    996 Turbo Question

Are there any Visual changes on the exterior to tell apart a Reguler Turbo to a turbo fitted with a X50 package?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

A Turbo S - which has the X50 upgrade standard - can be distinguished by the S label, GT-Silver wheels etc.

Other than that, normal turbos and x50s are exactly the same on the outside

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

I know about the Turbo S being with the X50 package. I meant the reguler Turbo with the X50 package. Well if there is no visual changes, thanks for the information

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

There are no visual changes to the exterior at all. The exhaust on the X50 is louder than a std tt and obviously you have the engine and gearbox mods.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

So how do you find out?

If you are looking to buy outside the Porsche dealer network and a seller tells you it has the X50, how can you confirm he is being honest?

If you are new to the 996TT you may not be able to differentiate on a short test drive.

Are there any checks you can do yourself, apart from calling a Porsche dealer with the registration number each time?

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

In the service book and on the underside of the bonnet is the car data label, on this X50 should be listed as an option. Also on a test drive if you floor it you should see 0.8 bar fairly easily, on the std turbo you will only see around 0.7bar.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

The turbo S has a green stripe in the top of the windscreen to block the sun. The turbo does not have that.

Sorry to disillusion you, Joost. The green stripe is an extra you could specify with any 996 or 986, probably the cheapest one in the price list!

No longer available on the 997. It's now a gray stripe!

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

Other than the boost, there is one additional difference. Put your hand inside the slats on the rear bumper. The X-50 intercooler, along with the GT2, has ridges that can be felt. The normal turbo has a smooth intercooler surface.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

So all the 996 turbo that are sold on mobile.de which are 450hp have the x50 package?! Or they raise the Hp of the car with a different program on the ECU ?! because a friend of mine is looking for such a car right now.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

The ECU can certainly be raised to 450hp or more, but it's best to check with the seller if it has the option. If he's unsure, than better walk away and look for another one.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

450 SAE horsepower, different way to look at the same thing.

    Re: 996 Turbo Question

aisxos, check the data label under the bonnet, it should have X50 listed if it has the original power pack from porsche

    Re: 996 Turbo Question
