    F1, How does it work?

Is F1 paddle-shift system on the Ferrari's just like a conventional manual transmission except there is no clutch, would you have to give it gas when you go into the first gear or is it similar to an automatic car with "stick shift" mode where u just go in gear and it goes. Also is there a automatic mode?

It's a manual without the third pedal, put 1st gear in and nothing happens, step on the gas and it goes. And yes, there is an automatic mode.

Re: F1, How does it work?

Thanks. Is the E-gear on the Lamborghini's the same as F1 on the Ferrari's?

Basically yes, but I think they have different manufacturers. (F1 = Magneti Marinelli)

Re: F1, How does it work?

Nope. Magneti Marelli is also source for Lambo's e-gear. Transmission is Lambo's design but the rest of e-gear's electrohydraulic, paddle-shifted control mechanism is provided by Magneti Marelli.

    from http://www.toomonline.com/gearboxlinks.htm:
"... and I wonder when Magneti Marelli come up with a well documented site about their technology. After all: they provided the system on Ferrari (355 F1, 360 F1, 575 F1), Alfa Romeo (147 Selespeed, 156 Selespeed), Fiat (Stilo Abarth and Punto), Lancia (Ypsilon), Maserati (Cambiocorsa), Aston Martin Vanquish, BMW (except M3, M4, M5 & M9), Mercedes (including on Sprinter), Renault (Twingo & Clio)"

Re: F1, How does it work?

The trick is in the software, though the supplier is the same, each maker does their own softeware and final tranny setup, and thus some are quicker than others, some smoother, etc. But basic functioning is exactly the same between E-gear and F1.

    Thanks, I didn't know that!

Re: F1, How does it work?

Thanks, now i know how it really works.

Re: F1, How does it work?

basically a computer does all the clutch work, you drive it like an automatic (when its in automatic mode)

or when you want to shift, you get all the joys of double clutched downshifting and lightning fast upshifts without havving to use your left foot.

shifting is done with your fingers. wonderful system. takes a little of the magic out, but for 24/7 perfect downshifts, the ease of an automatic, and the peace of mind knowing its not robbing power, i would say its great for any GT car.

Re: F1, How does it work?

Didn't want to create new topic, so I'll this question here(just curious) - how does LC system on F430 work ?

Re: F1, How does it work?

launch control works by electronically pulsaiting the clutch at a high frequency against the flywheel while making sure the car keeps traction with various sensors.

this ensures the fastest possible takeoff

Re: F1, How does it work?

    Thanks Moogle !
