    RC,
Is there something you wanna share with us? a turbo cab.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

Hey Joost, thats pretty much what i was saying ! I did say that there maybe was some "Lens" distortion going on !

or maybe the pics "stretched" in photoshop !

anyways, something isn't right about it... is what I was saying...

So, is it real or is it a UFO ... ha ha !

If i'd known i was going to get into full on scientic/optics/geometry argument... i would have spent more time on it... ha !

    no worries :-)

I'm also confused after reading this from the guy who took the pics

"You people crack me up! I admit the pictures are terrible, but I drive a 997. I know what a 997 looks like, and that car, sir, was no regular 997! I know the car I saw was wider, plus the folks at the dealership knew what it was.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

I thought the new C2 and C2S would be followed by a C4 and C4S but not wider just AWD and the C4S would be AWD & 30 more hp...and the new 997 turbo would be wider....

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

J.Seven, that also brought me to doub, and i appreciate the people actually putting some effort in posting these pics. But they are simply not convincing. They just don't prove anything. Fact of the matter is that it is a special car, hence the testmule rims, and the story of the guy, but widebody? I just dont know... And Bitsa, sorry that I misunderstood you. I thought that with you pic you were trying to prove it was a widebody, and I tried to convince you that the pic is not necessarily proving anything.

The 997 Turbo is gonna be a blast...

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

    it's okay joost... no probs,

I only did it to try and make it clearer for everyone ....

Looking at the pics side by side... and at different scales, it was hard to tell... so I put them above each other and scaled them both the same size... But it seems the mystery continues ???

Ahhh... F%&* IT! who cares right ?

we love a good mystery :-)

I'm not convinced either way ??... maybe it is... maybe it's not ??

Only Porsche really knows for sure I guess ?

OK, I was right! It does have Georgia plates. So it could be! Now doing a unscientific test with my car, checking the rear at every angle, I could only get it to look wide on one side only and not both in reference to the rear taillights. This seems wide on both side.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

Not a right angle but I think it could be the wide body, i'm confused like the rest too .

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

    .

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

No matter what the hell it is it looks amazing!!

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

    Sure looks wider to me!!!

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

Hi, I'm mad on the 997 and have been lurking for a long while. Am particularly interested in this thread.

I'm convinced that this is a widebody. The place to look is the rear light cluster - they're different. The widebody has a "flatter" cluster. the narrow body has a "curvier" cluster. It is necessarily less "curved" by virtue of its increased width. It looks awesome !!

That's just because of the different angles of each photo. Look at the yellow 997s on page2 of this thread and the light cluster is also flat.

You won't find this hump this big on your 997, regardless of angle.

Uh, I didn't mention what dealer it's at (wink wink). My guess is that the cars will be visiting the dealer for a few days. I was told they need to use the service bays for some tweaking.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

I could go down the street to check it out if it was outside still.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

    RC,
I think Ron is aiming at why you have a pic of a 996 turbo cab in your garage. Ron, I think this is the car RC had "to play with" a couple of months ago.

Indeed after those pics, it looks wider.

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

Glad I waited to order .. this will be the wayy to go !

Why so similar to regular body?

If it is a wide body 997 then a couple of things make me curious.

The wide body would surely need a new rear bumper to fit properly. If that's the case why not design it in such a way that from behind it's obviously a wide body and clearly a different car, without debate we're having here. (No obvious marketing value in making it look the same.) If you look at the 996 C4S it uses the TT rear bumper and th red strip to differentiate it from the rest.

Also would you not think they might want to put the red trim strip across the back of the car in the way they did for the C4S to further differentiate it? Yet it appears to use the same engine compartment cover and spoiler.

I'm still not convinced it's a wide body...

The yellow 997 on page 2 is at a lower angle. Plus, if it is from Porsche, it may have been taken with a large format camera which would definitely skew the perpective.

All we know for sure is:
    1) It is a mule of some type because it does have Georgia plates and different rims.
    2) From the angle of the clear rear end picture, I could not duplicate the wide part on my car on both sides at the same time. I could do one but not both at the same angle of the picture taken.

    So...

    Re: 997 wide body spotted!!

looks wider guys...I think we all dont want to accept this because we all now wished we waited for the WIDER 997...sucks I know

They may ultimately change the rear bumper and the engine lid with a different look, or may not, but the wider width comes from the rear fender being extended by 1 or 2 inches on each side not the bumber.
