Why the hell didn't Max pit straight after Lewis.
When he didn't the writing was on the wall, and the writing happened. Too many laps sill to be covered on Max's set.
The Merc car still faster, would love to see Max in it, never happen though. Remember Russell.
And Perez needs to get up the front to help Max. Could be the difference between Max winning 2021 or not.

Why the hell dit LH not pit straight after MV ? He would of not lost the 5 seconds he did and avoided having to do catch up. But maybe it as just to keep you guys entertained. Such a thoughtful guy, this LH

Yep, LH did that in another race, eek out an extra 9 or 10 laps out of his first set. Sets him up nice for the final charge on older tyres that Max has.
Merc are the best tacticians without doubt. Think the Merc is kinder to tyres too, RB has to be hustled.

BjoernB:It's easy to protect yr tires when you're in the fastest car and usually in front with clean air. I guess Max needs to extract everything to be 2nd....
Normally if a car is following another too closely, i.e. within a second or 2, the dirty air will cause more tire wear.
Lewis was well within that window for most of the race...................

He didn't because he didn't have a new set of yellows anymore, only reds, which would have put him in the same situation. So they decided to keep him out with the small chance his tires wouldn't go out too quickly. However, the mercedes pace on the yellows was absolutely stunning.

It was an entertaining race. Nail biter to see if Lewis can make up 22 seconds in like 24 laps. He did it with 6 laps to spare.
I suspect if not for Mazepin holding up Lewis, he would have finished his quick in lap and pit right after Max. And the two drivers will be on the same strategy and battle to the end. With tires going away, they might pit again for fresh tires, with max on new softs and Lewis on mediums.
In a indirect way, Mazepin didn't hold up Max but still managed to ruin his chances to win.
As it happens, while watching the Quali, the F2 races are also broadcasted too.
The wet Sprint race was especially fun to watch. The feature race after the Quali was also great.
Those young guns down in F2 are the future challengers to Max, on top of Norris, Leclerc, Russell. Future of F1 is bright and interesting.
Monaco 2021
-Ferrari, arrogance, even when they are not in a position to be. Literally they took Leclerc into Casino Monte Carlo and lost. They can't resist to gamble and see if they can keep pole. At least they got a 2nd place out of Sainz. It was a surprise to see the Ferrari so fast in Monaco, they seems to be getting back in the game.
-McLaren, what a race for them, podium on their special celebration livery. Norris is quite a driver. But with the car build around him, it's not really a surprise, just like Max with his Red Bull. Poor Ricciardo, the McLaren just isn't build for his style.
-Mercedes, Hmm. Hmm. Outside of Rosberg squeezing Hamilton and taking both of them out back in Spain 2016, I don't think they have a worse race weekend. Botching the timing on Hamilton's pitstop. Bottas stuck in the pits with a stuck wheel nut is quite like salt on the wound to finished up the weekend. At least Hamilton savaged an extra point fo the fastest lap. Weird that Bottas always seems to ended up on the wrong end of the stick even when he didn't do anything wrong. Their car is quite clearly not competitive on Monaco, there is something wrong with the balance. A good chunk of rear downforce was gone with the new floor for them, but seems like they are wearing the front tires more and their cars doesn't seems to want to turn in, maybe over did the adjustments. Honestly, while most would say Mercedes tune their cars around Hamilton, I wouldn't think so, seeing Bottas routinely can out qualify Hamilton over the years, I would say their car is more neutral between the two drivers, unlike the Red Bull.
Red Bull, it's quite clear they have the fastest car this year, it is the car to beat. As long as Max make good decisions on track, they are the favourites. Textbook pitstops and perfect strategies. Almost like a routine race from pole for Max. And Max is maturing and learning quickly and start making good decisions. Future World Champion material.
Aston, great to see Vettel finished 5th. No surprise that the Aston car is tuned around Junior. And Vettel had to adapt to how Junior drives. Vettel's experience around Monaco shows, hence he finished well cleared of Junior. But also well clear behind the top 4 cars.
Alpine, Alonso is way back behind Ocon. they pretty much ran a invisible race, like Haas, Williams, Alfa.
Good result for Gasly in the Alpha Turi.
Also interesting to see the drivers post race. We know Leclerc and Sainz are getting alone quite nicely, and Norris is great buddy with Sainz. From before, Albon, Norris, Leclerc, Gasly, Russell, basically all the young guns are buddies with each other. Max, the other 'young gun', doesn't seems to be close, or friends with the others. At best they are acquaintances to him. Weird since they grew up racing each others.
Last take away, now I know why Serena Williams was so dominant in Woman Tennis. If Max is a size 9 shoes, Serena is like a size 15, she is literally doubled the size of Max. She just have so much more power than the regular girls on the tennis circuit.
Next up Baku, the fastest car this year with a bendy rear wing will have a really really long straight to show off it's superior speed. I predict Max will win that race too, if he doesn't make any mental mistakes in the race.

