    2004 GT3

I am second on the list at the local porsche dealer for the new GT3. I just got the order guide for the car. They mention a "thicker steering wheel". Does anyone know what that is?. It seems that there are virtually no performance options for the car. Almost everything mentioned in the guide is cosmetic.

    Re: 2004 GT3

It is listed in the Order Guide. Check out closely

    Thick Steering

    Option CPZ $675.00 USD (NT)

    NT = No Text

    Re: 2004 GT3

Not sure what "performance" options are left on a car like the GT3. Obviously, some people are disappointed about not getting the Club Sport option but I don't think anyone really expected it, given the stupid DOT regulations in this country. Likewise for the GT3 racing seats, which will have to be added through the aftermarket. Look for lots of takeout GT3 Sport Seats on ebay in the near future, as I'm sure most GT3 owners will do this upgrade.

They are offering the ceramic brakes, making the GT3 the only non-turbo car they are offered on. Other than offering some additional weight savings with AC and stereo delete options, I'm not sure what else they could have done. There is no power kit for the GT3 engine as far as I know.

What else would you like to see?

Karl - Acutally, the C4S gets PCCB option too - but from everything I know, this is a downgrade, not an upgrade (and an expensive one at that).

As for GT3 performance upgrades/options, here would've been my wish list:

    1. 3.8L Powerkit (I still think this may be forthcoming)
    2. Lightweight single-mass flywheel
    3. A/C and Radio delete options
    4. Carbon-fibre or aluminum front trunk cover, engine cover and door skins
    5. Sport brake pads
    6. Oil Temp gauge
    7. Alcantra seats and interior (instead of leather/plastic)
    8. Power window delete
    9. Lightweight inside door panels (ala 73RS)

    Re: 2004 GT3

    Not bad Grant!
I wouldn't mind seeing these options on a GT3 too...
Unfortunately I don't see this coming.
I would be happy just to see the GT3 weight unchanged from the previous model, but I guess this also is unrealistic...

Is this a real available option on a 996?

    Re: 2004 GT3

    Grant,

This is a good list and most of what you want could be made available from the GT3 Cup parts list. However, certain items like the lightweight doors would probably not pass Federal crash standards and therefore could not be offered on a street car.

It seems PCNA is giving us two choices. If you want a track-only, light weight car, order a GT3 Cup. If you want a car based on the same chassis and drivetrain but with the "creature comforts" most street drivers will demand, get the GT3. Unfortunately, due again to Federal DOT standards, we can't get the car that falls between these two, the GT3 Club Sport.

I was happy to see that there was no PCM option or multitude of stereo upgrades available for the GT3. This reaffirms Porsche's intention to make this a serious drivers car only and one that many people probably won't be happy with as a daily driver.
