Great video.  Thank you for sharing but still not up to Tesla quality as it lacks any flatulence soundtrack.

Well, the Motor Trend test results indicate that the Model S Plaid accelerates faster to 60 mph than it brakes from that speed.  This is probably the only car where braking is inferior to accelerative forces.  Many cars have braking systems capable of generating up to four times the amount of horsepower than the output of the engine-not Tesla.   So much for any safety margin.

We back to the 60s muscle cars days. At least this time around Tesla has better brakes than those Mustangs and Camaros.

Still can't go around corners though, somethings never changes.

Re: Welcome to the new Taycan Forum!

So I have gotten my Whistler place for like 7-8 years now.

Never really paid attention attention before but today I just noticed the whole neighbourhood is just about rid of Teslas. In their place, Taycans. Guess the change over happened during last year.

Before, there was maybe 7-8 Teslas of various models in the driveways, don't paid much attention to them. But just as it happens I was looking today and noticed all the Teslas are gone. Like gone. Drivesways that had Teslas before all now have Taycans parked there.

Now this is not your typical 'hood'. The last 4 transactions were all over CAD$5 mill. These guys have disposable 'disposable' income.

That sort of confirms my deduction before that Taycans doesn't compete direction against any Teslas. They just take over the top of the food chain. People that can afford it will go for the better more premium product when they have a chance, and they did with the launch of the Taycan.

I suppose these Taycans will last there until Rolls Royce or Bentley makes EVs.

I was in for the annual service last week and caught up with the head of a UK-based Porsche dealer. Interestingly, they said that over the past year the Porsche Taycan has overtaken the Macan as their biggest seller by number of new cars sold. Apparently some customers may be waiting for the next Macan facelift later this year, but impressive to hear that Taycan is currently their best seller! Smiley

I would expect Audi e-tron GT volumes to be strong, which is also good news for the overall Taycan platform! Smiley

Re: Welcome to the new Taycan Forum!

The Taycan 4S is popular in our region, with three in my immediate neighborhood alone. Quite striking and unusual looking visually. But I am continually reminded of my conversation with a Porsche marketing executive at the Taycan debut in Geneva where he said “ We would not be here if not for Tesla.”

I see tons of them in my neighborhood as well. The other day I saw three in a row followed by four new 992s. Then four Range Rovers.  Nice mix around here. The money is being spent.
Also saw a new Plaid model s roaming my street already.

Re: Welcome to the new Taycan Forum!

I went to a Taycan event sponsored by my dealer and run by the team from Porsche NA in Atlanta.  Just drove the base RWD model, but was overall rather impressed.  Definitely liked it more overall than friend's Model 3 Performance (except the Tesla was much faster).

And they are smart enough to realize the top end of the EV segment is untapped.

It used to be a Tesla monopoly, doesn't matter one's net worth, if one wants a EV Tesla was the only choice.

With the launch of the Taycan, the EV segment instantly expanded from like $40k-1$00k range that Tesla aim for to $200k-$250k. And that also created room for the Mercedes EVs, Audi's etc.

Personally I find the new Tesla model S much more compelling than any Taycan or any of the upcoming lux alternatives including the hideous looking Merc s-class ev. I've had many Porsches and driving a Panamera Turbo right now, but just ordered a Model s plaid after having driven my buds Model S (the old 2020 model)

When I speak with friends many have the same reasoning. Porsche (non sports cars) and other German brands is starting to feel a bit dull and this includes the Taycan. But I think this can be an age thing. Old farts are probably more stuck with the old and gold. My friends who most are sub 40 seems to be more towards Tesla than the german alternative which seems a bit too sterile and boring. But each to his own I guess.

Re: Welcome to the new Taycan Forum!

Well, let's see how representative your view is. The Model S ought to be selling well based on your observations of your own view and the views of your "buddies". So, let's look at the largest car market in Europe, Germany (where you are based (albeit in Switzerland)). How many Tesla Model S were sold there last month? None. May be a glitch, how many were sold between January to May, 2021?...14x Tesla Model S were sold in the first half. A 95% drop in sales compared to the previous year. So how did the Taycan fare then? Well, in May 2021 387x Taycans were sold. It was the top seller in the upmarket segment in Germany in May, 2021. So how many Taycans were sold between January to May, 2021? 1,683 Taycans were sold. A 102% increase in sales.

That's free market at work. Everyone can have their choices. Without the Taycan entering the market, people didn't have a choice. But that doesn't means everyone will move onto the Taycan. Some will chose to stay with Tesla.

This is not unlike those old people who chose to stay with Buicks and Cadillacs even with Mercedes and whatnots on the market.

I wonder if everyone knowing a new model S was coming after 10 years or so of the same model had any impact?  Or maybe because they made none in the last seven months. Or maybe because deliveries just started about a week ago? Nah,  can’t be that.  I would have expected huge Jan to May numbers for a car released in June.
Maybe check in a month or two. Meanwhile look a new Taycan orders following the plaid deliveries to customers.  Or maybe Taycan resale values in a few months.

Do the Taycan and other EVs have lower insurance premiums in BC?

Personally, I would prefer the E-tron RS over the Taycan.

Model 3 is a shorter version of the Model S platform. It is pointless to buy the Model S now since the Model 3 is a good size vehicle, cheaper and perhaps better build. Tesla needs a new premium car to compete with Porsche and Audi.

I had disagreed with the view that German luxury saloons were bought by a very small group of people in the respective market segment when the Taycan (introduced to the German market in December 2019, so has been on the market a fair while) had been a resounding sales success for some time that continues. The Tesla Model S is not exactly a spring chicken and the sales reflect that. It remains to be seen whether the Plaid reverses that trend. That is not say that other Teslas are not selling in Germany, the Model 3 is a sales success in it's segment, selling 2,744 in May, 2021.

Re: Welcome to the new Taycan Forum!

But seriously. They did not build any model s to sell anywhere from Jan to June.  Simply not built. That is the answer to why practically none were sold.
Time will tell if the new model S will sell well in that segment.

Cause no one is buying them in the first place. Why build something that's going to sit on the lot for a long time?

If they had been selling well, Tesla would be kept the line going.

Why even make a comparison when ZERO Model S were produced for Europe (or rest of the world for that matter) since autumn 2020? This has nothing to do with demand. 2021 will be a year when more or less zero Model S and X are delivered in Europe. And all this independent of what I and my buddies believe or think.
