Man, what a swan song by Honda. They leaving F1 this year but boy, they seems to have the strongest engine now.
Max has the faster car, but he still need a bit more simmering for experience, Lewis won the race with skills and race craft. Eventually Max could be F1 champion however. Once Lewis retires, F1 will be in good hands, Max, Lando, even perhaps the new kid Tsunoda.
I wonder how fast Lando could be if he is in the factory Mercedes or the RB.
So Ferrari's punishment for cheating is to be embarrassed on track and to lose money for the 2020 season, or at least make less from prize money. Their HP level got capped for the whole 2020 season to finish at the bottom of the pack. This year their car is up to somewhere close.
Alonso, well, he could always petition to reinstate mass dampers, it was the only way he could win.

Max wasted a win...
LH did great with an inferior car.
Tsunoda 9th
Lewis clearly showed why he‘s 8 time WC and that he‘s worth every penny!
Max again lost his temper and by this means the race, he should have more patience as his RB was way faster than the Merc.
This season looks very impresive but let‘s wait‘n see what Mercedes can do in the three weeks brake to optimize their low rake car?

+1, a 4 times WC and such a mistake ... and, l didn‘t know that there is a contest of who stays out longest ... nevertheless, overall, a very good first race with some extraordinary driving from HAM at the end performing exceptionally under pressure from VER

Max says they just should have let him go.

Prior to race the stewards said it is okay. During the first part of the race it was also okay, then near the middle they started to warn the drivers. Even LH got such a warning. Strange decision.
LH showed how smart he can handle under pressure.
Lando could be a future WC!
Seb once again has lost the sense for reality

BjoernB:total joke - LH cuts this corner the whole race (and also gains advantages) and when he being overtaken the same way the stewards ask RB to let him back - what a joke. At least Epic battles in the midfield !
It is what it is.
To race car drivers, if something that isn't specifically forbidden, then it is allowed, until such time that someone says otherwise.
But the key point is that you cannot gain a lasting advantage when going over the line, Max gained a place after he goes over the line, that's the lasting advantage that the rule specifically forbidden. Pretty black and white there.
The advantage you perceived Hamilton gained, which are fractions of lap time, isn't a lasting thing, he gain no places while doing so and as the rules are written, it was ok, until the Race Director said no more. And Max was not smart enough to take advantage of the lax enforcement earlier in the race.
Max was just being immature/inexperienced when he gave back the place immediately, he has until the end of the lap to do so, as it was said in the broadcast, a more experienced driver would have done so at a place that's easier to do the overtake again. So one more race craft learned by Max, and he won't make the same mistake ever again. He was also rattled a bit and panicked and killed his rear tire grip after and losing all hope of passing Hamilton before the end of the race.
Anyways it wouldn't have happened had Max pushed earlier after the pitstop and catch and pass Hamilton. For some reason he hang back a bit before making the charge. Another mental mistake.

!00% correct, Mercs been gaining more than tenths from cutting that corner and didn't a back marker get in the way of a perfect overtake from Max?. Wrong place at the wrong time it looked, for Max ?
Also,
Max should have let Ham overtake at the start of the straight then got him back via opening his rear wing
All the other parts of the track were a struggle to overtake due to the turbulent air from the Merc.
Bring on the battle, about time Ham has a challenge, been too easy.
Perez wasn't to shabby either, he can really fuck up Ham this season for Max, about time Max gets a bit of help. Ham has with Bottas
This season will be epic. my money is, just, on Verstappen to be crowned.

Topspeed:Leclerc confirms drivers were told there would be NO penalty for going off the circuit at turn 4
What a joke F1 sometime is...
There is no try. Just do.
Solution to track limit abuse is very very simple and the FIA just didn't want to go there.
Any racers worth their salt is going to exploit a rule until it can't be exploited. And the FIA knows that very well too.
Make it so that the whole car has to stay within the white lines, any driver that gets even part of one tire over the white line gets a automatic drive through penalty.
Maybe it seems harsh, but think about it, on street circuits there are concrete barriers right next to the white line, the drivers never complained about the barriers are in their way ever. Plus, if they tagged the barrier, it's a retirement, much harsher than a driver through. Americans have been racing between concrete barriers in NASCARS and IndyCars forever and they never complained.
Their own sporting regulation had already clearly defined where the circuit is, between the white lines, so just enforce the damn rule and everyone will be fine.

On f1tv.com they said that only with fresh tires you could get a advantage by passing the track limits. That was the reason why it was forbidden in qualifiying and allowed during the race (at least the first half).
Max did get a sustainable advantage by passing the track limits to overtake Lewis - that was the reason why he has to give back his position.
Also,
Max should have let Ham overtake at the start of the straight then got him back via opening his rear wing
Lewis has slowed down a little and wait few seconds to overtake Max, so that was a small but effective trick from him
All the other parts of the track were a struggle to overtake due to the turbulent air from the Merc.

I am not for a penalty. I would like to see less concrete outside the track limits. If you leave the track and there is gravel your have got your penalty without intervention from race control. The tracks today have too much concrete outside the track limits.

no matter who thinks what - fact is that people watching wanted to see Max winning breaking the boring dominance of Mercedes.(and I mean Mercedes) I am hopeful that without the party modus at Mercedes RedBull will take lots of wins. Also Perez starting from the box ending so high fuels my hopes that we hopefully see a great season. It's a shame that Russel does not drive yet for Mercedes.
I think there is a serious problem with such inconsistent regulations! I think Hamilton gained a lot of time over the whole race... hard to say how much time he would have lost during the race. Anyhow, Max made a mistake to use this turn to overtake Hamilton. He should have waited till the main straight to get past him, but I guess he was worried that his tyres would have died till then. I also do not understand why they changed the regulations so many times during this weekend. Anyhow Max deserved to win this one, but same did Hamilton. He made just clear why he is a 7 time WDC. Max still got some learning to do I guess.... The slower car won this weekend, and both drivres deserved the win IMO. lets home for more consitent rules in the coming races.
