    Porsche Cayman

Here's my attempt of drawing the Cayman.. hope u guys like it

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    You're kidding.... Right?

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Looks more of a concept model, interesting nevertheless .

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Thats a cool quick sketch....not perfectly realistic but a neat impressionist view of what it could be like. keep at it

    Re: Porsche Cayman

How did you color it like that? I like the effect.

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Thats pretty cool. The rims are huge !

    Re: Porsche Cayman

It's Alias Sktechbook pro and i've got one of these digital pens so yeah... watch me making better sketches in the future.. ill keep em coming!!

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Here;s my second attempt..

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Not bad.
You may wanna try using broader and more defined lines.
That way the lines will "hold the colors together" so to speak.
Especially around the windows and wheel arches.
I'm posting my new Cayman sketch to show you what I mean.

If youre interrested I have a couple of book titles that are useful if you wanna learn how to do these things. There are a lot of great techniques out there.
Ask Farina in here if he has any books or tips. He is really good at designing Best of luck

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Ahh DrPhil

    thats more like it.
    very nice
    PS, i love your profile

ATZPorsche... i commend your effort, but don't quit your day job, you are a brave soul posting those, especially in present company.

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Well im only gettin started.. and I figured this way u guys could comment on my sketches enabling me to improve them faster.. DrPhil, thanks for your advise. I would be interested what those book titles are you're advising me to look at?? Ur sketch is truely amazing and i can only hope ill be able to imporve my skills to your level one day..

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Honestly, I bet if I had a working scanner i could wip up something rather nice, as I was once a tranportation design student at art center in pasadena, but as I dont have a working scanner, I should really shut up.

I'm actually pretty rusty, since it's been at least 10 years since I did my last car drawing, and this one wasn't pulled from my sleave either. I used a production image as base, traced it onto layout paper and using a 3B (pretty soft) pencil then changed a few things on the car along the way.
Coloring, finishing touches and a few other adjustments were done using Photoshop and a Wacom Board (electronic pen).
I'm busy right now, but I'd love to help u out with your technique
One fast tip you can practice on while Im gone:
Use a broader, firmer line for the main lines of the car. Make the wheels and inside arches black, and the same with the shadow. Window frames black too.
Just try it on your existing sketch, and I think it will help a lot.

And a final tip for now: Sketch using a pad and a pencil. Wacom and other electronic pens are really good, but it just aint the same as using the real thing IMO U can always scan the sketch in afterwards.
    CYA later

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Heres a quick touch-up of your design.
It's actually quite cool once you get the lines made more firm.

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Looks more like a Nissan Z 350 to me.

    Booktitle:
This is quite old, so maybe it's hard to come by.
    * Dick Powell: Presentation Techniques:
    Publisher: Orbis

In that book is a step-by-step guide to designing a car (as far as I recall) among other very,. very useful things.
It's a great source and inspiration for learning how to work with shadows, highlights, FX etc etc.
I have it, and it's great.
Heres a link to Amazon where you can still buy it.
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...nce&s=books

Check out Dick Powell's other books, and probe the internet for more lessons on drawing cars.
AND write "Farina" on this board.
He is really awesome at designing. Im sure he can help u.
    Good luck

    Automotive portfolios for inspiration.
    Some of these are awesome!

    Re: Porsche Cayman

Thanks so much DrPhil ill defninitely take into account your tips.. i've got a portfolio on that site already: http://207.44.232.26/portfolios/cdn_pf_p...&imageNum=1
    thanks for all the links

    Re: Porsche Cayman

How's this DrPhil.. i just did this sketch considering your tips! I believe its much better already

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Its better
Still need more confident lines to "hold the design together".
Try using a pencil and doing it by freehand instead.
Just sketch with a pencil and scan that. Hold the colors for now.
The computer is great, but its not very intuitive to work on compared to freehand drawing.
Check the new tutorial links I gave u.

    Tot ziens!

Man, this language is even worse than danish! ARRRGH!!

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    hahahahahhaa this is hilarious
DrPhil, i was born in the area of Hamburg, thats not too far away from Denmark.. I spend lots of summers on Langeland!!! hahaha the world really is small

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Dr Phil & Atzporsche,

you ought to really look at the drawings & portfolios coming off of Car Design News, and other places like Art Center College of Design. Being new to this site I am not sure where you want your talents to go...but If you want to be a car stylist go to ACCD. I graduated from there and have designed lots of stuff...will post some if interested.

    cheers,

    Re: Porsche Cayman

    Honda S2000?

It isn't enough to know how to draw, you also need a certain "feeling" for the Porsche brand, it's tradition and the current products. Your sketches are nice but none of them really comes close to a Porsche. They look like something else. Take yourself some time, look at several pictures of Porsche cars from the present and the past and try to get a feeling for the Porsche design. Then, try again. Just a friendly hint from somebody who doesn't have a clue about design but who at least can tell if it is a Porsche or not.
