    997 Targa

Does anyone know if the Targa version will also be a part of the 997 linup in the future? because i;ve really heard both yes and no, since apperently it didnt sell that well in the past.. i was just wondering..
I personally hope they will make a 997 Turbo Targa

    Re: 997 Targa

I was told by my dealer that it will come out at the end of 06 or beginning of 07 and that this time it might include also a 4WD version.
Again just rumors but of the people I know, this guy is pretty realiable.

    Re: 997 Targa

I sure hope so. It might not have been a sales success, but the targa is not without it's charms. I enjoyed my brief time in my '02, only eight short months before I sold it. I much prefer it to the cab and, definitly, would be intersted in seeing a 997 targa in the line-up.

    Re: 997 Targa

There are already spy pics of the 997 targa around here...

    Re: 997 Targa

cool thats good news cause the targa is most definitely i very special and good looking car

    Re: 997 Targa

Same, I put a 100k miles on a 96 targa, you can drop the top at speed and put it up for phone call, I will take one if it comes out.

    Re: 997 Targa

I think if they are doing a 997 Targa they need to learn some lessons from the 993 and 996 Targas.

    1. The build quality needs to be improved. I had roof sticking open, rattling, rear glass refusing to shut and this was on a 996 which was based on the supposedly more rigid coupe.

    2. More important was the complete lack or rear visibility with the roof open. Open cars are supposed to have a greater sense of connection with the outside - a 996 Cab with the roof down has fabulous visibility and sense of being part of the scenery - I had none of that sensation with the 996 Targa. In fact I have more connection with the outside world in my 997 with the window and sunroof open.

    Re: 997 Targa

Since the glasroof Targas were introduced, the car has always been very different compared to the rest of the range. Some people hate it and others love it, but you rarely find opinions in between those two extremes.

Senator: looks like you'd be better off with a Cab, the Targa doesn't sound like being the right car for you. Personally, having owned a 996 Cab and driven a 996 Targa, I know I prefer the Targa for two reasons:
    1. I find it much more practical - the roof can be opened/closed whenerev I want and even with the roof closed, the amount of light coming into the cabin makes it feel open.
    2. I think the Targa looks very different to the standard Coupe or Cab shape. To me, it feels more exclusive and more beautiful.

I for one certainly hope they make a 997 Targa and I have no doubt that if they do, it will be a futher improvement. Just look how much the base Coupe has been improved from 996 to 997...

    Re: 997 Targa

As you say Elsie each to their own - but the cabrio can also be opened on the move these days (albeit not at 100mph on a freeway).

    Re: 997 Targa

Poor sales in the past, probably won't see one. It's extinct I'm afraid.

    Re: 997 Targa

It is not. It is definitely coming. Senra, your dealer did not BS you. The Targa will be available in Q4 2006 as 2WD and 4WD, and as standard and S.
FYI, Porsche did spend much more on the 997 Targa than on the 996 Targa, despite the poor sales of the current model.

How do I know? Don't ask

I for one will never return to a steeltop car. The luminosity is incredible even when the weather is poor. It is no real convertible, and not as stiff as the coupe, but it is the most versatile of the line-up. For those that use their 911 as a daily driver, the Targa is the way to go.
Needless to say, my next car will be a Targa 4S.

    Re: 997 Targa

Yes, it will probably come, but remember glass is heavy and it is at a high point in the car(which is not great for stability). Now if are going to drive your car at a leisure pace, it is not an issue, but forget about driving it hard.

    Re: 997 Targa

Its not the right car for regulat track-days, agreed. Apart from that, I pushed mine harder than most coupes will ever be driven and never had any problems. And btw, I feel more secure in a targa than driving fast in a cab.

I put the Andial M030 suspension on my 96 targa and held second fastest time at Willow Springs raceway for the 993 class. And I am not even that good. I never read the don't drive it on the track part, is in the owners manual? It does weigh more though, about 120 pounds if I recall so I guess the coupe should beat it.
