    2023 GT1

    https://www.motor1.com/news/520330/porsche-gt1-hypercar-rumors/

    Is my dream coming true?

How do I make a deposit for one? Any connection to the factory?  I inquired Porsche Korea this morning and they have no idea.

    Re: 2023 GT1

Rear vis a little problematic, no? Why not put a proper window on it? And pls if true, great, but NO four cylinder!!!

    Re: 2023 GT1

I have some issues with this article:

LMDh cars are based on a new LMP2 chassis that must come from one of  4 "official" producers.

Porsche has chosen Multimatic (Canadian) as their chassis provider.

Why would Porsche build a road car based on a non-Porsche chassis?

Also- it's strongly suspected that the engine used for the LMDh car will be twin-turbo V8. Also suspected to come from  the Cayenne.

Why would a very "Woke" Porsche build a new halo car using an old ICU?

So if the chassis of the LMDh car is unlikely to be used , and the engine is out of the question, how exactly would a new halo car be based on the LMDh car?

At most, the supposed new halo car may have some design queues taken from the LMDh car....maybe.

    Re: 2023 GT1

Porsche needs a new super car. The 918 is great but it's been around for awhile.

Fwiw, the cayman and boxster look a but frumpy now and I hope they have a more modern looking replacement in the works.

    Re: 2023 GT1

Why not a tuned flat six turbo over the heavier V8 twin turbo. Dont get me wrong, love my Cayenne turbo but cant imagine the engine is the best option on a performance vs weight basis. Still would lovento see a flat eight with low center of gravity but i guess i am a dinosaur. I still think the 718 GT4 looks great BTW. I saw two today around the greater Goodwood area and they just look right

I assume you are referring  to the use of the V8 turbo for the LMDh car.

The regulations for the LMDh cars restricts the engine's minimum weight to 165Kg. That is exceptionally heavy for a racing engine. This was supposed to encourage some manufacturers to use their existent super and hyper car's engines to come to the class. This was to help with the cost cutting.

The minimum weight for the LMDh cars is also 1030Kg . (Not exactly light by racing standards)

Because this is now a BoP class, torque is the name of the game. V8 twin turbo is good!!

Also-  I suspect that this new "halo car", might just be the actual LMDh which is planned to have its roll out by the end of this year.

    Re: 2023 GT1

165kg is actually not that bad. For comparison the V8 in the 918 is 135kg. The VAG corporate twinn turbo 4.0L V8 is closer to 200kg fully dressed.

    Re: 2023 GT1

It is for a prototype . A pure racing engine would be around 90-100Kg

    Re: 2023 GT1

So it seems that Porsche US has denied the rumor and no immediate plans for one, but I think Porsche needs to build a GT1 based on the new Le Mans hypercar.

    Re: 2023 GT1

    So my suspicions were correct.

Please note that the new prototype Porsche is in the LMDh class and not in the LMh class, so basically only the engine and body is Porsche.

Yeah, good call on that but that is disappointing nonetheless.

Not at all surprising since Volkswagen Group, and probably Porsche, have developed its final internal combustion engines.  It's EVs from now on out and getting approval of a business case for a new engine for a limited production vehicle is for naught.

Whether Porsche will develop a new GT car engine with ICE is dependent on what happens with future racing regulations (don't think we know yet if this is the last ICE or not)...

2030, 2035 is literally just around the corner. Most governments around have stated they don't want normal cars anymore, they only want EVs.

Porsche doesn't just live for racing, it's not the the Ferrari of old where he sell road cars to finance the racing. Yes they do excel at racing, but the money sunk into racing aren't wasted, knowledge learned are transferred back to their road cars. Even the halo cars are a test bed for stuff that will go into their road cars.

If they won't be making engines anymore after 2030, there isn't an incentive there to do them for just for racing.

For racing purposes, they still have some excellent engines lying around that can be reused. If the regulations suits them.

Porsche would not be experimenting with Synthetic Fuels if they were halting all ICE development.....IMO

    +1

ICE's (Synthetic Fuels) will continue as a niche elitist product. Very expensive (Taxed to kingdom come) in the future. To buy and run...IMO
