    996 TT on Pirellis

    Could anyone of the 996 TT owners (with Pirelli P-Zero Asymmetrico tyres on their cars) comment on this observation:

    Car has strong vibrations for the first 50 miles after a cold start in the morning. Could this be the typical behaviour of Pirelli P-Zero Asymmetrico tyres ??

    I had this 996 TT for a testdrive and was not happy with this kind of performance. After abt. 50 miles of driving those vibrations slowly disappeared so I can only think of the tyres to blame for.

    Never had this problem with my P-Zero and I had two different sets. What you described might be normal on completely new tires but not on worn tires. I definetely had no problems with them.

    Not a 996TT owner but let me throw out some ideas: could it be tire flatspots or a driveshaft issue? Both in my mind could cause the vibrations you speak of.

    Tire flatspots are pretty common on the P-Zero, this is true.
    But it is funny that I never really encountered this problem on my tires. And my Turbo has been usually sitting in the garage for a pretty long period of time.

    Did you check the tire pressure, charly?

    Christian has a point there Charly, check the tyre pressures. That's the one thing that will change as you warm up the tyres.

    The Assymetricos have lots of issues with going out-of-round, flat spotting, wearing into strange and noisy patterns. I'm actually surprised that Christian hasn't experienced these issues give how much of a maniac he is on the road.

    I've had a few sets of them. The tyre noises and vibrations start almost immediately after they are new. It just takes a few thousand km for me.

    The Assymetrico is an older tyre. Soon we will be using the Rosso on the Turbo. I'm expecting that to be a great improvement. Meanwhile, there is always the Michelin which has just become available again.

    But given your symptoms and how it goes away, I'd say that if it isn't tyre pressure related then maybe you need to look at the drivetrain somewhere??

    thanks for your inputs, it might have been tyre pressure, I must confess I didn't check it as I expected a car from an official Porsche dealer would have been perfectly prepared.
    It could also be flat spots as this car was sitting for 2 months in the show room.
    So I will have a second look at it but mind you, the difference in power deployment compared to a tuned RS4 was less than I expected. Maybe I should have a more closer look towards the Ruf models.

    Tire pressure is always a problem. I know about new cars delivered to customers with low tire pressure. I also drove dozens of Porsche testcars/loaners from dealers and some of them didn't have the correct tire pressure either.
