SchließenCurious what people think about the 400Z prototype shown yesterday. I feel like they missed a chance to be more like the older Z's (240, 280, 300) I loved so much as a kid. It's low brow for this board but I had high hopes for at least the looks of this car. Very disappointed in it.
I think it’s much better looking than the current version and if they keep the price close to current car (starts at $30k), then I’d consider one for a Daily...

4trac:I'm actually glad they didn't succumb to the retro trend. If their market is still younger, most of these buyers have no history of the original Z, so makes sense to look more contemporary.
The weird thing is that it IS retro, but it incorporates styling elements of every Z generation (which is a pretty strange idea)

Building for export is not the equivalent as building for the local market. The largest markets for Porsche, as an example, are the United States and China. The other marques exhibit similar sales profiles. If you have a grievance with this simple fact, take it up with your unelected bureaucrats in Brussels.

No. US and China may be bigger markets but only because they have much higher population, Germany alone bought 2x the number of Porsches than the US per population, and that is just one European country. Same with Ferrari, etc. Nissan 240 not making it to Europe has nothing to do with it, there are many japanese models that never make it to the european market and its been like that before the EU even existed, same for american models.
And as far as I know we can still drive sportscars in Europe and in the foreseeable future, and with a much bigger sportscar tradition than any other part of the world, hence the most high end and prestigious sportscar manufacturers are European, there is great roads to drive them on, even some unrestricted highways, and most of the iconic tracks. If you have grievance with this fact take it up with... well tough 
Not going to defend the "elected" idiot burocrats in EU who are clamping down on noise and emissions, I'm right with you on that, but what you said is comical especially coming from the US, the land of left lane overweight people movers and Teslas, and you can bet that if the GT3 goes turbo because of emissions regulations in the future forvexample, you wont be getting an NA version just for the US market, same with all the other sportscar manufacturers.

Whilst the States has an obesity problem with its population, there still remains a sizable percentage of the population that is among the fittest in the world. We also have an exceptional healthcare system that draws patients from all over the globe, but you already knew that.
Returning to automobiles, the United States will have normally aspirated engines available in the marketplace well after sales of such prime movers are no longer available in the EU.

Not all that long ago, US speedometers only went up to 136 kph (85mph). 
Not exactly the good old days!

The regulation for the 85 mph was set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 1979 during the dark days of the Carter Presidency. That era was punctuated with high inflation and low economic growth or stagnation. That ridiculous regulation was rescinded by 1981 under the Reagan Administration. However, it took years for the U.S. auto industry to respond. That, of course, was during the nadir of the U.S. auto industry.

CGX car nut:Base car is allegedly $40,000. However, the performance model looks like the one to get with a real manual transmission.
Actually there are rumors that the base Z will only be $35k (but maybe they'll bump it higher given the current automotive climate). But even $40k is less than Supra ($43k) and should be better than Supra in almost all the ways that matter to me.
There will also be a higher performing (and more expensive) NISMO version coming soon:
