I suspect that RS will be offloaded quickly if Nick decides to get it. A street legal race car which has a roof and never sees the track will not be much fun in the long run in sunny California.

You know what? I think the perfect car for Nick would be a R8 V10 Spider, an Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster or something like that. In sunny California (well, it isn't always sunny Smiley), a Cab or a Roadster make a lot of sense. I just don't see Nick driving around in San Diego or to the beach in a GT3 RS with that huge wing. Smiley

San Diego isn't always sunny, but almost always perfect temperature (around 72F).  I don't like hot/humid weather like you do...

But I do agree with your suggested cars for Nick.  Maybe DB-11 convertible?

i would love it if they have a rear wing delete - would be soooooo tempted.

what are the chances of that?

On the RS? Pretty much zero.

GT3 wing delete option is/was(?) under consideration but may not happen for marketing reasons. Technically, no problem, the new 991 R proves that. Let's hope that Porsche is customer friendly.

I would have paid good money for a 991.1 GTS Cab, the Porsche I drive now, with GT3 tech (chassis, brake, engine, etc.). Apparently, Porsche doesn't want my money. Smiley The 991 R was tempting but manual and the fact that I already have a 911 kind of made no sense for me.

2017 PORSCHE 911 GT3 TESTING WITH MANUAL GEARBOX

    (18 July 2016)

Even before the launch of the Porsche 911 R earlier this year, rumours were abound that the Porsche 991.2 GT3 would get a manual gearbox option as a response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback to the Cayman GT4.

The word on the grapevine grew even louder in the wake of the 991 R release (complete with an all new six-speed shifter) and now, our latest spy shots seem to all but confirm that the 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 will come with the option of a stick shift and a left leg workout.

Spied while out testing on the road, Total 911's avid spy photographer was able to get a look inside the next 911 GT3 while the test mule was at rest. Rather than keep Porsche's transmission secrets hidden, the extensive shrouding only helped to confirm the rumours.

The manual gear lever was completely hidden from view however, the Gen2 steering wheel was noticeably bereft of the paddle shift levers seen on the PDK-equipped prototypes also in attendance during the test, while the tachometer's gear indicator was conspicuous by its absence.

Away from the transmission mysteries, the redline on the rev counter can just be made out at the 8,800rpm mark, heavily suggesting that the Porsche 991.2 GT3 will come equipped with the GT3 RS 4.0-litre, 500hp flat six (a move which further strengthens the manual gearbox rumours thanks to the 911 R association).

Styling wise, this latest test mule gave little away about the next 911 GT3, although a leaked computer render from Porsche Netherlands last week suggested that the new car will get only minor tweaks, including the new 3D-style rear lights, upgraded PCM and a Cayman GT4-esque front bumper.

That Rennlist thread that I posted earlier (that suggested issues with the 2014 and 2015 E & F engines, but cleared the 2016 GT3, RS, and 911R  G engines) has now concluded that the G engines will eventually fail as well.  I sure hope Whoopsy is correct that the 991.2 GT3 has totally solved this with its new oiling system:

I enjoyed my 991 GT3 (2015) but hitting 9K in the car always reminded me of James Bond's winning streak at the baccarat table: "Well, this sort of thing can't last".  Upon which he passes the shoe and leaves with the girl.

Has anyone heard any additional clues as to what will happen with GT3.2?

Manual transmission as an option seems to well confirmed.

What about the engine?  NA or Turbo?

and is the Wing Delete just a wishful thinking, or are there any rumors?

Will this be the Porsche R for a broader audience??

Our resident experts here have said to expect 4.0L NA motor at 500hp (like RS and R), but with most recent developments included, aimed to improve longevity from even better oiling than those models.  Wing delete seems unlikely (but unknown).

Wing delete was a possible option but lately, I heard that it won't come for this generation because it could offend 911 R owners. Also, apparently a second 911 R model variant (Speedster?) is in the planning, so this could be another reason.

991.2 GT3 engine will be n/a, no turbo for now.

Also, there will be a price increase for the GT.2 models...how much, I don't know.
