Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

Mike, the real question here as I see it, is "what can you gain from breaking it in the alternative way?"
If you just bought a 200 bhp Audi, I could see you might have something to gain by doing so, but youre playing with the warranty of a 500 K car - and lets face it, so what if it gains another 30 BHP? Unless youre already a pro racecar driver I should think 612 BHP would be quite satifactory to begin with.

Risk versus gain. It's a nobrainer IMO.
I have no clue if the factory break-in prucedure is better or worse than this guys, and perhaps the car manufacturers have a secret, evil plan behind the breaking-in procedure. But IMO what's important here is; would you toy with a CGT to find out if this guy is right or not?

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

    mike

love the CGT. congrats! i just wish they had of made it into a Right Hand Drive so we could drive it here in Australia on the road. Seen one on the track at Phillip island though.

could you do me a favour.....drive it through a fast food drive thru...and get some one to take a pic! That would be a classic photo!

Carrera_GTcrazy, sir, are you sure? Depending on the exposure and lighting of the photographs, it can look like Fayence, but it looks closer to Signal Yellow don't you think?

    Maverick is quite correct.

Here's a shot of Signal Yellow original to the time in which it was popular ('68-'72):

Re: How to Break-in a CGT?

NASCAR technique is similar to Motoman, but they use old heads on a new motor to break it in, then qualifying and raceday they use new heads. They claim more HP and quicker revs from breaking in a new race engine with old heads instead of new ones.

Porsches suggested street customer motor break in technique is probably 180 degrees from how they do race engines.
I would suggest calling up Andial in california and getting their advice. They have built more race engines for Porsche's factory race cars than anybody else.

Porsche's break in advice for street customers probably has more to do with a first time Porsche owner getting used to the car then actual optimal engine break in.

    Good luck !

Re: How to Break-in a CGT?

Mike - Congrats! I've been waiting for a long time on your behalf too

If you choose an unauthorized break-in procedure, I'd recommend against posting that decision online, just so there's no reason for PNA to disclaim any warranty liability...

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

WOW! Congratulations! What an amazing car! I love the colour. Enjoy...

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

Mike, when I first saw the Boxster picture...you really had me.

Wow, what a beauty, you must be driving it all the day now. I hope you're still able to read this, you're a very lucky guy (not to forget about the hard work of course ), enjoy your new baby (and I know you'll do) and drive carefully.

Just can't wait to hear your driving impressions after you drove it for a while. And of course...MORE pictures, I enjoy every single one.

Good colour choice, I also like the red calipers (of course this is PCCB...did I win a ride with you in your CGT now? ).

I'm so happy for you, Mike.

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

    Beautiful!! Congrats, Mike!!

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

Simply MAGNIFICIENT!!! Does your face hurt from the constant smile?

Re: After a few years, .. IT'S HERE!

Congratulation ... good choice for the calipers.
About the breaking-in process, take it easy as recommended by the car maker. Whom to believe : a guy with 200 engines experience or a car makers with millions (all brands are recommended the same process) ?
The b-i process is not only the rings against the cylinders walls, it's also the gearbox, the brakes, the clutch ...
I have race bikes, if you hard drive the first km's you will kill elements like brake pads, discs, clutch ... and if you are engineer, you will understand that everywhere in the powertrain, there are tolerences. These tolerances are sometimes antagonists extreme ... and can create a pike of friction, causing a deformation of the material sometime not elastic. Take it easy ... and have fun. My opinion is also that amount of performance, you can drive not so fast and fast a lot of fun.

I don't know. It might be a little early, depending on what I decide to do about the break-in technique.

I am extremely interested in an unusual method that goes against the owners' manual recommendations. Click here and tell me what you guys think.

Hey, im going to Mid Ohio this spring/early summmer

if you wouldnt mind when you figure out what date and class you are going to post it or PM me because i think it would be awesome to actually see a carrera GT running!

but only if you would like to of course

good luck and be careful with that awesome car!!! have fun

Re: How to Break-in a CGT?

Mike JD's CGT had well it still has 27 miles on it.
It may NEVER get broken in.

Hmmmm, ... I wonder why mine had 50 miles (almost double) on it when it came off the transporter?

I guess it depends what was done with it at Leipzig (I hope it all occurred at Leipzig ).

    Re: Almost 2X delivery miles?

Congratulations on your car...well "car" is not the proper word to describe your new purchase...its a piece of machinery .....
You could post some audio clips,,,,ignition and some revs .It will be a blast to hear the v10 engine instead of our six flat engines

    Re: Almost 2X delivery miles?

Signal Yellow is a bit like Caterpillar Yellow. You should see it on a 3550 hp mining truck! Not as fast as a CGT, but it WILL pull a load!

    Cheers,

A shot in the dark: Perhaps after hearing about some of the initial cars having difficult and/or defective clutches and the threat of a drop in demand, Porsche decided to add some extra test-miles to more thoroughly evaluate each clutch before shipment. Now, if only we could convince them to: 1) Add an inch to the CGT ground clearance 2) Stop threatening the voiding of warranties at PCA-sponsered events and 3) Issuing 6-year, 100,000 mile warranties for the flywheel seal (RMS) and ISS problems...
Or are we asking too much of Porsche?
