" The Carrera GT Sedan "

Taken from a mole's report ( FWIW ) posted at autospies.com . Now if Porsche truly made a car that is to the 4dr sports sedan world as the Carrera GT is to the sports car world , I may have to put myself on another list , esp with slightly detuned C-GT V10 to go up against the M5 V10 ! Gotta use that motor for something , after the C-GT run is done . There could be two versions- 500 hp Turbo V8 and 600 hp wailing V10 -yumm. OTOH, if they ruin it's image with V6 and hybrid power to expand the volume with factory incentives , then it's just another mid-sized German sedan line- yuck.

    "Dear 001,

During my recent trip to Germany I stopped into one of the Porsche dealers and one of the Porsche reps was there making his regular visit.

As I was browsing near the manager's office I overheard the rep say that the 4-door M5 killer is now definitely a go!

He mentioned that it would be in dealers in LESS than two years!

He kept describing it using the term 'the Carrera GT sedan'...

    Sounds delicious to me!

    Signing off,

    The Dan from UNCLE "

Re: " The Carrera GT Sedan "

If Porsche is smart they would use AUDI RS6 engine and modify it to their specs which will save them a lot of development time as opposed to brand new engine design; kind of like Aston with Jag engine.

Spend the time on refining it not redesigning the engine.

Then concentrate on a nice, kick ass design that would attract a lot of people. My 2 cents.

Re: " The Carrera GT Sedan "

The time frame mentioned above does suggest they will use an existing chassis like the A6/Passat - not exactly known as the class leader is driving dynamics when compared to the 5 series underpinnings , so what we may end up with is the equivalent of the Cayenne/Q7/Touareg triumvirate in all it's marketing positioning and confusing to consumer overlap, since these 3 cars brands are often sold in the same store in the US.

Re: " The Carrera GT Sedan "

What's wrong with a cayenne turbo engine? Is the Rs6 engine much better?

Well, I'm not supposed to elaborate on that but the Cayenne engine is not a full product of Porsche either .

True, but unlike the Cayenne/Touareg chassis a limousine basis is much more promising in terms of dynamics. Besides that I assume the above mentioned chassis are not a bad choice at all, I'd suspect their lack of driver enthusiasm is rather due to specific suspension tuning than a fundamental flaw. I'd be curious to know the torsional rigidity of those chassis and if Porsche will modify it extensively.

In fact the aluminium A8 chassis'd look most interesting and challenging to me but if Wiedeking and his fellas would risk their effort on that one?

Don't worry, this is definitely NOT going to happen.

Good news if that's the case. Otherwise, the car, no matter how good, will forever be dismissed by other brand supporters as a dressed up VW/Audi , like a certain other P product and to a certain extent the 924/944 if you recall .

Re: " The Carrera GT Sedan "

It might have actually happened. At a point, VW intended to build a RWD sports limousine. As VW is Porsche's "natural partner", it might have evolved into a joint VW/Porsche project.
However, VW cancelled it. They are in financial troubles right now, and have little money for a low-volume flagship. The very idea of an exclusive "people's car" is silly anyway, just ask them about the Phaeton!

AFAIK the "4th product range" is 100% Porsche. People whose family outgrew their 911 but dislike SUVs are going to love it.

Do you mean it may be " station wagon " - like . i.e., with a squared off rear hatch ? ( Like the coming MBZ R class ? ) Inquiring minds would like to know . Thanks in advance.

Re: " The Carrera GT Sedan "

No, it won't be a station wagon. Think MB CLS instead.
    If I wanted a Porsche with a rear hatch, I'd buy a 911 Targa.
