The number Porsche promoted back in 2002/03 was actually 980. The design of the final CGT was changed quite a lot, but I havent seen any other internal codes for the CGT since. Heres a pic of the 980 and a preliminary concept drawing. As far as I know Porsche never built a prototype of the 980...only provided the press with phony CGI images. Hope this helps
We call *internally* the upcoming Boxster-based coupé the C7. It is a 987 - why should it be anything else? All I can tell you, though, is that my coworkers are *very* excited about the C7S. You're going to love it.
As for the GT3 question, sorry Dave, I can't do that...
The Groom, Thanks for the info about the Boxster coupe, I thought C7(S) was just the internal designation. Hearing the rumours going around saying that this car is going to priced higher than the Boxster roadster, and that Porsche marketing are going to pitch it between the Boxster and 911, then it thought it may get a new 9XX number rather than 987.
Are you able to say when the C7 is going to be first shown? Someone at Porsche Cars GB said there would be some news/announcement next week, but this seems unlikely to me.

Atlantis:
I said exactly that: we call it C7 *internally*. Even if I knew the definitive commercial name, I wouldn't be allowed to tell you!
As for the price, I prefer to consider it the opposite way: it's going to be an awesome deal, since the C7S is a much better sportscar than the Carrera at a significantly lower price! ;p
The only reason I think it is unlikely is that I would expect some of the weekly car magazines here in the UK to have a teaser about it in their "Next Week" sections. That's what happened with the 987 launch. Unfortunately, there are no teasers in this weeks magazines, but maybe this is because Porsche have them under a strict embargo?
I really hope there's an announcement soon. I've had my name down at my local dealers to buy one for over a year and I can't wait to see what it'll be like.

Sorry, I just meant that you were confirming what I thought. I wasn't questioning what you said. Having read what I wrote again, I can see that it was a bit ambiguous.
