    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

In certain colors, the twin nostrils don’t look too bad.  The real crisis are the rear quarter panels on the 4-series and M4. They lack any sinewy elements and appear effeminate.

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

I like it. It reminds me the Mazda Mx5 Abarth. Some say that they use the Z4 chassis for this one.

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

what on earth are they doing....and have been doing for years now....

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

Interior is nice - the rest is just fugly. I think they have killed this car.

Doesn't look great, but at least they spared us from the M3/M4 grille...

A saving grace.  That M3/M4 grille looks even worse in person, as though an anteater got its nose chopped off with a machete.

The U.S. market, at least, gets only the 8-speed ZF automatic with the 6 cylinder, which is an excellent torque converter transmission, but it is no PDK, nor 6MT.  I believe the U.S. B58 has to be paired with X drive, you no longer get RWD as the basic driveline.

It's also going to be built in Mexico instead of Leipzig, also unwanted, as far as I'm concerned.  I'm not crazy about the digital horseshoe tach and speedo, I much preferred the round, edge lit analog gages on the F22/F82 series.

Maybe the M2 will be better, at least with a proper 6 MT, we can hope.

I really like the new M240i, maybe enough to go for one.

Excellent car, I drove one for a couple of hours. It looks so much better in person, beautiful.

German dealer had an excellent lease offer, 499 EUR per month, no initial payment, 10k km per year (36 months), car worth 57k EUR (after discount). It is unbelievable that BMW still has good offers, while you can barely get a Mercedes. Smiley

A friend wanted to get an A35 AMG (not even the 45) and his Mercedes dealer asked almost 900 EUR for a lease, a car worth 65k EUR. Insane. Other AMG models? Almost impossible to get for a low lease rate and if you want to buy one, some of the more popular AMG models go for a premium between 15k and 50k EUR. Ouch. Smiley

If they offered me that lease today in USD I'd sign the dotted line 100%

Not sure how the sentiments are ni Germany or the rest of Europe, but in the Netherlands, 20 years ago every young guy wanted a sporty BMW. Then 10 years ago, this shifted to Audi, as BMW got a bad image (sorry if I sound racist, but too many immigrants driving around in lowered 3-series with too many exhaust pipes and fake grilles and M-badges). Now, whilst Audi is still held in high regard, they are also seen as the ultimate drugdealers cars, as there is a lot of drug gang related crime here, and these guys seem to always drive fast Audis. So, when Mercedes started creatig all these sporty looking models 5 years ago, it was only natural that the interested shifted to them a bit.

Is this the same in Germany? It might explain things a bit... Smiley

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

The main problem here are insurance rates. Young people here in Germany still love BMW but insurance rates have skyrocketed for models which are popular with younger people.

Take my son's BMW 320d xDrive (G20). His insurance rate is 1900 EUR per year. The insurance rate of my BMW Z4 M40i (G29) is 1800 EUR per year. Both cars can be driven by both kids.

I enquired the insurance rate for a BMW 330d or 340d or 330/340i and for the M240i xDrive. Basically double of the above insurance rates but even worse: My insurance wouldn't even provide insurance for my kids because these cars are too powerful for them. They refuse it.

Tried to put my son on my Trackhawk's insurance...it would have been bumped up to 3700 EUR a year (from now 1800). It would have worked though.

Bottom line is: I think many cars cannot be insured, this is why younger people drive certain models, even if these models aren't necessarily less powerful. Insurances here are evaluating accident figures and if a certain car gets in an accident in a certain age group too often...well... Smiley

Speaking of prices: My Lambo dealer told me that I could sell my Performante for the same money I paid for it (254k EUR), maybe even more. My car is from April 2019 and has 15000 km on it. Sweet.

Your sons rate is double what I pay for the turbo, the tesla and my wife’s Honda SUV.  Ouch. Curious what it would have cost for him in a base model3 in Germany.  I know he would hate it. Just curious.
Good news on the Labo!!  Sounds like time for a trade?  Don’t do it.

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

The problem with my son and my Z4 is: I have the Trackhawk and the Lambo insured at my personal insurance rate, with a huge discount (I pay only 2300 EUR per year for the Lambo because I had no accident for 37 years) but the 320d and the Z4 are basically NEW insurance contracts with zero discount and this is what makes them so expensive.

We have a complicated system here...the longer you have no accident, the more your insurance rate drops (you get a specific discount every year).

    Re: BMW M2 Rumors

Insurances work all with statistics and probabilities.
A Ferrari F8 Tributo is cheaper to insure over here then a Macan Turbo.
For some one at the lowest rate it will be 2100 chf for the F and 2500 for the P.  Full cover.

The Z4 M40 and the 240, 340 have all the same engine.

I can buy the car at a fixed price once the lease ends. If I am interested. Of course I will buy it...and keep it...or sell it at a profit. Right now I don't know yet but I will very likely keep it. Never been that much in love with a sports car, it is perfect for me. Smiley
