    996 gt3 production numbers

    Hey guys,
    anyone of you know how many cars of gt3 mk1 and mk2 have been produced? has the producton of mk2 now stopped?

    numbers are somewhere on rennlist, i forget where

    production for the MK2 GT3 ended a few months ago

    thanks moogle. actually thinking about swapping my tt with a gt3. found a clubsport i like for a good price. guess it's a different kind of animal, but I'm very intrigued. for sure its lighter and has better brakes than the tt. hope i get the same kick from it as i actually get from the tt. any suggestion? anyone made that switch and regret it? and btw., is it correct to assume that its 20mm lower than the tt? thanks for advice!

    as far as i know the first batch (1999) of the 996 GT3 Mk I was limited to around 700 cars. due to the strong demand porsche produced another (approx) 500 GT3 one year later.

    i'm not sure about the Mk II though, i've read here on rennteam that 684 GT3 RS have been built in MY04 (the only year of production for the RS).

    having in mind that Mk II was offered in the US as well, my guess would be that there are 1500-2000 Mk II GT3's around worldwide.

    thanks, but i think i got some good info myself in the end more or less. in 2003 they built 583 street gt3s, in 04 1544 plus 142 gt3 cup (this might refer to fiscal years though which end in july, so the cars sold after juli 04 would not be in here) The prod. numbers for gt3 rs are 654 and only 22 for gt3 rsr.
    anymore thought to the change from tt to gt3 from you guys?

    no doubt the TT is the better overall car and a more practical daily driver, but personally i'd prefer the GT3 anytime. i love the sound (something the TT always lacked IMO), the pureness, the high revving engine.

    but since TT depreciation is heavy at the moment, i'm not sure i'd recommend a change -- and with 4WD and ESP/PSM, the turbo is much easier to drive fast in comparison (if not that rewarding maybe).

    so, finally, i wouldn't do it if i'd own a TT right now. but it's always a question what you personally want. the GT3 is so different in character IMO.

    btw, regarding your other question: yes, the GT3 is 20mm lower than TT. so forget about multi-story parking!

    the depreciation issue is exactly the problem... still, gt3s now are down 25% from new as well...

    Here in D/FW, used 996GT3s are fetching $1-4K off MSRP. The car has held its value very well. I think it will tank if the 997GT3 is as good as promised and available. . .

    but IMO not if PAG really (as some rumours say) drops the dry sump GT3 engine and goes for a tuned 997 engine.
