    Is the AC system the weak link of the 997?

    Okay. 91 degrees today in Texas. Set the AC to LO, overrode the AUTO setting to direct all air to face, turned fan to highest speed, engaged Recirc. Had a little trouble cooling the cabin down. It's only February. Summers in Texas are hot and humid. Will my 997's cooling system be able to cool me adequately? What have your experiences been?

    When I testdrove the 997, It was over 100F here in Saudi Arabia and I had no problem cooling the cabin down. I don't think you should have a problem.. I used Auto on LO - It took a couple of minutes to cool down and then I lowered it to medium fan speed.

    BTW, I've lived in the states before and for a while in Houston, TX - the heat and humidity you guys get overthere is peanuts compared to here.. I'd take your weather over ours in a split sec

    Nah, the RMS is.

    PS. porsche air conditioning is nothing to complain about. there are plenty of other SERIOUS difficiencies with their products. for example, the stereo system that prevents aftermarket additions, the serious flaws in their base engines...

    Had the same problem a few weeks ago. It turned out I was coming down with the flu. No problem since then and we have had some hot weather.

    check the Frion in the AC it may be your car.

    ive never heard of people complaining about a 996/997's air conditioning not being strong enough, ESPECIALLY in a coupe.

    true, my 996 cab with the top down and the sun beating down had a fine A/C.

    Mine was low upon delivery. I had them juice it up and it leaked again. They had to replace a gasket. All is well now.

    You may have a faulty one. I have a '00 996 and never had an issue with the AC, it works just fine.
    Take it in and have them take look at it.

    Two things.....

    First get a clip on digital thermometer and place it in the center vent.....I know, it will look stupid but just for a quick test. With climate control at its lowest, recirc on, see what you get as a reading. You should be able to get somewhere between 32F/40F degree at the center vent after driving around 10 minutes or so. If you don't there could be something wrong with the system in general, low freon, bad thermal switches, non working vent motors, etc.

    Usually during the first warm days of spring I tend to think the A/C in all my cars isn't working that great. Part of it is due to the less drastic temp difference between an 80 degree day and a the typical 100 degree summer day in Texas. The same A/C may feel much colder on the 100 degree day than it does on the 80 degree day.
