    Moser:

Guys, I hope all is well.  Does anyone know of a trusted aftermarket parts store for Mclaren parts? I need a new front panel and front splitter for a 2015 650S, due to a small fender bender on the track....Thanks

    Moser

I have bought some 720S stuff from the guy below, he's called Daniel. There was some negativity about him in the UK MOC but I bought a genuine CF rear spoiler and a Senna steering wheel with no problems. I would pay by credit card then you have good protection, and ask him for a deal he was very receptive to get the business for me Smiley

I've had a look and it seems to be the place with the most parts, anyone have any experience with an aftermarket makers of parts?  I will leave ebay as a last resort lol

    Thanks will check him out....

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Insurance won't pay cause of track damage, and quote was insane for splitter it was like 12k $, for a plastic one, and an aftermarket carbon fiber one was about 5k....

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Wow, that's nuts. I suspect there are several on line vendors including dealers that may sell it much cheaper.

My dealer quoted me $850 for my RS front splitter and Grant of this site directed me to another dealer who was selling it for $299. I showed my dealer that price and he gave that price to me which included installation.kiss

I bought some 720S stuff from the company in the link below, I think they make the CF for a lot of the re-sellers, the quality of the stuff I got was good.

They seem to communicate via Whatsapp, I have a contact if you want to open discussion for a quote, Message me and I'll share it if you want ?

Since the GT3X no longer complies with the GT3 rulebook, you're not going to see this machine in competition, and you can't take it on the road, either. Instead, they would be able to show up to high-end track days around the world.

I couldn’t agree with more. McLaren is shooting itself in the foot. I have often considered buying one but decided against doing so because of their huge depreciation.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

The huge depreciation could also be a chance: Getting a 720S at a very attractive price with low mileage isn't impossible anymore. Smiley You can get a 720S under 230k EUR right now...with under 10k km. There are even cars under 200k EUR but not sure if these offers are OK or not.

"BMW and Audi in bidding war for McLaren" (Car magazine)

    (14 November 2021)

► Audi and BMW vying for McLaren assets
► BMW wants the supercar division
► Audi keen on Formula 1 team too

McLaren, the legendary Formula 1 team and supercar maker, is an acquisition target for both BMW and Audi.

BMW is reportedly focused on acquiring McLaren Automotive, the maker of cars including the Senna, 765LT and upcoming hybrid Artura. It would sit nicely in the company’s stable of British brands alongside Rolls-Royce and Mini.

Audi, meanwhile, wants the supercar business as well as the F1 team. Audi’s owner Volkswagen Group continually circles the pinnacle of motor racing, with both its Porsche and Audi brands periodically tipped to join the series.

Is McLaren vulnerable to a takeover?

McLaren has suffered a torrid time due to Covid-19. The Automotive division recorded a £222.9million operating loss in 2020, a swing from £91.1m profit in 2019. Last year, sales crashed by 64 per cent to 1659 cars.

McLaren had to make some 1200 redundancies, about a quarter of the workforce. And the group has been involved in a critical refinancing, selling the Woking HQ and leasing it back, and issuing £550m of new shares to provide liquidity and pay off a £150m loan.

The situation has improved in 2021, with revenue doubling in the first half of the year. However McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt (below) stood down in late October. His Track25 strategy, which proposed the launch of 18 new models in a six-year timeframe, is now up in the air.

Two former Volkswagen Group executives – both appointed McLaren Group non-executive directors in early October – will steer Automotive for an interim period. They are former Porsche CEO Michael Macht, who will run the technical and operations side, and Stefan Jacoby, who also worked at GM and Mitsubishi.

Talks with BMW said to be looming

Behind the scenes, mediators, brokers and agents have been busy examining options, assessing values, establishing strategies and evaluating risks and opportunities. A key player is Mumtalakat, the Bahrain state investment fund which owns about 42 per cent of McLaren. Reportedly Mumtalakat will have its first, on-the-record meeting with BMW in early December.

BMW has had ties with McLaren since providing the iconic F1 supercar’s V12 in the ‘90s. A few years back, the two companies had talks about McLaren collaborating on a mid-engined supercar for Munich, but the project never got off the ground.

For BMW, acquiring McLaren would kick the door to supercar heaven wide open. And BMW could do with a new sports car plan, because the cupboard is bare. The M8 is an overweight GT, the Z4 wouldn’t exist without Toyota and brand-shaping halo cars like Z8 or i8 are history.

Tag on to McLaren, however, and BMW would get instant access to a fresh line-up of potentially class-leading supercars and hypercars. Insiders claim that the engineering and design work needed to spin-off BMWs from McLarens is feasible, and the budget risks marginal. BMW would be confident of assisting development of McLaren’s high-performance hybrid drivetrain, given it’s making the next M5 an excessively-powered plug-in hybrid.

It’s a mouth-watering proposition: a bunch of mid-engined BMW-McLarens to take on AMG-Aston Martin and Porsche/Audi/Lamborghini. It’s not clear whether BMW will go all-in for the F1 team too: it withdrew from the sport in 2009, in the midst of the Great Financial Crisis.

    How would Audi benefit?

According to those in the know, Audi is bidding for McLaren Cars and for the F1 unit, said to be worth around £1 billion. Jörg Astalosch, 49, is the designated chief liaison officer in the Audi-McLaren talks. Previously in charge of Ital Design (also an Audi satellite), the former confidant of Ferdinand Piech started his new job in October.

The new FIA regulations for 2026 are soon to be officially announced, which is expected to trigger Volkswagen Group’s official application to enter the series – run by Stefano Domenicali, former Lamborghini CEO. Adam Baker went the other way: from the FIA to VW Group to run its motorsports programmes.

