    Homelink Programming Problems?

Anyone else who's had trouble programming the homelink buttons? Can't seem to get mine to accept a Craftsman garage door opener code. I've tried the directions for both the fixed code and the rolling code, but no go. Interestingly, when holding the garage door remote, the fog lights would flash, which is supposed to mean the buttons accepted the program.

    Tips, suggestions welcome.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

I couldn't progam my Genie Max Pro either with both rolling and fixed code yet my friends remote worked just fine (he has a different kind of remote with fixed code)

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

    I know the problem .
if your garage door is old (5 hears or more) homelink doesn't work because it's radio frequence is not homologated . No WAY .
I have homelink on my cayenne .....I can't use it .

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Sergini, my garage door opener is less than 3 years old.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

try the other procedure ....autoprogramming ...if not works ,go to your Porsche dealer ,they have the full list of compatible gates .
    and prayyyyyy!

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

I did and we tried so many ways with my remote it did not work. Yet, my friends remote work just fine so the problem is with my remote.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

I have a very old Craftsman (certainly over five years old) used the fixed code procedure and had no problem. Although it did take me a couple of tries to get it.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

You can find the complete list of compatible devices on
    http://www.homelink.com

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

My device is listed as compatible but no luck!

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

My garage door brand (Raynor) is not listed. However, my wifes X5 has homelink and it works! Go figure, I can't get the Porsche to accept the program.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Okay - called Homelink Tech Support and got it to work. Here's what i did:

    1) Press and hold buttons 1 & 3 (2 outside buttons).
    2) Release when small amber light next to buttons flashes rapidly.
    3) Press and release button you wish to program. Amber light should flash slowly, about once every second.
    4) Take your remote to the front of the car, as described in the 911 owners' manual, and press and hold button until fog lights flash 3 times.
    5) Go back inside car and verify that the amber light is neither flashing nor solid.
    6) Press and release the "learn" or "smart" button on the garage door opener. Important - don't press and hold, just press and release. There should be a light just above the smart button and it should light up and stay lit solid.
    7) Go back to the 911 and press and hold for about 3 seconds the button you're trying to program. You may need to do that about 2 or 3 times.

The button should then open/close your garage door - it did for mine.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Raynor openers are made by Chamberlain - as are most others.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Mine works fine, but the directions sucked. I got it on the second day of trying.

I have a Genie Max Pro that seemed to program without a hitch. Did the flashing red "learn" light go steady after the 1st push on the Homelink button and then did the light go out after the second push of the Homelink Button? If this doesn't happen, the garage door opener did not "learn" the Homelink transmitter. I had to do it twice. Also, the Homelink Transmitter in the Porsche did not light up immediately after pushing the botton. I probably had to hold it for a good 2 seconds before the yellow LED on the farthest right lit up. Good luck!

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

My garage door openers are quite old...but no problems here

Alin, the problem according to my garage door mechanichs is the remote i'm using and not the unit itself .. can you tell me what remote you are using or take a picture of your remote - i'd appreciate it.. thanks.
What I did was erase the memory (hold buttons 1 and 3) till light flashed rapidly.
then press button one to program it until light flashed slowly, then went to try and program from the front of the car in many positions with no luck.

    Thanks..

I see. You couldn't even get the Homelink programmed to accept your garage remote...

I'll take a pic of my remote and post it...

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

    Model No. ACSCTG Type 3.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Thanks Alin, I'll pass on the model no to them and see if they could get me one..

Homologated??? Wow! Sounds like something that could pickle my pecker if I spend too much time in titty bars!

Anyhow, my garage door opener is older than I am and my Homelink works just fine.

Not that I am a fan of Porsche's telematics, with their lousy cell (mobile) phone implementation and lack of satellite radio.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Patriot -- your directions worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to share what you learned from Homelink central command.

By the way, I noticed Porsche's Homelink system only works with the ignition on. This is different from some other cars I have (or had) that can operate Homelink without the key in the ignition.

Patriot -- love your car by the way. I have the same set-up in Atlas with Classic wheels.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

Mine programed with not problems. The trick is to make sure you reset the system by pressing button 1 and 3 until the light flashes.

You're very welcome. Glad I could help. I had never seen Atlas before seeing a 996 C4S Cab in Atlas on a Houston dealer showroom floor one evening. It really is a beautiful color. I like the Classic wheels as well.

    Thanks for the props.

    Re: Homelink Programming Problems?

I had terrible trouble programming my homelink for my new 997 cab. Dealer couldn't help nor could the homelink helpline. My garage door opener is a Seip (German manufactured) and according to Homelink should have worked. Spent many useless hours ubtil I contacted the Seip importers in the UK. I had to get an update for my reciever .This cost about Pounds120. It now does work but if I had known beforehand I would not have bothered and just used the pocket transmitter. Oh the joys of specing.

    Jonathan

PS The car is great and a big improvement on the 996 cab 3.6
