    Rennlist

Guys how many of you are on Rennlist if i may ask? Is it worth signing up? Seems very US centric but don’t want to pre-judge. Thoughts?

    Re: Rennlist

I have been for as long as RennTeam, but I am USA-centric as well.

    Re: Rennlist

I was the 386th user to sign up and really enjoyed it in the early 2000s whilst I played with my 993, it is now at 262K users, now days they have 5000 people online at peak times across al forums.

It is US centric but there are knowledgeable people posting on most models, the older model forums are pretty slow now days, like a lot of forums these days people very interested in depreciation/appreciation.

I was there in the early 2000's but became too US centric and too time consuming to follow because of the heavy traffic.

I was on it 20 years ago and off and on for technical info now and then.  Not like here though which is more like friends hanging out in the garage.

    Re: Rennlist

Moved definitely  from Rennlist to Rennteam around 2007 .

    I go back very seldom.

good infos but hard to follow all the topics and very US orientated.

Rennlist = Group think and sheeple

Rennteam = Individual thinker and sceptic

It is like Rennteam but without RC. Hence pretty much useless.

    Re: Rennlist

I checked it out a long time ago (since it's US based) but it didn't feel quite like Rennteam. Not to be sappy but there's a sense of community here that's hard to come by.

    Re: Rennlist

Used to use it a lot when I had my 964, there was a large community of enthusiasts and very knowledgable people.  I enjoyed it then.  Also when I got my GT3 - was handy for finding pics of colours etc.  Too many threads about specs, leasing and best optioning for 'investment potential' now though..

    Re: Rennlist

Been on it for a long time, but it doesn't feel like a community.  Just information sharing and lots of talk about residual values of different models...

I will say I do enjoy Mooty's posts, but follow him on IG now so Rennlist isn't as important Smiley

    Re: Rennlist

Believe it or not, I signed up there first, then not long after, here.

There was a point in time I spent just about equal time on both sites. I even start a giant thread on my 918 journey there, documenting everything. But that was the turning point. With the 918 thread I. was in touch of quite a few 918 owners that has questions and stuff but dude to privacy issues they didn't want to admit in 'public' they have one. Another member there suggested to me about a private FB group and we literally moved all the 918 content to the private group. A good chunk of the Rennlist members showed their displeasure about 'us' moving away from them. Resentment follows. got even worse when they found out us 918 owners automatically gets 911R allocations.

As the admin of that group, with over 100 members and 120 or so 918s, we, as owners, have a pretty sgood ay to Porsche about our wishes. After all, we gave Porsche over $120 mil in revenue just from the 918 alone, another $40 mil from the 911Rs, and not counting the other 5, 10, 20, 60 Porsches in the garage. I dnd't buy everything after the 918 but I think they still got over 2 millions from me after the 918 and counting, like, another 400k from a couple cars incoming at least. I would not be kidding by saying there should be about a billion dollar worth of Porsche among the members' collections. Outside of PCA, Porsche Club of America, there isn't another Porsche 'club' with cars worth more.

The spirit of that site has changed. During the 997 days, or basically pre-918 days, everyone is all focused on cars, helpful to each other about stuff, group buys this group buy that, meet here, meet there. After the 918, what everyone there cared for is depreciation, appreciation. PTS colours. How to get PTS on GT3, etc.

Didn't help that a couple of hardcore Tesla trolls keep harping about how great Tesla was and how bad Porsche sucks.

I have a few memorable moment there. One was during my 997 days there, had a local meet with guys here and a few from Seattle area, we still friends. Another one was a Rennsport Reunion 2011 meet at Laguna Seca. Made even more friends.  3rd was my 918 thread. I literally documented everything from ordering to delivery to living with one. 2nd most read thread there after the CGT thread in the sub-section. Another one was about a flame war with someone from McLaren, on the 918 vs P1, and then the LaFerrari debate. He didn't wanted to admit it but someone somewhere found out he was working for Mclaren marketing. Facts, times, common sense, reasoning all do not apply to him in his 'arguments'. best was about the Ring record 918 car. He claims that car is 'stock' and the time shouldn't be valid, and that car is 'a lot' lighter' than shipping cars. Despite computer equipments, heavier Recaro race seats vs standard 918 seats in the car. His argument even include a 'one piece' roof instead of the split 2 piece roof on the 918 as his counter point. Doing math with him on acceleration time was entertaining. Think he blew a few gaskets when MotorTrend tested the 918 be faster than the P1 at Laguna Seca. Quite a few of the guys at MT are friends of mine. Randy Pobst is also a friend and he is a great driver. David Donohue was a friend also and he literally drove the test car from Atlanta to Monterey for the test. And drove it all the way back to Atlanta after. On the day of the test Porsche had a few guys there, checked the tire pressure and then off it goes for Randy. Went out in the morning and did one session, out, flying, in. Lap Record. Done. McLaren has a team that rivals their F1 support crew. Went out, came back, adjust, out again, back, adjust, out again, etc. Literally spent all day adjusting and can't even come close. In the aftermath, one MT guy whose name shall remains secret, was especially savage recalling that event. I wasn't there that day, but I have heard the exact same thing from Randy, David, and 3 others that were present, but I heard a completely different version from my McLaren contact, think he was from Mars. Anyways, the Rennlist McLaren guy's excuse? Porsche sent a special ringer car. trick rubber. Specially tuned engine. You name it.

    Re: Rennlist

From my limited and local experience I can say that I went through something similar (obviously at a different scale), when Porsche switched to 991 from 997. Again, locally, all the 997 owners were nice one to each other and the chats were pretty technical. The Porsche club was a fine place to be.

After 991 start selling the “demographic” changed dramatically. Basically 95% people that bought the cars as a status symbol and a lot of them because didn’t had the guts to get a Ferrari (social image issues/grey money area). Some of them they didn’t understand the rear engine placement. They kept saying that it’s like a mid engine Ferrari but because of the boxer engine being smaller, Porsche had room to add two more seats in the back mail

Some of them also didn’t know there is a “frunk”. They just found out yes

Usually I don’t even tell these stories because they are really hard to believe but somehow Whoopsy’s post startled me.

And don’t get me started on the wannabe “pilots” owning a 991… Most of them with zero track experience. Those are really a danger in traffic.

    Re: Rennlist

Ive been a Rennlist member 20 years with almost 15,000 posts. I havent posted there for years. No real reason but when I started on the 993 board it seemed like my lounge and by the time I left for the 991 GT3 board it felt like a large auditorium. Now it seems like a giant stadium!

The other one I used to frequent more often was Pistonheads Porsche GT thread. But the UK guys have all become cafe cruisers with discussions on options for resale and prices. There are only a handful of guys there there days that actually drive their cars...Tim knows what I mean...

I'm looking at 3 places for Porsche news .... Rennlist .... a German one called PFF (Porsche Fan Forum with 70.000 members) .... and here of course.

It became pretty quiet here compared to the other two .... it started to became quiet when the main person here stopped buying Porsches smiley

It started to become quiet here about Porsche news when people got more worried about protecting there sources then spreading confidential infos. angry
