997 Supply

Just returned from my local Porsche dealer who had not a single 997 or 997S in stock. He claims to be expecting delivery this week of 7 more 997's, but EVERY ONE is already sold! This L.A. dealer is reputedly the second largest by volume in the United States (I believe that Champion, in Florida is #1). So where are all the new Porsches?

I hope they are not becoming garage queens. I have only seen one 997 in San Francisco and one 997 at LAX. Other than my own, I have not seen any 997s. In fact, I hardly see any 996s either outside of 90210 or Malibu, but lots of 986s. I do happen to see more than a few TTs and GT3s.

Autogallery were expecting 7 to arrive on 11th Feb, and I know they weren't all presold. If you are looking for an S...Pioneer Centre (San Diego) had a Seal Grey arriving in a few days (should be there now). It was a customer cancelled order....I think Pacific Porsche in Torrance also had an S (didn't ask about 997) Try Mark Taylor there...I found him very on the ball and not the least bit sleazy....

There are a few of them (3-6) in Seattle, WA. You could fly up and drive back home, breaking in the engine with 1000 miles

You probably don't notice them on the street, from far away, they don't look different than a 996.

When I took delivery, they only had one stock car and it was a non-S.

Lots of potential sampling error. Agree that SF/LA dealers are quickly selling 997S but I only see 1/wk or so on road in SF region, despite 6 mths post-intro. But last wk, for ex., saw an Enzo and DB9 at same light in SF's financial dt during PM rush and during AM rush on 280 fwy on SF's Peninsula saw a GT2, 996TTS and Gallardo traveling in a pack and at an "appropriate", Germanic pace during the SF-SilicVy commute. And have been on LA's legendary Westside and Malibu many times when car sightings are surprisingly unremarkable...and other times where the concentration of new, high-end cars is very remarkable and justifies LA's rep....

Probably a california thing; that will be the last place cars will sit on lots unsold. I think it's possible to buy from an out of state dealer and have the car delivered to the Porsche dealer in your area.

Probably not too difficult to BUY from a non-LA area dealer, but I was looking for cars to sit in and test ride, to help me decide which model, and which set of options that you need to feel (like seats) are right for me.

They have a few 997's at Rusnak in Pasadena, but no S's.

Aren't we all! Direct contact with actual product is very difficult if not impossible. That's why internet, specifically THIS board, is essential to buying a new MY Porsche.

I did my test drive after I wrote the check and was handed the keys to take my car home, four months after I ordered the car.

I think you are probably talking about Mckenna porsche. I was there the other day and they had no 997s. They are the 2nd largest dealer in the Nation. Im thinking about buying a 997s but I doubt with these supply figures we will be receiving any sort of discount.

I believe that Beverly Hills Porsche also thinks its #2. Not sure if McKenna or BH is really #2.
