What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

Has anyone tried this? It looks/sounds like a pretty cheap easy upgrade to add some better sound and more airflow....

2005 Porsche 997 and 997 "S" high performance Cold Air kit Upgrade Kit $225.00

Package price 997 COLD AIR upgrade kit combined with BMC F1 filter $330.00 (save $15)

This Fabspeed Motorsport COLD AIR upgrade kit is a do it your self kit that will increase airflow by 20% to all the new 2005+ Porsche 997 cars.

    1) Simple to install under 20 minutes with Torx screwdriver.

    2) 20% more COLD AIR airflow from outside the engine compartment. More airflow= more power.

    3) Complies with Porsche factory warranty

    4) Simple direct replacement BOLT-ON upgrade for all 997 stock airboxes

    5) Works with factory Porsche and BEST with optional BMC F1 air filters.

BMC F1 997 air filter list price $140.00 Fabspeed price is $120.00

    6) Much better throttle response you can feel

    7) Absolutely more Sports Car sound that you can hear. Fabspeed Motorsports 997 "COLD AIR Upgrade/enhancement kit" makes all stock 997 cars with stock mufflers/ no modifications sound as if you upgraded your 997 to a mild performance exhaust.

Stock 997/997"S" Porsche OEM hose VS. Fabspeed RED silicone 4 ply hose

Fabspeed hose has much better AIR flow than factory hose. Factory Porsche OEM 997 air hose is like a dryer duct hose and has many internal ridges/grooves and channels for strength so it will resist collapsing under high RPM and wide open throttle. It is a cheaply made cost effective solution for Porsche

However, the Fabspeed Motorsport hose is an Aircraft - Military specification 4 ply ultra strong silicone hose. Perfect fit with smooth interior for no boundary layer separation or turbulence. Maximum airflow and elimination of the side channel for the muffler.

Fabspeed silicone rubber hose doesn't conduct heat like competitors steel or aluminum pipes. Cold air means always translates into more power.

Silicone cap for 997 muffler chamber.

GUARDS RED silicone air intake tube and cap-off look incredibly trick and visually upgrade your Porsche 997 engine bay!

Better throttle response and power gain you can feel. - 100% Guaranteed.

Finest "COLD-AIR" Hi Performance intake upgrade for the 996 made in the world!

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

I have it on my 996, better sound and throttle response, probably adds 1-3hp at the most. Sounds good at the track.

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

I fitted one 2 months ago,it gives a more pleasant "boomier' sound especially on sharp acceleration.Be careful the cap Fabspeed supply for the resonator opening can come off,I used the existing clip to secure it

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

LOVE it...installed it myself last week...gonna order fabspeed maxflo soon!!!

Ill make that outa paper and sell it to you for twenty bucks

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

I have it...improves sound...deeper...dont know about the power claims...

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

excuse me but how do you know that it does not interfere with the porsche warranty?

    RC what do you say?

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

I just checked their videos .. seems you can gain a pretty decent amount of horsepower with their products.

Still a little confused about that flapper valve in the airbox.

Here is a direct quote from the webpage for their catalyst bypass pipes

"MORE POWER than any "racing catalytic converters". If you want maximum power go with catbypass pipes.
NEVER buy bogus racecats and DONT listen to the wives tale about "you need backpressure and German racing catalytics."

Any modification which interfers with engine electronics, air supply, fuel supply (like more pressure, etc.) and so on CAN void the warranty. I don't say it would automatically do that, it CAN void the warranty.
I know that there is even a problem with sport air filters (just the filter element!) but I personally never heard of any case where Porsche refused warranty repairs because of a changed filter element only.

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE kit?

so this thing we are discussing here is not Porsche approved and thus can void the warranty.

Why does fabspeed claim that it does not void the warranty? and so some people on this forum?

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE ki

Don't expect any power increase on a moderday 911, but the sound changes slightly to a deeper growl, but not as much as a new exhaust or anything.

As far as I know, the main problem with the oil-based filters is that any excess oil can interfere with the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS) cause it to malfunction. They come pre-oiled from factory when new and its not ussually a problem in that case but the problem comes when the filter needs a cleaning and re-oiling by the owner and may put too much oil on the filter. IMO if you want to get one, just buy a new filter when the old one gets dirty instead of cleaning it and there shouldn't be a problem, they are fairly cheap.

However, I would just recommend getting the simple "replacement filter" that you switch in place of the factory one with no install, since the "kits" like these still don't offer any performance improvement (sometimes even worse like in the case of the "cones" since they are not ussually shielded from the heat of the engine compartment and thus sucking hot air with causes an actual loss of power when engine warms up) and is more of a hassle and money for nothing. Their main effect is in the switch from factory paper filter to oil based filter, everything else is just useless, its not like Porsche doesn't know how to construct proper airfilters and for their own designed engines and simple tunners can and in the 997S with the Helmotz resoantor I would not even play with the simple replacement filter with would change air flow from designated factory specs.

    Just my two cents.

Re: What do people think of the FABSPEED COLD AIR UPGRADE ki

greetings carlos as simple as it gets, in my older cars i ve always tries cones and every time i put them on dyno they showed less hp..
