Mmmmmm... I'm not sure if they will stick a 3.4 in the Boxster.
They have positioned the Caymen above the Boxster brand, and I think they will try and keep the seperation by not pushing the Boxster to 3.4.... A 3.4 Boxster would then sit alongside the Caymen...
Anyway what would they call it? We have an S... perhaps a GT... Nar they will leave that kind of thing for the next Caymen

I must say positioning a car only marginally cheaper than a 911 is a gamble for Porsche. I am eagerly awaiting my Boxster S. I chose Boxster S as I wanted the next best thing to a 911, which is odd as I have never driven one and if I did I may think it was crap!!!!!
Having poduct even closer in price holds no attraction for me.
I may be getting what some people will undoubtably argue is a "poor man's Porsche" but it is the best Pounds40K you can spend on a sports car.
The Cayman will really be the stupid man's Porsche (unless it drives better than a 911) and to call it "cayman" even worse.....I'll stick with the entry-entry level.

Can I be controversial here and say maybe, just maybe, the basic 911 is a stupid man's Cayman? I am guessing the latter will be nimbler because of its size and better handling because it is mid engined and as quick because it is lighter? Please! no offence meant to 997 owners!

I love Porsches but I have to say I do not get this one.
By the way, apart from the easy joke of calling the car Gayman, when I think of cocodriles, i do not think of fast agile animals, does anyone? I tend to think of reptiles that move kind of slow. Carrera, well, what can I say...all of you know, its a great name. Boxster, sounds good and like a car's name. Cayenne, sounds more agile than Cayman that's for sure.

I guess this proves that more money does not necessaraly make a company more inteligent or agile in its thinking.

For me 280hp was not enough to trade in my 260hp Boxster S... 295hp is a different story.
I'm convinced that Porsche will come with a 295hp Boxster (cabrio) soon though.

Another posible reason for this Cayman S is to definately kill the base 997 and leave the 997S as the standard 911, so they can charge 10k than wioth the 996 more for the standard 911.

Can someone tell me in a logical way and with facts way this would hurt the 997 sales and Porsche!!!??I'm absoutely sure the Cayman will be a huge success and find new first time Porsche owners. I can't wait to see it and i'm seriously thinking to trade in my Boxster....

I believe this is the main intention, to eliminate the basic 911 when the facelift MKII comes out after the Turbo. Cayman gets 320 and Carrera S (or by then Carrera) 370/375. At least with this kind of HP gap it's justifiable.
