    Re: Bugatti Chiron

Rimac and Bugatti completes business combination.  Note that Porsche maintains a majority position through its 45% position in the new entity and its 24% position in Rimac.

Bugatti and Rimac hypercar firms complete merger

Newly formed Bugatti Rimac LLC is headquartered in Croatia, but Bugatti will retain French factory

The long-mooted partnership between Bugatti and EV technology specialist Rimac Automobili has come into effect, with the marged Bugatti Rimac LCC company officially being incorporated.

The new company is 45% owned by Porsche and 55% owned by the newly formed Rimac Group, in which Rimac founder Mate Rimac retains a 37% shareholding, Porsche 24%, Hyundai Motor Group 12% and various other investors the remaining 27%.

Bugatti Rimac is headquartered in Croatia, with Mate Rimac serving as CEO and former Bugatti director general Christophe Piochon appointed chief operating offier.

Porsche chairman Oliver Blume and deputy chairman Lutz Meschke will both serve as supervisory board members for the new joint venture.

Rimac said that he was “honored to be leading this new fusion of automotive minds and begin what will no doubt be a successful, revolutionary and exciting new chapter for everyone involved".

He added: "I am also extremely curious to oversee the profound impact Bugatti Rimac will have on the industry, and I look forward to developing innovative new hypercars and technologies.”

Rimac’s powertrain, battery and components development arm will be separated out into a new, dedicated Rimac Technology division, which is part of the Rimac Group but remains independent and will continue to work with other manufacturers.

Bugatti and Rimac will remain separate brands, retaining their respective current French and Croatian production facilities. However, from 2023, the newly formed company will be based at the new Rimac Campus on the outskirts of Zagreb, which will employ 2500 people.

From launch, the company employs some 430 people: around 300 in Zagreb and 130 in Molsheim. Rimac said that "joint research and development" of future Rimac and Bugatti will eventually take place at the campus.

The move has significant implications for future models from the two firms – particularly Bugatti, which will gain access to Rimac’s high-output electric drivetrain technology as a potential replacement for its long-standing W16 petrol engine in the coming years.

Rimac will continue to build and develop its own models following the impending launch of its Nevera flagship, while Bugatti will initially continue to build and market its Chiron hypercar.

Porsche chairman Oliver Blume explained the potential mutual benefits of the partnership: “We're combining Bugatti’s strong expertise in the hypercar business with Rimac’s tremendous innovative strength in the highly promising field of electric mobility.

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

Is this good for the brand Bugatti? In an other article I read that there are "only" 40 Bugatti's left to produce.

+1. I’m certainly not the target.

More like battery powered EVs, no matter the performance or price tag, is still an disposable item. It can be hyper expensive but it's still disposable as the tech inside is outdated fast, VERY fast.

Remember the Vertu cell phones? They are nothing more than outdated Nokias dressed up nicely with a giant price tag. Pretty much the same as the current hyper expensive EVs. There isn't even collector value in them.

They still sold quite a bit, but it's only to people that wanted to show off. Same deal with people buying million + EVs. It's just a 'for the moment' show off item.

For Rimac at least selling cars is only a side gig, they have their engineering consulting side of the business.

I still like the Chiron, but the last quality I like about the car is the performance. I have been to the factory, watched the craftsman at work, seen first hand the materials used and the effort spent to create the absolute best in fit and finish.

A Chiron is like a Patek Philippe tourbillon watch. The very best from the best manufacturer.

Agreed, and a battery powered Bugatti is like a Quartz Patek, lacking the complex movements.

I believe Bugatti/Rimac mentioned before that the Chiron successor will be a hybrid, not an EV.

    It's still bad.

The only quartz watches I ever had were Swatch. But at least I bought a System 51 Swatch to make up for that.

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

While technically this is quite an impressive achievement. I cannot see how pushing it like that on a public road is a safe choice.

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

think he had the yellow turbo as a spotter in front of him.

but fully agree....this should not be done on public road...one is free to harm himself if one has such tendencies but the responsibility towards others should make you refrain from stunts like that.

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

This guy is laughable, especially his racing stuff))) but being serious, no way he could react even 300 km/h car in front of him, so a very high risk to tranform from fat czech to flat one...

    Enmanuel:

While technically this is quite an impressive achievement. I cannot see how pushing it like that on a public road is a safe choice.

Agreed. In the past, I was doing 340-350 kph on public roads (only when there were no cars to pass) but lately, even at speeds of slightly over 300 kph, I am much more careful and scared.

A friend of mine drove over 320 kph in his car last year and passed a few cars, when suddenly a car changed the lane right in front of him. He told me he doesn't know how he did it but he switched lanes in a fraction of a second and passed that car (now on the left lane where he was driving before) on the right lane (where the other car was before). He didn't even think. He missed the other car by a centimeter or so, actually he stopped later on to see if he didn't touch him because it was super close. Now he is only passing other cars at higher speeds if there is one car only (I do that all the time) and keeps his speed under 300 kph, he is too scared to drive faster.

He was driving with his lights on (not only daytime running lights) and that other car still moved to his lane. Crazy.

At these speeds, it is almost impossible to react and at over 400 kph, 100% impossible.

An experienced driver with brains would have hit the brakes latest here in the video:

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

if we're going to comment on the fact that these speeds shouldn't be done on the public (derestricted) highway, we might as well join the discussion that these cars shouldn't exist at all, or at least that their top speed should be restricted. These are not speeds you can achieve on a racetrack unless you're going to rent Nardo for a weekend, so their potential is de facto one to be exercised on the Autobahn, no?

    Re: Bugatti Chiron

Unfortunately no, because of the great risk to kill someone. If you have 4 mil euro for a car, rent any old airfield, go salt lake or nardo (maybe VW should make Ehra Lessien track days))

You are right of course but I think that people should be responsible when doing these speeds on the Autobahn and sometimes, I'm not sure they are.
