Makes it look like a Ferrari seatback .

Is that meant to be a recommendation, then?

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

Next thing to discuss is the Wheel Caps with Colored Crest. I like it. Especially on black/black with red calipser.

A little bit kidding. I think these things are to much personal taste to discuss it seriously. But anyway it's interesting to hear your opinions.

I have them and like them and I consider them a good value ( couple hundred bucks ) as far as Porsche dress up options go ( remember the 996 $700 footwell lighting option ?- $1 of bulbs and $1 of switchgear and $698 for Herr Wiedeking's year end bonus check ) .

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

This is the white man's blingbling.
This is a thick gold chain for the Europeans.
This is mexican hydraulics for affluent bankers.
This is what you would do on a Peugeot 205 Rallye.
This is too much on a Porsche IMO.

The crests are beautiful, no doubt, but like someone here said; Less is more.
Hopefully you know what car you drive, and so do the passengers.
I'd rather debadge the whole car and let those who know..know. And keep the rest guessing.

I never understood why cars have model insignia on the back/front. What's it for other than show-off?
    ASAIK nobody walks to their car and says..."Ah! That's right. I have a Volvo 850 GL...now I remember" :?

But taste is taste...and if it blows your skirt off, I say go for it!

No offense to Ferrari but F-cars have badges all over them and rightly so. If I owned one I would probably be putting F-stickers all over it. It's great, it's outrageous, it's red (preferably), it's a natural overstatement.

Porsche on the otherhand is supposed to be a "everyday" practical daily driver, it's styling is elegant but understated; so there's something annoying about repeated announcements of what it is.

    just my 2 cents (USD)

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

This thread is a bit hilarious, as my grandfather would say, "you guys spend too much time trying to pick the fly sh** out of the pepper!!"

$220 bucks on a $80K car, big zippity whippety deal... I see it as quite innocuous and subtle either way, hardly anything you could define as garish or over-the-top.

"No options, NEIN!!! You vill drive bare bones Porsche and you vill like it!!!!" (I'm picturing Mike Myer's Dieter character from Sprockets).

Why worry about two little embossments, when there are aero kits being installed on 997's as I type???

Sometimes the small detail is what you pay attention to the most and on an $80K car, I think you want what you think will be a perfect purchase. The cost is no big deal obviously. For me, during my order, the colored wheel crest drove me crazy for about a couple of months (it's less than $200) more than any other option. I kept it and I'm very happy that I did.

Because we're just like chicks discussing the new fantastic beauty cremes. You know the ones with the latest miracle ingredients that real scientists discovered. Like 997 Aero kits, major cosmetic surgery is too exhausting to discuss on a routine basis

Agreed.......There have been less negative comments about some of the other more significant "attachments" that have been discussed here. I won't even discusss some of the questionable colors combos we have seen here. Yet this little crest has caused quite a colorful discussion. Maybe Porsche should offer a delete front hood crest option along with the rear model delete option. Then we can all be stealthy and nobody will know we are driving a Porsche.

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

How about a $10K credit for "purists" who don't want to be flamboyant, where Porsche will body their 911 in '74 VW Beetle sheetmetal?? The original tooling is still in Mexico....

I don't like gaudy things anymore than anyone else, but I really don't think any of this qualifies. Even the Carrera badge on the rear bonnet looks tasteful and appropriate and classic to me. Besides, how many times do you see a guy exiting his slate-gray Porsche, with black interior, wearing a shirt that says "Hugo Boss" all over it, while his wife climbs out the other side with her Louis Vuitton purse in-tow??

You want garish?? You should have seen the Violet Metallic '86 Turbo, with white interior with WHITE carpet and purple piping that was a trade-in at my Porsche dealer last year!!!! LOL... Now THERE was a piece of work!! Maybe Prince was the original owner??

    Bingo!
People should actuually get a deduction for each promotion item added to the car. Good point, Ben!

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

Watch out, you go to far with that "fairness" logic and it'll work both ways, where goofy-looking people will have to pay a "brand-devaluation" tax for being seen in a Porsche!!

Fortunately, I would never have to worry about such a fee...(shameless self-adoration )

    I hear you.
I'm actually in the middle of a lawsuit against Porsche - I simply look to good in their car NOT to get paid a Schumacher-fee for promoting a car that looks so yesterday compared to myself.
But then again - the sheer uglyness of the car I stooped to purchase from them underlines my superb physique and the contrast helps portraying me as even more superhuman than I am.

Yes, a proclamation such as this may stink in the ears of common folk, but it's the truth. Maybe if you work hard and learn to love yourself to perfection...maybe you may lick my car..someday.

Just curious: what do yout think about the Scuderia Ferrari shields (extra at any Ferrari except CS and Enzo)?

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

Car licking???? You guys were right. Seat embossments ARE a bad idea, look what they lead to!!! Online solicitations for licking........

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

A little off topic, but coincidentaly just saw that now Porsche design is selling bathroom faucets through Grohe. Very Interesting..... maybe I'll get one and install it on the hood as an ornament

Or maybe i'll go for the vinal seat coverings (like the ones grandma had on her sofa back in the 50's).... That is only if i can get the crests on it

Feel the same way. It's funny people pay for extra manufacture advertising. I don't really even like the shields on my CS and they were "free". I mean come on, are people really not going to know you're driving a Ferrari or Porsche (it's about others really since those driving don't see all that crap) without making sure logos are placed as prevelantly as possible?

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

I agree with the shields on the 360's.
in the past, the shields were affixed to true ferrari racing vehicles, denoting a "special" vehicle, of which only the cs and the enzo qualify as modern cars.
putting them on a 360 not only detracts from the lines of the car, but are way too gaudy..might I say tacky.

Re: Crest in the Headrest...Good option or Cheese?

But, back to Porsche's (after all, this is a Porsche forum, right?), the 911 has one little innocuous badge on the hood (tradition), the wheel centers (talk about tradition, it's been done on most all cars since the advent of the automobile at the turn of the century), and a tasteful model designation on the rear that you can delete if you're really bothered by it. It's got to be one of the lowest-key sports cars in existance. The crests on the headrests cannot be seen unless the seats are unoccupied, the car is parked, and an onlooker literally has their nose pressed against your window. At that point, whoever's that "stoked" about your car that they're checking out your interior in a parking lot or on the street, probably also digs the subtle crests in the seat. Any way you look at it, it's no big deal. It's like wearing Spongebob underwear, only you and your wife will probably ever know.... I know that in the collector/restoration hobby, it is common that embossments are not present (when they correctly should be) on poorly/cheaply re-upholstered cars, due to a trim or restoration shop not sweating the "details". So for me, the embossment is kind of a throwback to the embossments that are in the original seats of many of my antique collectibles, '57 Thunderbird, '56 Cadillac, etc.... Maybe it's out of place in a Porsche, but I don't care. It's not gaudy, it doesn't reach out and slap you, and it's kind of a "classic" touch that Porsche has kept around. Redundant, yes. Gaudy or promotional?? Naw, not really. Take it or leave it.
