    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/gasly-spray-issue-poor-visibility/6657654/

Alpha Tauri might want to send their aerodynamic engineer to have a chat with Gasly...........

The upshooting of water was FROM their diffusers. The low pressure underneath his car, and everyone else's cars, sucks up the moisture on the surface of the road, vaporized it and shoots out the back together with the air that was passing underneath.

My old Speciale has the most glorious rooster tail, topping even the 918. Make sense as the Speciale generate pretty much all it's downforce from underneath the car, while the 918 still relies on the modest wing. My Huraccan has a tail somewhere close to the 918, again another car that doesn't have a wing.

The two AMG have next to non-existent diffusers, of course there won't be much rooster tail to look at.

Wait till he experience the 2022 car, those moved most of the downforce generation to Venturi tunnels, that means even more water vapour coming out the back.

On theory, the 2022 car's rear wing structure is helping the air coming out from the diffuser to go even higher up in elevation, to 'vent' upwards the dirty air. That just means all the water vapour is going even higher and creating a even bigger 'fog' in the wet. Gasly is in for a treat next year.

Older F1 don't have nearly as powerful ground effects, so the water vapour tail isn't as bad.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    More F1 chatter.

Multiple 'reports' are indicating that Alfa Romeo is set to do an announcement at Monza.

Reports have mentioned that Kimi is set to retire after this year, freeing up a seat.

Reports also indicated that Bottas is all set to go to Alfa Romeo to take up Kimi's seat and freeing the seat at Mercedes for Russell.

AND reports are going around that Alfa Romeo is ditching the Ferrari engine and going for Mercedes engine.

If one put 2 and 2 together, and take all the pieces together instead of separately,  that would means someone somewhere is facilitating the Alfa Romeo/Mercedes deal first, before releasing the news that Bottas will be signing with Alfa Romeo, thus, keeping Bottas as a Mercedes driver. Basically shuffling driver team to team like how Red Bull did with Alpha Tauri.

If Alfa Romeo do sign up wit Mercedes, I don't think they will keep the name. The team is Sauber after all and Alfa Romeo is just a title sponsor, like how the old Red Bull was labeled with Aston Martin. Sauber Mercedes for 2022?

That would make half the grid Mercedes powered cars, one Renault, 2 Hondas and 2 Ferraris.

If Williams do indeed loses Russell, do they stay with Mercedes engines? Or do Renault try to supply Williams again?

And do they bring up Aiken? Or Nissany? Or try to sign Hulkenberg? Hulk is only signed to Aston for this year. And he also drove for Renault before.

More intriguing would be if Williams do indeed take Renault engines, that means Renault can park Guanyu Zhou there. Alpine already has Ocon and Alonso is not leaving his seat, there is no room for Zhou. Being engine supplier to Williams  would solve that problem.

Latifi is the pay driver, can't boot him out. So only one seat is in play at Williams. just like Aston where Junior is staying.

    Imagine this scenario for 2022.

    Mercedes has Russell.

    Red Bull still got Max.

    Gasly at Alpha Tauri

    Norris at McLaren

    Leclerc at Ferrari

    Ocon at Alpine

    Zhou at Williams

Schumacher at Haas (don't laugh, they could be decent come 2022)

That leaves Sauber and Aston without a star young gun. And no, I am not putting Junior in the same sentence with the others. Without the strong Force India/Aston Martin car, Junior would just be another Latifi and Giovinazzi.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

I know that he is past his glory times, but I will miss this guy… he was somehow a breath of fresh air in F1, really happy for him that he has got his WDC title in 2007… he really deserved it especially after loosing two titles by a margain of 1 or 2 points. I think although he was the quietest driver he at the same time the one who made us all laugh the most. Thanks Kimi and all the best for your future wink

    Kimi: Yes.

    Announcer1: What about Lewis?

    Kimi: Yes.

Announcer1: Kimi, do you think the rain is going to continue?

    Kimi: No.

