But what is the remit of this model? The normal GT3 not only has unique looks but it should be more focused for sporty performance and handling and OTOH the upcoming GTS will be more comfortable and practical for touring purposes and cheaper.

It is very simple - some people want a NA engine in their normal looking 911.

Some people want a car that is comfortably track capable, that is closer to the bygone 911, a little more analogue, but still be able to slip around town without being a spectacle.

Which is why I think Porsche is being very capricious and inconsiderate to it's customers when it's not offering the clamoured rear seats on such a 911 when they are no drawbacks whatsoever for having them.

Exactly. A manual Touring with rear seats is still going to be lighter than a PDK without rear seats so it's not even a weight issue. It's a bean counter issue and they know they will sell out of them regardless of rear seats or no.

    Re: 992 GT3

... Porsche cannot offer rear seats on GT3T because there would be about 150kg additional weight (2 persons) ... and this would result in problems with maximum load, damper settings and additional (paper) work for official permit.

    Re: 992 GT3

There hasn't been a N/A 911 in the normal 911 body shape for a while............

Equip the car with 18 way and PDK and it's just about perfect for a daily 911, Hecke even the dampers will be softer than the GT3 so more comfortable on the street, except it's way too fat.

    Re: 992 GT3

Nice Racing Green Metallic (my choice would be British Racing Green Uni with Cohiba Exclusive Leather option and Neodyme wheels like these).  AP also says in the comments that the suspension is not softer in the Touring (which I find surprising).  If they didn't change the suspension at all, makes sense that they didn't add rear seats.

    Re: 992 GT3

Well the two things I was looking for other than the subtle looks, Porsche didn't include.  Rear seats and softer suspension settings for more daily road drivability. I've got a  december slot on a regular GT3 which I'm now told that I can't change it to a Touring, which I'm not so thrilled about anymore. Quite disappointed to be honest with all this. GTS looking more and more like the car for me and my family. I was so excited about this touring model, they even screwed up in my opinion by removing the race tex touches in the interior and changing it to leather! Altough I'm probably in the minority here....

    Re: 992 GT3

British Racing Green for me as well.....But I'll be waiting for the facelift, hoping I get used to the nostrils by then.

Right, that's the thing, they are going to sell all the production regardless of the lack of rear seats so they are not motivated to do the extra work to give people what they want (adapt the suspensions, slap a couple of cushions and belts on the back an homologate it).

    Re: 992 GT3

Then 992GT3 is not the car to have. Wait the .2 version will be much better.kiss

For now my RS is what I want and will keep unless the 992RS blows my socks off.

    Re: 992 GT3

Given the limited number of 992 GT3 sold in California, this will impact very few cars. That may explain why Porshe failed to engineer the manual car to pass the test. I suspect California will adopt the new standards at some point. Certainly the 992.2 manual will be allowed.

    Re: 992 GT3

Lots of complaints about the Touring , but we must remember that Porsche is keeping a type of car alive (GT3) that no one else is doing anymore. I thought the 992 GT3 would become less raw only to find out after the presentation that the car is still as sporty as it can be, not compromising on confort.

There could well be a valid reason why the Touring does not get the back seats. Sidney came up with a very plausible explanation.  And I also wonder if Porsche has to keep sales of GT3/Touring contained as if they would sell too many, the general carbon emission of Porsche would be too high. Remember that the electric cars allow the NA engines to live.

We should be happy to still get this car .... even if not everything is making everybody happy about it. I for example find the back way too fat , high, busy and don't like the front mouth, but would probably still get it if in the market. The car is unique and special.

How often do you take your kids in the back seats ?  Three , four,  times a year until they are 12. After that it gets too unconfortable anyway . If you like the Touring, get it . You will adapt. If back seats are so important, then GTS  manual .

true words of wisdom from @grill

I have very young children and thought back seats were essential - and so does my wife but you know what- we also have a cayenne and am sure we can make it work very well.

in relation to the ride - there are plenty of people who daily much harsher rides and we are still to really get any reviews that aren't based on the track.

im hopeful I will get and allocation and if I am offered it - the answer is "yes please - thank you"

What are you talking about?  California is by far the largest GT3 market in the US, which is the largest GT3 market in the world...

And 70% of 991.2 GT3's in the US were Manuals...

Yes, the volume is small by Honda Civic standards but it's a very significant percentage of GT3's...

Yes, it is great, and you are spot on with not selling too many due to emissions. That might well be the real reason.

With rear seats I would have ordered a Touring instantaneously, without it is no more useful than any other 2-seater and that is no help for me Smiley

Actually 85 mph in some places with 20mph over threshold before you get a big ticket.
