987 Ride Quality

FYI - I just test drove a 987S with 19" rims and it felt similar to a 986 with 18" rims but in a slightly better way. The 987S car with 19's felt more solid but just as bumpy as the 986 over medium and large bumps. The little bumps and cracks in the road were better muffled than the 986.

My next test drive scheduled next week will be a 987 with 18's vs 987 with 18's and PASM.

the sidewall on the 19in tires is softer to 'compensate' for the additional rim.

this is in practice, a bad , compromise type thing, but whatever, 19s sure look good

Go with PASM. It's worth every cent. Especially with the 19" wheels.

Don't bother with sport chrono on the Boxster. (I will now wait for RC's wrath!)

Why would they soften the sidewall to compensate for the additional rim if the tires sizes on the 987 with 19's are almost identical to the 986 with 18'?
In fact, the backs are identical:

2004 Boxster with 18's
Front - 225/40/18
Rear - 265/35/18

2005 Boxster with 19's
Front - 235/35/19
Rear - 265/35/19

Can't comment I am afraid - the 987 is my first Porsche. Autocar in their 2000 mile road test said that the 987 S with PASM was similar in ride quality to the 986 on 18" wheels, if that helps.

Hi I've had a 2.5 with 17's, an S with 17's and a new 2.7 with 19's. The latest car rides the best.

2004 Boxster with 18's
Front - 225/40= 90mm sidewall
Rear - 265/35= 92.75mm sidewall

2005 Boxster with 19's
Front - 235/35 = 82.25 sidewall
Rear - 265/35 = 92.75mm sidewall

So not alot in it.