Audi and Porsche are likely to fuse the F1 R&D work while retaining different set-ups and visual identities. One scenario suggests that Audi/McLaren will partner with Porsche/Red Bull to fight Ferrari and Mercedes in the upcoming hybrid/sustainable fuels era.

This could be a profitable enterprise for Audi and Volkswagen Group. Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius revealed last year that the AMG Petronas F1 commitment creates an annual media value of $1.5bn - and rising. Since Audi has pulled out of DTM and Formula E, the return on investment looks potentially sound.

But surely VW has too many sports car brands?

Rumours suggest Volkswagen Group has considered divesting brands including Lamborghini and Ducati; CAR’s Georg Kacher broke the story of Bugatti being spun-off to Croatian EV pioneer Rimac. So why bid for McLaren?

While the F1 connection is self-explanatory, an Ingolstadt source revealed, there are logical reasons to acquire McLaren Automotive. One is defensive: to block rivals from Korea or China – Geely reportedly was in talks with McLaren Cars last year – or arch-rival BMW.

In the long run McLaren could end up in sync with Bentley and Lambo to boost synergy effects in a profitable but increasingly volatile market. And in a single decade, McLaren has raced from nowhere to matching Ferrari and Lamborghini in ability and desirability – and there are admirers within the group who fancy driving it forward themselves.

It's not the first time BMW and VW Group have gone head-to-head for a blue-chip British car maker. In the late '90s both sought the then-combined Rolls-Royce and Bentley – with BMW ultimately getting the Spirit of Ecstasy and VW the Winged B.

"Audi buys McLaren Group to secure Formula 1 entry" (Autocar)

    (15 November 2021)

Autocar source reports that Audi has purchased the McLaren Group, safeguarding the future of the British supercar brand...

Audi has bought McLaren in a deal that gives the German manufacturer complete control over the whole group and secures it an entry into Formula 1, Autocar understands.

The change of ownership should secure the future of McLaren, which has been operating under heavy financial pressures despite an injection of capital late last year following a refinancing worth up to £500 million. It is unclear whether the latest development is linked to the recent departure of McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, who stepped down from his role after eight years last month.

The takeover gives Audi access to another supercar brand alongside Lamborghini, which it controls. It also opens up the possibility of Audi engines powering McLarens, plus it gives the manufacturer control of highly rated McLaren Applied, the arm of the group that specialises in electrification systems for both road and track.

It is unclear what the implications of any Audi-McLaren tie-up would be on the now-finalised partnership between Rimac and Bugatti, which has been devised with the aim of developing all-electric successors to the Nevera EV hypercar and the soon-to-be-retired Bugatti Chiron.

An Audi spokesperson had no official comment to add at this stage and McLaren has yet to respond to Autocar's request for comment.

From an F1 point of view, the deal ensures the Volkswagen Group, which owns Audi, now has direct access to an entry into grand prix racing. Volkswagen has been involved in discussions over the specification of a new F1 powertrain due for introduction mid-decade and has been openly considering a commitment to the pinnacle of motorsport.

The deal does not necessarily close the door on a Porsche entry to F1, either. The Audi sibling brand is also considering a return to F1, as new motorsport boss Thomas Laudenbach told Autocar recently.

It is thought the most likely route for Porsche into F1 would be as a powertrain partner to an existing team, with Red Bull – which is currently building its own independent powertrain department in Milton Keynes – considered to be the most likely option for such a deal.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

It would seems McLaren turned down the initial offer from VAG and wanted double the price. VAG came back with a better deal and it was accepted.

Like all corporate mergers, deals are denied until all parties involved are ready to make the announcement.

BMW came up short again in their conquest of British brands. Losing to VAG again like they did with the old Rolls Royce/Bentley company.

Could they came out of it with the McLaren name instead like last time?

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

McLaren is still denying there is a deal

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

When there is smoke there is fire is the old saying.

I supposed Mercedes isn't too happy about the development, if indeed VAG did purchased McLaren, then their engine secrets could be glimpsed by VAG, even when there will be new engine formula soon.

I also don't see the point of VAG acquiring the road car side of business. Do they have anything to gain? Everything McLaren made has been based on the original MP4-12C platform, which is 10 years old now. While they are still unbelievably good, the days of non-hybrids are numbered. Their incoming hybrid, Artura is not going to be enough to sustain their business.

Many argued that their cars are on 'different' platforms, well no. Everything starts off with the basic 12C tub, and modified as needed to build other stuff onto it. They haven't had a 'all new' grounds up' tub yet.

Aston Martin was another car maker in trouble as they stuck with the same platform for a long time, maybe too long. Their VH platform was very good and flexible, but time moves on, constantly.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I think that McLaren Automotive would have been more useful to BMW than VAG.

In the case of the VW Group McLaren's added value will be small given that Porsche and Lamborghini cover VAG very well.

McLaren Formula 1 Team  is different. BMW have been in and out of F1 racing and surely they wouldn't want to be involved again. OTOH the VW Group would like to try F1, Porsche wish to supply engines and thus McLaren offers a ready solution to both.

The prospect of a Porsche powered McLaren F1 car excites me as it brings back memories of those golden years almost 40 years ago with my favourite team, engine supplier and drivers winning 3 drivers' and 2 constructors' titles.

I think this is the core of the challenge, the McLaren car business fits best with BMW and the F1 team is of most interest to VAG.  However you cant really separate the two.

Didn't VAG realign Lamborghini's future development roadmap to the Porsche roadmap recently?  That move would open a path for Audi to use McLaren road cars division as a technology carrier for the brand, as Lamborghini did in that role for a couple of decades.

Aston-Martin, unfortunately, remains the dead man walking in any scenario.  That's disappointing as the manufacturing processes of the company are a technological delight.