Announcer!: Kimi How you think about that overtake by Norris on Max?

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

So FIA opted to not let the cars open up the DRS on the final turn. Even less places to over take now. Qualifying will be super super important this weekend.

On another note, thank god the Dutch judge had some common sense and sided with the track instead of the crazies. Man those environmental maniacs really needs to chill.

Kimi retiring is the first domino to fall. This weekend could be a busy one for driver news.

Bottas to Sauber could be the next one to be announced. Then Russell to Mercedes. After that, it's all speculation.

Could Sauber ditch Ferrari and take on the Mercedes engines? Would they ditch Giovinazzi and take on another Mercedes driver? Could they take de Vries to fill that seat? That would means Williams can promote one of their own junior.

de Vries have been heavily linked to the Williams seat to be vacated by Russell. Now if Williams keep the Mercedes engine package for 2022 then installing another Mercedes driver there would be natural.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Isn't it great Zandvoort has walls and gravel pits instead of paved runoffs?

I am going to bet there won't be track limit controversies this weekend

Now the drivers will drive within their limits, and the limits of the track.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Is that the Aston-Martin?   It sounds great.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Max is under tremendous pressure to perform well this weekend. Actually correction, nothing less than a win will suffice.

It's the long awaiting actual home GP for him for the very first time and with grandstands packed full of his supporters. This is more pressure than anyone running their home GP. Not even Hamilton at Silverstone will feel more pressure. Hamilton won that many times and also the Wold Championship many times, he is proven to be able to handle pressure.

Max is one of the top talents on the grid, and driving the fastest car, his fans expects him to win. He also really wanted to win the very first Dutch GP he is participating. On top of the fact that winning this weekend would put him back on top of the standings. This weekend is the first real test for Max to see if he can handle real pressure. If he passes, he is World Champion material.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

    The Ferraris are surprisingly quick.

Could they be the dark horse and win on Sunday? Leaving Max and Lewis holding the bag? Those Dutch fans will not be happy if Max doesn't win.

Mercedes isn't going to announce who they sign this weekend, so the mystery will drag on for another week at least. But expected as next week Monza would be Alfa Romeo's home race.

Wonder if there is damage to Lewis' engine and he will need to take a grid penalty over the weekend.

Some people think Lewis would feel threatened about Mercedes signing Russell. That's just about the biggest BS there is. Over the years, Lewis has had 3 World Champions as teammates, Alonso, Button and Rosberg, he stared them all down. He also got 7 WC at home so there is really nothing to prove anymore. It is very likely that he would get great satisfaction mentoring Russell to be the next WC and his heir.

Up and down the grid, the one that feels most threatened by Russell's move to Mercedes would be Max. This year is his biggest chance to win it all. If he doesn't, next year he is in for a big dog fight with the regulation change. Not only has he got to deal with Hamilton in a Mercedes like this year, he will also need to deal with Russell in a Mercedes. Leclerc and in a way Sainz in a Ferrari, Norris in the Mclaren would also be a threat. Could Ocon mount a challenge in the Alpine? That's 6 drivers that he has to battle against. Chances are he may not win it all next year.

    Re: [2021] Formula 1

Not a popular view, as many are Max fans and not too many are Lewis fans and this kind of view point doesn't sit well with Max fans. But it's just logical from facts.

Lewis broke into F1 paring with Alonso. Beat him fair and square. If not for an amateur mistake at Shanghai pit entrance, he would have won the WC on his rookie year. Kimi ended up winning.

He got Button next. Beat him fair and square.

Next up is Rosberg. If it wasn't for a blown engine at Malaysia, Hamilton would have taken that year's WC also and leaving Rosberg with none. But that didn't happened and Rosberg won.

Bottas was a prospect for Mercedes, but he just wasn't up to par, not Hamilton's fault.

