    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

    RC,
I am new here, really like your information thanks.
I have 2003 tt 19's,springs,tubi,on the list for 997 tt.
should I buy new 997 tt or go for the ecu upgrade and keep my car which I like very much? any chance the 997 tt will be lighter than the 996 tt? MSRP of 997 tt more than MSRP of 996 turbo S ?what do you think?

Has anyone an idea if the C4 and C4S will be scheduled as coupé and cabrio at the same time?

The latest rumour indicates that the C4 (not C4 S) will be a widebody car and that a possible C4S comes later and probably with a mild power increase, maybe with the powerkit engine.
So the planning should look like this:
Carrera 4 with 355 HP (widebody)
    Carrera 4 S with 380 HP (widebody).

This autumn, the Carrera 4 is expected with a wide body and 355 HP. Again: this is not official information, just a rumour.

what about C4 (with or without S) cabrio?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

with what philosophy should the carrera 4 come widebodied??

    What is the thinking?

I think that these are just rumors-once again.

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Porsche changed the whole nomenclature system with the current standard width body 997 C2 and C2S.
The 993 C2S and C4S had turbo bodies sans wings with standard base engines . Same on the 996 C4S ( there was no 996 C2S ) . What body width they use for a 997 ROW C4 and 997 ROW/US C4S is anybody's guess since the "S" now seems to stand for stronger engine but not wider body, the opposite of prev two generations.

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Actually the last two gens is who changed the nomenclature, "stronger engine" is what the "S" initially stood for, beginning in the 60's into the 70's with the 911S before the turbo or turbo-look even existed. They just recently (late 90's) associated S with widebody turbo-look for the first time though in some models only (S still stood for higher output engine in the 993/996 Turbo S for example).

Thats why they just followed tradition when naming the the higher output and performance 997 carrera the "997 Carrera S", since the S does not necesarily imply widebody, but rather upgraded engine traditionally. So who knows now with all this change what the 997C4S will be, a widebody or a 3.8l engine? probably both IMO. But the standard Carrera4 being a widebody with a 3.6l? that would be pathetic

My point was that they have flip-flopped the meaning of the " S " if you go back 35 years. I guess they'll have to bring back the old " turbo-look " option as last used in the 80s- then will it be avail on the 3.6 and 3.8s or only the latter ?
I doubt it will be a Turbo only body style as the option is a big $$ maker .

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

True, I see what you mean, "turbo-look" has a derogartory connotation I think now, probably just offer 3.8l and widebody in the C4S, but who knows

Compared to the 80s , today, with 500- 600 hp " family sedans ", something called " turbo-look " on the 911 option sheet might as well be called " poser -look ".

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Thanks for the info RC. I was wondering: have you heard anything about the 997 Targa that was apparently spotted undergoing tests not too long ago? Will there be a glass roof version of the 997?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

It is definitely coming. In Q3 or Q4 2006, as 2WD and 4WD, and as standard and S.

    /looking forward to getting a Targa 4S

    Targa 4S???
THAT would be a first! Are you Sure?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Does anybody know when the Turbo will be launched?

    NOT THE 997 but the 998 !!!

You see i wann be the first who buys it, so i want to give the order now )

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

A Targa 4S is a great idea. Porsche has to offer the Targa top on it's exciting and sportier models, just as it does with the cabrio. It actually makes more sense since the Targa is a stiffer vehicle.

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

i got info about the new turbo!!!!!

It will be 598 HP !!!!! and the turbo S coming 2007 (summer) will have 622 HP aint this amazing???

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Just kiding of course!!! got you!

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

    not really...Dilenger...no one beleived you.

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

I place today a pre order on a 997 c4s..but not knowing exactly when it will be available. The dealer said they might have the demo cars in october , first deliveries in december, but, again, not sure if it would be 997 c4, or 997 c4s

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

UNOFFICIAL information says that the F430 is faster than the ultimate GT2 (Le Castellet track), so 400 hp for the GT3 and 490 for the Turbo will not be little?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

about the new turbos specs, uve got to be kidding me! only 450hp thats about as much as last yrs damnit! if they are going to keep awd and add more weight than the last 996 porsche is going to have a very hard time staying on top of the sports car heap with the 500hp Corvette Z06 coming out. wtf was porsche thinking?! are they only aware of what is going on in germany?! it better have at least 500hp or im going to be seriously pissed at the arrogant pricks at porsche management for not realizing what the competition is doing. and it better sound a hell of a lot better than that blow dryer noise i heard in that video.

You could have said also: some really desperate Ferrari fans hope that the F430 might not suck on the track vs. the old GT2

Honestly, you do not believe this nonsense you quoted?

I couldn't agree more! The Targa may have been "undersold" by Porsche so far. Just imagine how nice a 996 4S targa would have looked...

    (2006) 997 Turbo 3,8 Liter 490 PS

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4(S), 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Will Porsche build a 997 Turbo Cabrio? If so, when would it be released?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

I hope that the new gt3 will do better than 405 hp. 24 hp more than the actual model on higher revs do not really make a difference. and probably the car will gain some weight once again, which makes the performance difference even smaller. IMO the engine should be boosted to 3.8 with approx. 420 hp. that would certainly be technically possible (see KORO-tuning).

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

405 hp from a 3.6 Litre engine is amazing, and I personally believe the car will be amazing.
Yes maybe a bit heavier, but by all means not by much.
PCCB mk2 will make it possible this time for track day enthousiast to get the option so the car will fly with the advantage of less non-suspended mass.
24 hp more than the previous model is in line with Porsche philosophy, it's been done in the past.
You will tell me that the Turbo gets almost 80 hp more compared to the outgoing model, but IMHO it's different, as RC has written before, the Turbo is a flagship model, it is targeting a very different type of costumer than the GT3.
For the potential Turbo costumer, hp sells.
So it makes sense that it has to align itself to the current competition who are all around 500 hp. I personally believe that the GT3 will be the more rewarding to drive (as always).
If you ask any 996 GT3 and 360 Stradale on the forum why they bought their car, I am absolutely confident that HP is not the primary reason.
F430 has almost 80 hp more than the Stradale and yet, I bet you Stradale owners will not switch, same for GT3 owners with respect to the 996 Turbo S.
    Just my opinion Turbolite.
By the way, I like your nickname, everyone's dream, a 1350 kgs 996 Turbo!

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

I certainly agree in principle with what you say, Gt3 customers and turbo ones are a different kind and probably wouldnt switch. nonetheless one should compare the gt3 to other alternatives in the market and i think competition is not sleeping. a new m3csl with 425 hp and sporttires and smg at 75% of the price of a gt3 is not uninteresting IMO. I wouldnt buy one, but some people certainly could find it an valid alternative. therefore I think a little extra-power couldnt harm, even for gt3 enthusiasts.
ps: given that i cant save weight on my turbo, I'll try to loose some myself and go to the gym right now! cheers

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Do you have a good link for pictures of 997 turbo?

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4S, 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

GT Purely Porsche mentions in current issue.

GT3 and Trubo to be presented possible in September before 2006

GT3 said to have 20 more HP than 996

Turbo 500 HP DSG plus Ceramics as standard.

    Cetified by GTPP.

To each his own (beliefs) i guess

    Re: Time Schedule - 997 C4(S), 997 Turbo, 997 GT3

Does somebody know something new on the subject?

I agree with both of you guys!

But nevertheless, it's long ago since talked about this "happening" of the new models. Please let us keep it goinig on.

I can't wait to hear more and detailed infos.

RC, do you have any news about the future revelations of other future models?

    Thanks for keep going on.
