less energy per liter, even less than with ethanol based fuels) and of course, all this ecology talkings are pure BS, because the electrolysis of hydrogen and carbon is a very very and very energy consuming process, that requires lots of energy, so the question, where from you take this energy:-)

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

The shape was pretty much what all DPI's looked like in that era due to the regulations. It was a Riley Chassis/body.

    Engine was Cayenne derived.

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

If the battery fires nothing can stop it from burning. In case of mobile phones the special fireproof bags are used. Lithium is too active

Interesting, they will allow it to be faster than the 911 since it is different propulsion.  They feel that it will not compete with ICE 911 because people will not mind going slower in an ICE car.

It’s just an observation. Fascinated to see how it will turn out. It is easy to project your own perspective onto how others view the same thing - like nberry and his vision of what a gt3 RS is.  I am obviously the same way to an extent but I still consider my Turbo my favorite by far.
Porsche will need to find that balance between the two types of propulsion- and do both at the highest levels.  If anyone can do it they can. There will always be pros and cons to each side to we end up the winners by getting better choices and more performance.

    Re: Porsche Mission R...

Norway is also a big exporter of electrical power as far as I know so it's easier for them to install chargers and adopt EV faster.
