Are you suggesting that I wear a cap?

    Where's me handbag....

I have to wear a cap - no hair, so the old summit gets cold in the winter and burnt in the summer. Porsche Exclusive do a nice range of handbags, if you are interested.

LOL! Aluminium? Excellent for hand-to-hand combat!

    wtsnet,

That colour combo sounds extremely nice. I look forward to seeing pics when it arrives. The sand beige interior looks fantastic and is a huge step forward from the strange savanah mustard colour that was offered in the 986.

Thanks! Will definitely post pics, but you're all gonna have to wait until April/May. I held off the order to get the rear centre console leathered up. Have only seen that interior with midnight blue (and was smitten, although it's BEIGE!) so I have my fingers crossed until May.

I didn't realise just how good sand beige looked until I saw it on the dealer's launch car in combination with midnight blue. But, by then it was too late to change my spec. The interior colours are a definite improvement, ocean blue looks (to me, anyway) much better than metropole blue did.

    Re: The Joy of Specs

Interestingly, I feel that the 19's make the Brakes look too small, unless going for the PCCB option I would skip the big wheels.

    Re: The Joy of Specs

I agree dreamcar. Porsche have toned down the more extreme colours from the 986 and introduced more subtle, tasteful and classier looking colours for the 987. I always hated the ox blood red colour that was Boxster red. Because Porsche insists on colour matching every part of the interior these old colours looked awful IMHO. Sand beige is lovely and I agree that it looks superb against the dark blue/blue hood combination. It also looks great against guards red (see US Boxster launch video).

I was at my dealers on Saturday looking at my new baby. Interestingly they were chokka with new Boxsters due to go out next week. I was looking at one with sand beige interior and the reflections from the top of the dash into the windscreen were extremely distracting. It left me with one conclusion - for all practical reasons, go for a dark interior!

Hi Dreamcar, I have been following your Porsche story (and that of some other Boardmembers such as Newboxster...) and I must say it reads like a Good Book because we are all Porsche Enthusiasts with the same vision when it comes down to THE NEW BOXSTER !! Now for you and many other British Members it's nearly DRIVING TIME, I wish you and the others Good Luck with your New Baby's and please post some pictures asap, ENJOY

    Hi Freak 2
Thanks very much for your message, yes the time is now very close! In 4 days time I will be out for the very first time driving my new Boxster. I've waited for six years as I ordered one of the first 2.5's which I had to cancel due to reasons beyond my control. I then briefly had a Honda S2000 which was a big mistake. I drove the latest version last summer and I still don't like it. It seemed a good idea at the time as it was an awful lot less money than a Boxster - I soon found out why! Trouble is, once you've driven a Porsche nothing else is quite the same! Once I've driven it for a few days I will make a first impressions post, but I guess I won't be the only one doing it!

    Re: The Joy of Specs

    Guys,

    2 points here.

You MUST order your Boxster with automatic climate control. This option is cheap. To leave it off WILL damage your resale value by more than the cost of the option when the car is being ordered. 986s without climate look dreadful, have you seen their interiors? Horrid. A nasty row of dials on the dash that look like something from a Ford Escort from the 80s.

Climate isn't about "oh, I have a convertible, I'll put the hood down if it's warm outside". Oh no, it keeps the cabin at a constant temperature on your behalf whatever the weather (and you will normally have the hood up, well you do in the UK), you don't need to manually adjust it all the time. It is the single most important comfort related feature a car can have. Simple as that. You would be mad not to spec it for Pounds385.

Secondly.....don't get sand beige leather. It is repulsive. It is the same colour as butterscotch. And vomit. It is utterly putrid. Don't put it on your lovely 987, please.

    Re: The Joy of Specs

I think it is totally unncessary to go for climate as it looks the same as the panel with climate( unlike the 986)- only the 'AUTO' button is replaced. I have climate in all my other cars and I still need to adjust temperature, air direction, fan speed etc maunually to suit my need, To set it at a cretain temperature simply can't do for me. So What is the point of paying a mere 385? There is many more useful option than this one and I do not think people choose a used Boxster upon a climate upgrade..

Sand beige do look good, and I did not spec it because it will get dirty too easily, especially the steering and gear knob is also the same colour!!

    Re: The Joy of Specs

Mr Senna, I understand your concerns, but I think your criticism is a little harsh. The 987 sand beige is different to the 986 beige I think, and all cars get air-con. I just don't want to splash out on upping that to full climate control. A lot of people choose not to uprate the standard fit speakers, it just depends on your priorities.

A light colour interior is going to show the dirt more, agreed, but at least you can tell when it needs cleaning!

Good to hear some negative opinions though, thanks guys.

Don't you believe it - I probably have the roof down 70% of the time. Hey, if you don't need an Ark then the roof should be down....

    Re: The Joy of Specs

I got Auto Air Con on a 987 I dint have a chance to spec. Have to say I wouldnt have ordered it but now I have it. Wasnt going to get heated seats but now I have them!