Max is the new kid on the block. he has potential. He has all the hype, especially with a fast car at Red Bull to start with and now has the fastest car. He hasn't win it all yet, zero WC, some would say that's on par with say a Maldonado. But Sterling Moss, Jacky Ickx and even Villeneuve never won a WC, they are still considered a great driver. Winning a WC is as much having a great car AND possess the driving skills. He really needs one to be considered as a really great driver and not just a great driver.

Around the grid, there are so many 'great' drivers coming up the ranks together with Max. Unlike Max, those other young guns aren't blessed with a great car. Yet. This is the group of drivers that Max needed to be beat fair and square in order to be consider as really great. If he win the championship this year, he would be beating Hamilton in a great car to get it, who is one of the GOAT, if not THE GOAT. Up there with Hill, Villeneuve winning one while beating Schumacher to get it.

I am not sure if Max is mentally tough enough to survive for next year if he loses to Hamilton this year. Not likely but there is always the chance. We assumed the Mercedes and the Red Bulls will still be the quickest even with the 2022 rule change. We have watched F1 for long enough that it isn't always the case. It's how Alonso's wining steak at Renault ends when the outlawed the all conquering mass dampers. Same thing with Vettel's Red Bull run of 4 straight championships. Didn't help when Vettel departed to Ferrari right after and Reualt's engine wasn't up to par.

Hamilton HAD the skills and reflexes. But he is not getting any younger. Kids coming up will always have better reflexes for car control. The group of 'kids' all grew up together and raced together. Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Albon, Max, and even Ocon and Gasly. given them all Hamilton's Mercedes and they probably gonna spit out just about the same lap times anywhere. For the next 5-10 years, we are going to be in for some great racing among them. Right now Max seems to be the most advanced, but he also has the fastest car. If one look at driver performance according to the car they are stuck with, in that regards, arguably Russell would be the best, following by Norris and then perhaps Leclerc and then Max. Red Bull built their car around how Max drives a car, hence why he is performing so well. Russell's Williams is universally accepted as a back marker, yet he routinely gets into Q3 now, over achieving by a mile. McLaren aren't considered head and shoulder above 'best of the rest', yet Norris is showing that he can extract quite a bit out of the Mclaren to be competitive. Leclerc is piloting the decent Ferrari to have decently great results. Even Ocon going head to head with 2 time champion Alonso is showing he is a fast driver. Gasly in the secondary Red Bull car is also performing well, perhaps if the primary Red Bull car isn't that biased towards Max's style, he might have performed better, same with Albon.

Regardless, Red Bull is all in on Max this year, and Max is all in for this year's championship. I have already penciled in for Max to win this year. I am looking forward to 2022. I have a feeling that Norris could be the Champion for 2022. With Russell coming in a close 2nd in a Mercedes. Max might be 3rd or 4th behind Leclerc in the Ferrari, as I feel like Red Bull would over commit to 2021 on their budget in order to win and sacrifice 2022. Yes, I can see Hamilton finishing behind all these young guns, he is getting old after all. Might even retires after 2022. Heck, if he lucked out and win this year, I don't see him continuing for 2022. Wining #8 is nice, but sharing 7 isn't the worst there is. He holds just about every other records anyways.

Using Christian Horner's logic, Mercedes should pay for the damage for Latifi's crash since Hamilton was riiiiiight there when Latifi crashed.

More Horner, he gone full elementary school tattletale mode to Masi.

Hamilton found basically 0.4 second in his last lap to get this close, which his teammate Bottas couldn't.

It will an interesting start tomorrow, Max on pole on the outside and Hamilton on the inside line. Max can basically ignore Bottas bending him as he is rubbish on starts, so he can sole focus on cutting to the inside to cut off Hamilton without fear of Bottas coming up from the outside.

Would Max and Hamilton touch going into turn 1? Would Max risk not finishing the race in front of his home crowd?

Verstappen unaware of DRS failure on Dutch GP pole lap

This makes sense. RB was alot faster in FPs/Q1/Q2 than Mercedes.