I read somewhere Vettel weighed a light 58kg at some point . They considered Hulkenberg too heavy, at what, just under 80kg .?

Surprised she could not wave the flag better with that forehand of her’s. I mean that flag did not wave much. Practice a bit next time.
Ferrari screwed themselves by crashing at the end of q3. Tough call to roll the dice but on pole do you really have a choice? Mercedes had a lousy day.
Had a fun afternoon trying to set up my simulator to do a 1:10 lap time. Got it done! Cant wait to get back there and just walk the track.

2021 new floor.
Merc had been losing rear downforce since the start of the season. The narrower floor affect the low rake car more, one reason the RB car is the car to beat this year.
The 2021 Merc is a looser car than the 2020 so to speak, so a setup adjustment is needed to bring the car's balance back to Hamilton's 'window' of preference.
Hamilton prefers a slight understeering car, relative to other drivers. On higher speed circuits, the front wing on the Merc can generate enough downforce for his car set up to work, but it would seems the corners in Monaco is slow enough that Hamilton just doesn't get enough front tire bite there.
But regardless of his ill-handling car, Hamilton still got enough out of it at the end of the race to grab the fastest lap, and fast enough to be a race record also. A full second faster than anyone else on track. That's still almost 2 seconds off his quali time and almost half a second behind Bottas and Max's quali time however.

@Whoopsy
Thanks, now I understand. I knew about the changed rules for the floors but I thought there was something new Merc did have to change as of the Monaco GP.
I think last weekends race was a one of and if the flexi wings of RB will be banned from FIA RedBull will have more issues for the next races to come.
Mercedes is always thinking of the big picture so they‘ve their care built to suit most of the race tracks and Monaco like Singapur are only 2 of 23 races where the‘d have disadvantages due to their concept.

So weird that Mercedes is throwing Bottas under the bus for stopping too 'early'.
I have re-watched the pit stop many times, and Bottas isn't THAT early, a few inches off yes, but well within their margin or error for the last hundreds of pitstops. And the other 3 tire gun men had no problem adjusting.
I freeze frame here and it would seems the difference is that the right front tire man got too close, crowded the space and kinked the gun's contact, hence stripping the nut.
If anything, if was that tire man's fault.
Bahrein:
LH - Martin Brundle: "front right was a bit slow as well" (2.9s)
Bottas - 2nd stop. Took a long time to change the front right tire (10.9s) video
Imola:
LH - Slow front right tire change (4.0s) video
Monaco:
Bottas - Front right tire stuck (DNF) video

There's something wrong with the front right side of both cars or the mechanic.

DR owned an Macca 675 for many years already and still keeps it being a McLaren F1 driver
Obviously he likes this car a lot
I think, if a city course that that… at least there is some action, mistakes are very costly… and cars can overtake. What is better Monaco??? Don’t get me wrong, the flair in Monaco is unmatched, but the race is just the worst. So as I said, if a city course that please be like Baku…
