    Re: 992 GT3

Dunlop the brand is controlled by Goodyear and Sumitomo with Goodyear having control of the brand in Europe and North America. Here is something weird, 991 GT3RS have Dunlop tires together with Michelins. The Dunlops that went on the car for Europe and North America are Goodyear products, while the Dunlops heading to Japan and rest of the world are Sumitomo products.

A Dunlop tire isn't necessarily a Goodyear product depending on where one resides, so it's only natural that Goodyear would much prefer dropping the Dunlop name and unite everything under the Goodyear brand to avoid confusion.

The Goodyear F1 Supercar tires are actually very good tires. When GM launches the current Camaro a few years ago, they did the press event at my track, the ZL1 1LE cars all wear the Supercar tires. They are just as grippy as Cup 2 but can sustain the load by the much heavier Camaros. It was shocking to see how good those tires are.

    Re: 992 GT3

I'm not saying the following applies here; Whoopsy explained what's going on with the tires and their branding.

However, I have been wondering whether it is a good idea to buy a new car today (and in the next few months), given the impact Covid must have had on manufacturers and their supply chain. Is it possible that they are making compromises and using components they would not normally use, in order to keep production going? I realize that it takes years to develop and qualify components, so it is not easy to make such changes; still, I wonder if this is happening on the margins.

Related to that is whether manufacturers are having to make compromises when it comes to personnel and training...

    Re: 992 GT3

It's cool, for the first time I've seen on the configurator you can select the tyres you want on the car! How long has that been?

I looked at the configurator for Cyprus and I see where it shows all the different tires for the GT3, but I didn't see any place where you actually are able to select one of them.  Is it an option to choose?

No problem - it is interesting that they have "N" certified so many tires this time.  I hope it causes some competition on pricing!

    Re: 992 GT3

It needs vents behind the doors. Makes the car look more aggressive. The wing, at least to me, is a joke. Though the intent of the car is for track work, it’s also a street car. Most of the miles will be incurred driving on public roads. The gargantuan wing (assuming it will be huge as shown) is a concern for me.

That said, the initial mule pictures of the 992 GT3 showed a large elevated wing but the finally product was considerably smaller.

    Re: 992 GT3

Mmmm. I think that render is wrong. The scoops will sit below the hood profile line not protrude above it. From some of the closer up spy pics weve seen they are quite sculptured. I think they will look very cool but dont expect any front luggage room. Youll need the folding buckets if you want to put more than a helmet in the car....

    Re: 992 GT3

I think the gap will be much bigger between the GT3 and the RS with the 992 - the RS being basically only drivable on track and embarrassing on the street.

I think it's more like this: the eye gets used to the new design over time, but it's still not a good looking car, especially from behind. Smiley

    Re: 992 GT3

The space from the rear door edge to the rear wheel well is simply too large, the black patch looks enormous there. The headlamps, wheels and mirrors, even the glass cockpit are all nicely done. The front splitter and side proportions are just wrong to my eye. 997 RS 4 liter is still my favorite.

Removing that black patch would help the looks immensely; however, the splitter appearance is driven more by aerodynamic requirements than aesthetics.
