    Lotus Emira

    The new Lotus sports car is called Emira









     

     

    Lotus is building a brand new, old-fashioned sports car. It will be fully unveiled on 6 July, and it will take the name ‘Emira’. (Pronounced ‘e-meer-a’, FYI.)

    Why old-fashioned? Because it won’t be an electric sports car, nor will it be a hybrid sports car. It will be the last combustion-engined sports car Lotus will ever build; the Elise, Exige and Evora are all being axed, don’t forget.

    Could be quite interesting.... though over here their dealer network is pretty thin.

    Too much of a spread to be a direct replacement for the Elise but hope it does well. However, one considers the Porsche Cayman GTS the better choice.

    I would buy one tomorrow if an official service would be available in my country. One with the AMG engine though.

    On looks alone, I would prefer this Lotus in my garage instead of a Cayman. Never liked the Cayman shape so much...

    Supposedly they will be available in the US next spring. The Toyota engine and gearbox are bullet proof, the AMG 4cyl is a known compact heat reactor. Go with the V6, I am.

    I think it looks old and outdated. From the side the cabin is way too big....

    Not sure what to think about it. I was excited before the release but not sure anymore. I think it is too heavy for a Lotus and nothing really amazes me.

    Nice exterior design. Really a replacement for the Evora and elevating this platform to chase some of the Cayman/Boxster segment. They will have to lift the quality game to a whole new level for Lotus.

    Time to buy a young Exige 410 and turn it into a dedicated track car to to keep doing Lotus track days with my 2 sons (keep the Elise etc).

    Nice Cayman and Alpine variant, but with over 1.400 Kg - way too heavy imo for a Lotus...

    But I hope they have success with this product - even if it´s their last car with a petrol engine.

    Yeah, unfortunately 1,400kg is the new "Lightweight" Smiley

    I do like the fact that it has double wishbones at all 4 corners, Manual gearbox option, and Hydraulic steering (neither Cayman nor Alpine can match that).

    Just placed a deposit.

    The salesman (Ian Groves) tells me that he has never seen anything like this in twenty years in the business and he spent 8 of those selling Porsches. The phone has been non-stop all day and his dealer principal said to him an hour ago that he wouldn't be surprised if the entire years allocation was sold out by the end of next week.

    This is going to be GR Yaris all over again with waiting lists and early cars reselling above list. Which is good news for residuals int he early years and one of the key reasons I can permit myself to spend £60k on a toy.

    This will be a game changer for the future of Lotus and it seems like a good time to get into owning a proper sports car as EV's start to take over.

    The design is very nice, I like it. The weight not so much, but like Grant says, it's the new light"weight" of modern cars. 

    What I don't like is the old V6 engine and the fact that there are no 100% N/A engine options, but that's why it's an affordable 60k £ I guess. The AMG engine will first come in 4cyl form... and the AMG V6 is probably still years away, and how heavy will it then become?

    There are two suspension options - comfort and sporty.  Maybe the sporty sits lower and this is comfy??  But you would think JB would track the sporty one (though it was wet)...
