    4 Days & 400 Miles with the McLaren 765LT

Just posted up an article on the 4 days & 400 miles I spent driving a McLaren 765LT

    https://karenable.com/4-days-4-hundred-miles-with-the-epic-mclaren-765lt/

car is truly epic and deserving of the "LT" designation.

    Comments?

Enjoyable real world write up. Lived vicariously. Thanks for sharing.

Re: 4 Days & 400 Miles with the McLaren 765LT

    As usual, great review!

Re: 4 Days & 400 Miles with the McLaren 765LT

Good write up but I wonder what's the point of having so much power and you didn't max it on the highway. I would expect to read something like I drove it at a top speed of  300+ kmh and it didn't try to kill me.

That car was driven on roads in the congested Atlantic Seaboard where, at times, 120 kmh is problematic.  Some of these states are legendary for strict speed limit enforcement.  Just search on, for example, Virginia and speeding.  Here's an article on the consequences from Jalopnik a few years ago.  https://jalopnik.com/never-speed-in-virginia-lessons-from-my-three-days-in-1613604053   There was a movement to increase the speed for reckless driving to 85 mph or 136 kmh. This is reality for many drivers in the States.

Re: 4 Days & 400 Miles with the McLaren 765LT

Switzerland is fine off of the main autoroutes. Also in the alps, speed limits at 80kmh is all you really need on a mountain pass and you can have fun at that level, and take calculated risks going faster, albeit road needs to be sighted as you need to watch out for motor bikes overtaking, mountain bikes to be overtaken, the odd Postbus, and then the tourists in the VW campavans!!!!. And in “my” part of the country, the Wallis, the locals all are completely nuts and very pro cars, so the politicians don’t tend to put up speed cameras to avoid losing popularity…

what Austria has is those private pay to use roads which I think fall outside the jurisdiction of the traffic police?

Re: 4 Days & 400 Miles with the McLaren 765LT

the limits where the driving license is in danger are very high and they didnt changed it with the last traffic law ajustment.

+40km/h in cities means you can go 90km/h
+50km/h outside cities means on A/B Road you can go 150km/h and on the highway 180km/h

The Police stands on A roads and there only on restricted 60/70/80 km/h areas or city entries/exits nearly never on 100km/h A roads and never on B roads. When you get stopped and you are polite then the fine is also acceptable.

On highways there are mobile radar boxes quite often every 50-60km but with an Genovo Radar Detector onboard you don’t have any problems. The fixed boxes are common known and you brake for them. On bridges there are sometimes 3 cameras which detect distance to the car in front and speed but they are visible and also here you can easily reduce speed for them.

I love the driving in Austria. On Highways I do 180km/h with cruise control. Im for shure faster from A to B as in Germany where often 100/120km/h limits are on the highway and you cant get that much over the speed limit as in Austria. In the fun department on B Roads (Landesstraßen) you can go full on.

    Making me homesick for Austria.

How was the car above 150 mph on bumpy2 lane? Did it still have guts in acceleration?  And how was brakinysay -60-90?
