You probably have to look at it in person. Red is one of the more difficult colors for cameras and displays to reproduce. Lots of times it looks more orange than red.

point taken vtrader, i suppose you are right, the outside pic does look a bit orange, but the guages look terribly undercolored.
im a big fan of the colored gauges, but i am afraid they may get to be an eyesore after the initial 'ahhh' factor wears off.
i wonder how the challenege stradale's yellow / red tachameter feels.
i wish porsche did this on the GT models (made the rev counter a different , yellow/red colour !... hmm

Love the 911 in Guards Red. Just ordered my 'S'. May build, June delivery. Summer fun.
A Guards Red 911 is not the right car for business around here. But I loved the color so much that I went for it anyways. The car will never see the company garage. But as someone told me, it is not the color that people have a problem with, it is the image of a Porsche 911. Red just makes it more obvious.

Does anyone know how thick the clear coat on guards red paint job is? Is it any different than the other metalic paints that Porsche offers? Also, what would be the difference in hardness and durability of the solid colors (compared to metallic colors) against stone chips and scratches on the 997/997S?

My dealer has a guards red S in.
At first I thought maybe I wanted black until I saw the red. In the flesh it looks so much better than the online images I have seen. They really do it no justice.
Apparently red cars are selling well. The dealer told me that the 996 in red is not his favourite and not the easiest colour to move on. He believes that red will be making a comeback on the 997 however.
So as it stands, red will be the colour I chose when I finally have to specify my car. Just need to see it with an aerokit now to know what it will look like. (The advantage of being in the UK mean, that since placing my order all the options will have become available for the time I finally have to spec my car!! Although the 12 month wait is somewhat of a disadvantage!!)
