    996 Carrera vs RS4

    One hour ago I was cruising on the highway at 120Kph with top down, when from out of nowhere a beautiful RS4 with xenon lights on apperead on my mirrors. I dropped to third gear, waited for the traffic to clear and nail it. I don't know in which gear was the RS4 in, but i was in third at 5000rpm at maybe 120Kph or something close and from that speed to 180/190Kph I gained maybe one car distance, then the RS4 started to gain on me and by the time we were at 200/210Kph he was all over my back. We had to brake due to traffic and then we both made several aceleration from 100/120Kph to 170/180Kph and the RS4 couldn't gain on me but I couldn't gain either. From those speeds up, RS4 semmed to be faster than my car. We both went out of the highway make a sign to each other with a smile on the face.

    What a great way to start the day, I love the RS4 and would love to have one for everyday use. This Station chipped can match in power a 996TT without problems .

    The A5 is no place to race!

    Nothing unusual in your story, till 200 the less wheight carrera has the edge but then the mighty 380 hp of the RS4 give her the upper hand.

    I love the simple, yet agressive and absolutely gorgeous looks of the RS4.

    Keep enjoying the great sunny (yet cold) winter with the top down.

    I was hopping to be passed by the RS4. If the guy had call all 380hp from RS4, I'm sure, even at speeds from 100Kph to 200Kph he would gain on me, not much, but enought to be notice, something that didn't happened today, only after 200Kph up.

    By the time you are reaching 150km/h the aerodinamic drag you have due to the top being down is like if your rear bumper was hooked to a parachute I wonder why he did not overtake you earlier?

    Are all RS4 automatic tranny or is there a manual option like on the S4? cause if it was a manual maybe he didn't downshift and when it came into the powerband at higher speeds he would start to gain

    All RS4 are manual tranny there's no auto tranny in this car. The RS6 is the one that only has auto tranny.
    I've already drove RS4 stock and 450hp chipped. Engine sound is miserable, shifting is like a normal sedan without any sport feel, but those things stick like glue to the road, no matter dry or wet, you just point the car and it follows your inputs, at least on mountain roads.

    Here's a 600Km day ride I've made a year ago with some other RS4 friends. We were cruising at more than 250Kph most of the time without the smalest complain coming from this fabulous Station

    Great pics, the RS4 looks terrific. I'm going to be getting rid of my Land Rover Disco II soon, wife wants a station wagon instead of an SUV and I would love one of these. Perhaps I'll have to "settle" for the S4 avant.

    How come I've never seen any RS4s when I've been in Portugal?

    Too fast for my eye? Nah...

    The RS4's stationwagon is pretty unhandy at speeds beyond 200 kph, don't underestimate the Carrera's efficiency!

    There's not many RS4 round here, you can see more M3 or M5 maybe due to the fact that we don't have snow round here making the 4WD advantage pretty useless. I prefer the RS4 to M5, have driven both, and RS4 impreesed much more.

    What do you mean by "unhandy" ?
