    2004 Porsche GT3 Order Guide (U.S. Only)

Re: 2004 Porsche GT3 Order Guide (U.S. Only)

The Clubsport version isn't offered in the US?

    How depressing

Only four standard colours. A leather cup holder for $300. Less foam in the seat for $700.

Seems like the usual Porsche b.s.

I'm not sure. Answer to that question is for RC

$700 for 10mm less foam pile! I agree with you there Stephen. For those looking for a little more helmet clearance, I suggest asking your dealer what they have in terms of seat brackets. My local Porsche dealer was able to find lowering brackets for a very tall Boxster driver (something like 6'7", way past 2 meters anyway). In the end, he was able to meet the broomstick auto-x rule with the canvas top down and helmet on, for far less than $700.

I don't believe we will get the clubsport option anytime soon, based on past history. The U.S. government isn't very smart sometimes. Please, no insults.

Ok. Too easy a target these days anyway.

Seriously though, I kinda understand the "no clubspot" bit. The car doesn't pass the internal impact rules with it in place. How can you set standards and then ignore them? At least you are allowed to retofit it (in Germany you would not be allowed to retrofit something that didn't comply). And anyone retrofitting it has to be on notice. In the end, you get the same result. So what's the difference?

    Re: How depressing

Fixedwing, I'm not sure I understand your point, are you talking about the front part of the rollcage, that can be retrofitted, because I don't think there should be a problem with the part behind the seats.
But the Clubsport option isn't only about the welded rollcage, actually a very nice feature is that of the single mass flywheel: it improves so much throttle response!

It's strange that there is no reference in the US order guide, since I believe that in Europe there will positively be a Clubsport version on offer.

Is the GT2 available in Clubsport guise in the US?

    Cage

Not sure that the cage is actually welded in. I think even the Clubsport is not a welded cage/roll bar. Certainly the front part is removable.

No doubt, the problem is two-fold. 1) it isn't completely padded everywhere and I believe USA regs require that the interior is fully padded and 2) they would probably need to go through the certification process for just the few cars.

I know that these rules can sometimes be a pain in the ass for the enthusiast. But overall they have saved many lives in the USA over the years. They're basically a good thing.

I completely agree with you about the flywheel and air con delete. Hopefully something can be arranged there. I don't see why it shouldn't be possible.

    Oh well, you got me.

As far as I heard, the Clubsport version comes with the full roll cage and this isn't streetlegal in the US. So maybe there will be a Clubsport version without the full roll cage but right now, this is all I can say. Sorry guys but Porsche is pretty quiet about future plans and products and this makes it very tough for me and the others to provide sufficient information.

    Thanks RC, NT

Re: 2004 Porsche GT3 Order Guide (U.S. Only)

Would anyone be able to post the GT3 Order Guide for Germany or the UK so we can compare option availability.
I am particularly interested in exactly what the clubsport is going to contain.

    Thanks
    Peter

    Re: leather cup holder...

...no GT3 should be without it!!

i wish there'd be an option "no cupholder at all"...

    Re: leather cup holder...

I have a Flower in my cupholder to make use of it
    Looks nice !

A VW lookalike! I like it!! [NT]

    Need help with my German

In comparing the differences between the US & German GT3 order guide, I noticed these German options which I can't quite figure out. I would appreciate any help from our German freinds.

567 Windschutzscheibe mit Gruenkeil (windscreen with ?)

XSL Sicherheitsbuegel (Is that the rear roll over bar?)

Is that different than the rear half of the full clubsport rollcage? Does anyone now the weights of the full rollcage and can it be retrofitted? Does anyone know for sure if it is welded or bolted into place?

    Thanks
    Peter

    Peter,

winscreen where the upper 10-15cm is laminated (green) to block the sun

it's just the middle part; just behind the seats (no cage)

the full rollcage should be approx. 40 kg; and yes it's bolted

    Cheers
    Thomas

    Thanks Thomas! NT
