Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

I have discovered today that the Porsche order system isn't perfect - my build date was Jan 2005 but car is still not built.

You will laugh when you hear the reason why - apparently due to shortage of Chrome tail pipes...

Couldn't they have just ordered this after the build ? If it was a shortage of 19" alloys, then I would have believed the reasoning a little more.

The pain continues...hope to find out tomorrow when the new build date is.

Sorry to hear that, I've got the opposite problem, my cars 4 weeks early and sitting in storage

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

Cheers Med - agreed - equal frustration. I know Reading is only used as a staging point for an interim PDI - it should reach your dealer soon (like Grants) and you should be able to see it, etc

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

Mine was tagged as "built" and I got my VIN # on 1/26. Still waiting for the ON VESSEL though. I feel your pain. I'm simply planning on polishing my stainless to a chrome-like finish. I find that it takes on more depth that way. Several steps with ultra fine grit paper, gradually going finer and finer, and then paste polish. Sometimes, when I'm bored, I polish my aluminum suspension bits the same way!! (yes, I need therapy)

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

Good one - you are coping well - paranoia will hit me soon - e.g. has my car been damaged, hence having to re-build, etc

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

My origional build date was Jan 10 and was pushed back to Jan 18, must not be all that unusuall.
Now its ONVESL heading to San Diego. and the days are passing so slowly.

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

I ordered my 997s on 07/30. My car was supposed to be built on November or early December. On January, the sales manager told me that there was a delay in the build date due to a shortage of car components. He also told me that the shortage was caused by a labor strike of German suppliers (???). Last week, He told me that the car was delayed because the RDK option (tire pressure monitor) was not available. On Monday, He confirmed that my build date is next week.
I guess that something wrong has happened to Porsche order system. Some owners have received their car before expected, and others are suffering a big delay. Maybe the problem is located in the production line (lack of components, or 997S sales higher than expected).
Does anybody have any idea of what is happening?
    Thank You.

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

Mine is built and is onvesl!

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

A little hint for people who want to be almost 99% sure to get their car in time: DO NOT order Exclusive items or items which are mounted/installed AFTER the car is exiting production. Things like that can delay a car delivery.

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

    Raul,

Appears I'm not alone and sounds like you're right - definitely something wrong with the Porsche Order system / suppliers of sundry parts (e.g exhaust trims)....

The wait and the pain continues - my dealer in the UK is supposed to confirm build this Wednesday (that's only if he can see any updates on the Porsche Order System)

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

My dealer just told me my car will be built 9th February - was scheduled for March build!

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

I'm still waiting for my car to get tossed on a boat....It's driving me nuts. At least once it's at sea I'll know when to expect it. Ocean lines don't screw around, they keep their schedules tight, time is money.

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

Is there a way to track my ship? When I ordered a BMW you could track your car over the internet. Does Porsche have a similar service?

Re: Jan 2005 Build date - but my car has still not been built...

I emailed Porsche USA to see about an online tracking utility, and got no answer back. What a surprise.... Once I get my ONVSL or whatever, I'm hoping I can get the name of the boat. Then it's just a matter of contacting the shipping company that I use for importing containers, and they'll get all the info on eta for my port.

Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

Yep, it was the Chrome Exhaust trim.... apparently there is a backlog with customers who ordered cars with this option - the backlog goes back to Nov 2004 build cars.

Not sure how true this is, but if I still wanted the Chrome tail pipes, my build date would have slipped further to April/May 2005 - crazy !!

Simple solution - remove chrome pipes from factory order list - all of a sudden, my build slot is within the next two days....

I'm simply amazed Porsche works this way in building cars but have to accept things like this happen when a new model in introduced in parallel to an existing model line up.

    Patiently...

I think that it is largely pot luck. I specced the same thing back in September for a Feb build slot, and the car will be finished next week. Or so they tell me...... it will probably arrive without them now

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

    Hi,
I just talked to my dealer. My car completed production at the end of January. Now, the ship is scheduled to dock at Baltimore harbor this Sat. Hopefully, the car will be here at the dealer next weekend for pickup! Can't wait. Is there a way to find out the name of this ship?
    Thanks!

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

Colonel, From Rennlist: ONVESL on 2/4 arrives in Baltimore on 2/12 - vessel is Rio Blanco. I cannot confirm this though on the NYK Lines web site.

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

    Woo. Thanks Bolloonmeister!

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

Hi Ballonmeister, where is the shipping info on Rennlist? Thanks!

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

Balloonmeister, I'm also trying to find info, can you help? For "whatever" reason, my car that was completed 1/26 did not make the Rio Blanco boat. It is slated to sail on 2/15. I'm very nervous that something happened to the car after it was finished that caused it to be held back for repair, hence the delay. Of course, my fears may be nothing but paranoia. In any case, how do I get specific info on the 2/15 boat? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Just found out the reason for the delay in Build

Mine is also on the Rio Blanco, but the Port of Baltimore does not show it as a scheduled arrival. Does anyone have any updated information?

    Shipping Information

Info is from Rennlist.com, thread entitled ONVESL, post by Mjones, 02/07/05 at 07:45AM as follows:
ONVESL 2/02 arrives San Diego 2/25 on ship Grus
2/02 arrives Brunswick 2/09 on ship Sea Venus
2/04 arrives Baltimore 2/12 on ship Rio Blanco

From an NYK Line web site of their ships (http://www2.nykline.com/nykinfo/car_carrier_services/fleet_list/index.html), neither the Sea Venus nor the Rio Blanco appear on their list of Roll On Roll Off ships used to transport vehicles. The Grus does appear and I can confirm its arrival dates in JAX and San Diego from looking at their port info web sites. I can't seem to find anything on the Sea Venus nor the Rio Blanco. I thought that Porsche only used NYK Lines for their cars but clearly that may not be so.
