    Re: 612 hp....

Well, this is life, Robbie. People are never fully satisfied.

I agree with you, power isn't everything. And neither the E 55 nor the SL 55 or the new CL 65 AMG are real sports cars compared to the Porsche 911. But for the Autobahn, the new Mercedes models are great. And most people see a track from a far distance only...if they see it at all.
I don't understand why Porsche seems to ignore the power war which started. I mean c'mon Porsche, you put 450 HP in a truck but "only" 381 HP in a race car like the GT3? No wonder people go for Mercedes. Porsche has to understand that not all customers are interested in details like handling or weight as we are. So they see on one side 420 HP and on the other side for the same money 500 HP. Now guess which car they buy?!
The new Carrera GT underpowered? Well, yes and no. It offers great performance but for a car in that price range, it should have 700 HP minimum. You'll be surprised about the upcoming Mercedes SLR which will put not only the CGT but also the Enzo to the shame. Well, it won't be a Porsche and it won't be a Ferrari but it probably will kick ass. And this is what counts...power and reputation. I wouldn't be surprised to see even 700 HP and more on the upcoming SLR.

I'm sorry Christian, but I strongly disagree with this statement.
To me it is a great thing that Porsche doesn't manufacture cars for this type of customers, someone that wants to maximize horsepower per dollar has never and I hope never will look to Porsche.
Saying that you justify someone buying a CL 600 over a Turbo just because it has more power is really putting to shame all the work that has benn done at Weissach to make this car corner so well, brake with such stability and promptness, the carefully studied aerodynamic, basically making such a better product!

You used the GT3 as an example, I for instance applaud it so much, to me it is really a joy to finally see Porsche breaking the 100 hp/litre mark for a production normally aspirated engine. It's a sports car, and the power output is only one part of the whole that will make the car so fast.

    Re: 612 hp....

I totally agree with Robbie and Luigi, it's not all about power.
I hope Porsche and Ferrari don't follow MB.

    Re: da capo!

    i 100% agree luigi

merc is paranoid! -- but neary ANY big manufacturer can build a V12, force it to breath thru a twin turbo, get 600+ HP from it and then let the traction control and ESP do the working but there's no point actually IMO.

    Re: 612 hp....

i think MB now launching those large hp cars maybe affected by chrysler. probably u guys in US market, hp is more important than a car's handling. that's why MB want to build more large hp cars to satify US market.

    Luigi,

I 100% agree. Let's see if the Thread "Sports Car with only 205HP" can proof that it's not all about horse power.

    Cheers

I agree, Thomas! My 73 911S had only 190HP and was more of

    a sports car than my 320HP 996...

PS: This is why I have been busy (check the pic)
I know Christian would disagree but to me this is the Porsche of laptop, less than 5% of the market but great style and performances, hahaha!!! Plus the iPod is the coolest toy I have ever seen.
And since I know nothing about computer, might as well go for something different.
Will post movies soon with iMovie
    Surfing with safari right now
Sorry guys, completely off topic but I am like a kid
